I cannot say enough wonderful things about Cheryl and the support she provided throughout my pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience. From the beginning, Cheryl and I connected so well, and I immediately felt comfortable with her. As a first-time mom, that was so important to me. I was in a new city, delivering at a new hospital, and trusting a care team I had never worked with before, so having someone in my corner who I genuinely trusted made such a difference.
One of the things I appreciated most was how much Cheryl prepared both my husband and I before I went into labor. She helped us create our birth plan, taught us different exercises, positions, and circuits I could use to prepare for labor and during labor, and most importantly, taught us how to advocate for ourselves and communicate what I wanted during my birth experience. That preparation gave us so much more confidence going into the hospital.
Her support continued immediately after I gave birth. Cheryl helped me navigate those first moments of postpartum, including helping my baby latch for breastfeeding, which meant so much to me as a first-time mom. She made sure I felt supported, comfortable, and cared for during such a new and vulnerable moment.
What makes Cheryl even more amazing is that her care didn’t stop after I gave birth. Five months postpartum, she STILL checks in, not only to see how I’m doing and adjusting to motherhood, but also to ask about my baby and my husband. She remembers our names, asks about each of us, and genuinely cares about how we’re doing as a family. She has also made it a priority to hear and understand my experience as a first-time Black mother, which has been incredibly meaningful to me. Her support has never felt like simply providing a service and moving on once the baby was born. The connection we built is genuine, and it’s clear that Cheryl truly cares about the mother, the baby, and the family as a whole.
I’m so grateful that Cheryl was part of such an important chapter in our lives. She made me feel heard, prepared, cared for, and supported during one of the biggest transitions of my life. If you’re looking for a doula who is knowledgeable and compassionate but also someone who will genuinely get to know you and care about your family beyond your delivery day, I HIGHLY recommend Cheryl. ❤️

Honestly, Cheryl made all the difference in my birth experience. Since my husband had to stay home with our older children, she was the only one by my side at the hospital—but I truly couldn't have asked for a better support person. When I got pregnant with baby #3 I knew immediately I didn’t want a repeat of my last births. I searched for midwives, doulas, and birth centers and was almost convinced I will have a home birth to avoid going to the hospital. I found Doula Cheryl almost at the last minute through my insurance, and we clicked right away. I met Cheryl Singletary in 2008 when I was pregnant with my first child. At the time, she worked at a local daycare and I was looking for support after the birth. We spent a few months getting to know each other, and when it was time for me to deliver, Cheryl stepped in like no one else could have.
After my son was born, I faced unexpected heart complications that led to heart failure. I had to remain in the hospital for two weeks, while my newborn was discharged. Cheryl, only 22 at the time, stayed in my home and cared for my newborn around the clock. She even traveled back and forth to the hospital to bring my breast milk to my baby. Her selflessness, dedication, and compassion during that time changed my life forever. My family is indebted to her in a way words can barely express.
Now, 16 years later, Cheryl and my oldest son are as close as ever. She also supported me through the birth of my second child, offering comfort, massaging my hands, feet, and back, and guiding me with the calm strength of someone born to do this work. That son is now 14, and we often say: Cheryl has always been a doula — long before she even knew what one was.
She’s not just a friend of the family. She is family. Her care, love, and natural ability to show up in people’s most vulnerable moments is a rare and beautiful gift that I would forever cherish.

I had the incredible struck of luck meeting Doula Cheryl the very day I delivered my baby at Hoboken Hospital. We had never met before, but from the moment she entered the room, she felt like an angel sent straight to me. I was soooo overwhelmed—my emotions were all over the place, my blood pressure kept spiking, and I was experiencing intense anxiety, especially due to interactions with an on-call OB. Cheryl immediately grounded me. She had this calm, even-toned, and gentle way of speaking that soothed my nerves and helped me breathe again. Even though she was there as part of her certification observations, she showed up with the confidence, care, and intuition of someone who was clearly born to be a doula. When my baby was born in distress, Cheryl was right there—hands-on, attentive, and fully present, making sure both my baby and I were okay. She didn’t just support me; she also made sure my husband felt seen and included every step of the way. My only regret is that I didn’t find her sooner in my pregnancy. Her presence was truly a gift, and I can’t say enough about how impactful she was in such a short amount of time. I would recommend Cheryl to any family a million times over.
