We hired Chris Scarlett for the birth of our 7th baby. We were returning to the hospital after home births and I wanted to make sure there was someone who could advocate for my desires in a hospital setting. Chris was everything we could hope for and MORE! She is encyclopedic in her knowledge of birth, breastfeeding, hospital policy, and postpartum health (she is also a postpartum doula). I felt so confident asking her to help educate me on any topic. She came fully prepared to show me all the options available for a wide variety of birth plans. I felt totally free to develop my own birth plan and that she would advocate for my desires. She helped me as my due date approached know what kind of exercises and movements could help get my baby in position and provide relief from undesirable pregnancy symptoms. She helped keep me calm and focused on my desires for this birth when I went 9 days overdue! When I was in active labor, she came to my home and helped me get dressed, pack the car, time contractions etc. Once in the hospital, I was already in transition and almost non-verbal. Chris knew exactly what to do (parking, check-in, making the attending aware of my birth plan, preparing the birth room, preparing the hospital's stool, ball, CUB, bathtub). She is an incredibly clear communicator - firm, but respectful to hospital staff. She was with me and my husband in every contraction, letting him know how he could help me. She suggested position changes, made sure I had adequate hydration and nutrients. Once the baby was delivered, she helped protect my “Golden Hour” based on my desires, helped establish breastfeeding, get clean and changed, and stayed until we were settled in the recovery room. We both recommend her 100%!!!

We had such a wonderful experience working with Christine, and I truly don’t think we would have accomplished the birth we wanted without her!From the beginning, I knew I wanted a natural birth, but I was very nervous that I wouldn’t be able to do it. Her experience, especially having had several VBACs herself, was so encouraging and helped me feel confident that my body was capable. She prepared us so well with classes, workbooks, and resources, which made me feel much less anxious going into labor.One of the things I appreciated most was how knowledgeable she was about pregnancy and birth while always allowing us to make our own decisions. She would share the facts and sometimes her opinion, but never in a biased or pushy way. She respected our values and made me feel empowered and confident in our choices. Having a Christian doula was also very important to us, and it meant so much to have someone whose values aligned with ours.My labor ended up being 31 hours, and she was incredibly calm, level-headed, and reassuring throughout. Around 25 hours in, I was questioning everything and asked if I should go to the hospital for an epidural. She gently reminded me of my goals, reassured me that I was safe, and encouraged me to keep going. She helped us feel confident that everything was normal and healthy, allowing us to stay home until we were ready. We arrived at the hospital fully dilated and ready to push!She was also an amazing support for my husband. When he needed to eat or use the bathroom, she stepped in without hesitation and supported me through contractions. Even postpartum, she continued checking in and genuinely cared about how I was doing. Breastfeeding unfortunately did not go well for me, but she continued reaching out and asking how she could help. She is calm, knowledgeable, trustworthy, and compassionate. We are so grateful we chose her and would recommend her!

Christine is very knowledgeable and supportive! She has lots of resources and tools to help cope with contractions. I birthed in the hospital and she brought Battery operated candles and made the bathroom dim and feel intimate and relaxed. Her Oil diffuser was also a nice touch. We hired Chris for our second baby. I did close to zero preparation for my first birth, and I ended up doing whatever the hospital staff suggested. It turned into a pretty traumatic birth experience for myself and my husband. We knew we wanted our second birth to be different. I had heard several great testimonials from friends who had hired Chris as their doula, and we are so happy we hired her ourselves. Chris supported us through switching providers and hospitals more than halfway through the pregnancy, provided countless resources on how to prepare my mind and body for a natural hospital birth, and was a huge advocate during the birth process itself. Although my birth did not turn out the way I had hoped for, the process of getting there was a million times better than my first experience. Chris was also a huge support during a very challenging postpartum period, gave us contacts for multiple IBCLCs, and checked in on us every now and then to make sure we had the resources and support we needed. Christine was a great resource for me during my pregnancy. She gave me endless resources to help me prepare for a natural birth. When my water unexpectedly broke at 35 weeks, she answered the phone at midnight when we were on our way to the hospital and helped talk us through options and potential situations we might come across and made herself fully available. I ended up having an extremely fast labor before Chris got there (no fault of hers, I gave birth before the time we spoke about her coming) but Chris stayed with me extra time during postpartum care and when my baby had to go to the NICU. She went out and got my baby premie clothes and was continually following up until we were home and our baby got discharged. Even though our plans were very different from what we were expecting, Chris adjusted and helped us immensely! She is filled with so much knowledge of pregnancy, birth and postpartum care!

This was the second time we hired Chris as a birth doula, and I honestly can’t imagine being pregnant or having a baby without her there! Throughout pregnancy, she offers vast knowledge and many resources, ranging from nutrition and exercise to weening an older child to sleep strategies, and everything in between! Labor went so smoothly and quickly this time around that Chris’s biggest role that day was taking care of us in the little things-putting essential oil in my bath water, making sure my husband had snacks, providing privacy when we wanted it, making me tea after our son was born, and helping me to be as comfortable as possible. She was especially helpful with early breastfeeding, even though everyone else told me I was an experienced mom and knew what I was doing. We were so thrilled to have Chris join our birth team from the moment we spoke on the phone, and even moreso with each visit we had with her! I was so appreciative of the materials and classes she provided along with the expectation to complete them. Chris was picked as our back-up doula since our’s was going to be out of town for 2 days near my due date. She took the time to come meet my husband and I when I was 36 weeks pregnant on the off chance we’d need her at our birth. From that meeting on she was constantly there to support me, learning my birth plan thoroughly and answering all of my questions.
I ended up needing an induction due to health concerns while our doula was out of town. From the second I told her I was being induced, she explained every choice I had and made sure I understood my options. She continuously checked-in throughout the early induction and labor process and was ready to be at the hospital as soon as we were ready making sure I was comfortable.

Chris(tine) was a wonderful doula! She was very informative and thorough, and she helped to prepare me for what to expect with my first birth. I was induced for medical reasons so my delivery was a little complicated, but she was there every step of the way. I had a hospital birth and an epidural and was able to give birth vaginally which was amazing. She was caring, patient and a great advocate for me when some of the providers weren't necessarily paying attention to my birth plan. There are so many amazing things to say about Chris!
I had a beautiful home water birth. Every little thing counts during labor. She made sure I was calmly taken care of (and my husband, too) the second she walked into the door. She ensured i was eating and drinking to keep my energy up during labor.
During labor, she suggested different positions to help my body to its job. She also suggested I try to rest in my bed, which I appreciate, because me being able to relax helped the process move more quickly. She helped me stay calm during and after my transition period which was very important to me. And she said all the right things while I was pushing.
After labor she stayed and made sure we didn't need anything else before she left. She even loaded our dishwasher and did a load of laundry for us! She helped me find a good lactation consultant when I was having trouble with my daughter latching. She made sure I was set up with tons of resources (books/informational videos/personal connections) to help me while pregnant, during labor, AND postpartum. I coukd say a million great things about her truly!

Chris helped so much right off the bat with helpful resources like Built to Birth, Natural Hospital Birth, and more!! There is such an overwhelming amount of information + opinions in the world, so having someone give us helpful, natural, and easily digestible resources was a game changer.
My birth ended up being very quick!! I went into labor around midnight, called Chris at 4am, she arrived at my home at 6am, and we went to the hospital at 7am! She went ahead of us to get triage prepared (which was SO HELPFUL to just walk in and get going right away!!) I was 8cm when triage checked me, so we went right into the room.
We got into the room around 8:30 and once again Chris had prepared the way ahead of us and made sure the bath in my room had been filled before I got there! She took care of so many things behind the scenes so that I did not have to worry about them!
At 9:05 I started pushing and my son was born 14 minutes later at 9:19!
Chris was there every step of the way offering water, suggesting positions or relaxation techniques to speed up labor, and also knew when to be sneaky behind the scenes so that my husband and I could enjoy the process together.
She was also an incredible help directly after birth!! She helped me advocate for myself, she handled all the little things for me, she helped in my first few trips to the bathroom, she helped with breast feeding, and she never let us go hungry or thirsty.
We felt so loved and cared for. We also felt such a great calm in her presence knowing she had such extensive birth experience, knowing her great passion for natural and physiological birth, and knowing that nothing would be missed in the chaos because she had our backs through it all.

When I moved to the area, I was very hesitant about finding a new Doula. I had a Doula with my first two babies and loved her so much. I couldn't imagine a birth without her, but insert Chris. She is a wealth of knowledge and support! She shared papers, books, articles, and websites with so much information. I even learned a few new things as this was baby number three for us. She went above and beyond for us. She reached out to a midwife friend when I had a specific question I wanted answered quickly. The night our baby was born she recommended a local pizza place for take out and even went to pick it up for us that way my husband could stay with me and our baby. Every step of the way Chris advocated for the healthiest pregnancy and delivery possible. She reminded me of the pros and cons of each decision I would have to make. She worked with the nurses to help me have the delivery I desired. My postpartum visit with Chris was fantastic as well. She folded laundry, read books to my older children, and helped with any breastfeeding concerns I had. We hired Chris as a birth doula for our third child and had a great experience. My desire was to have as much of a natural birth as possible, and labor longer at home before going to the hospital. Chris helped us achieve this, and was a calm and reassuring presence throughout the labor. She had very helpful suggestions for different positions and things to try to help labor progress, especially when it became difficult for me. I also appreciated her support during my (very short!) time in the hospital before delivery. For me, she provided a good balance between being supportive and giving me space while in labor.

My husband and I used Chris as our doula this past winter when I had my first baby. I work in medicine so know more than most, but having Chris there with us provided that extra layer of comfort and knowledge. She helped me stay committed to my birth plan, and weigh the options when things weren’t going as planned, as they never do! Hiring Christine as our postpartum doula was the best decision we made surrounding our daughter’s birth. She is a wealth of knowledge, both professionally, but more importantly from a mom standpoint since she raised seven children of her own. Because of this combination of knowledge, she was able to give me the evidence-based answers, but also the “mom” answers so I could make my own decisions.
I had the goal to breastfeed but was having some trouble with latching and positioning, especially while feeding my daughter during the night. Chris helped me trouble shoot ways to achieve a better latch and taught me Laid Back and Side Lying holds. My 6 lb. 6 oz. daughter was weighing over birthweight by Day 8 following birth, so I knew Chris’ techniques were insuring she was feeding properly and getting nourished.
Chris also helped me organize my nursery. I had two showers and received some unnecessary items. She helped me downsize and keep practical items, but also know what to return, donate, etc. She made up a diapering/nursing caddy for our living room with things we needed throughout the day so I didn’t have to keep walking up and down the stairs. She also helped me and my husband organize a diaper bag each for our cars that was complete with a lot of items I would never have thought of like snacks, emergency $10, clothes, cream, etc.
Chris gave me a thorough lesson in babywearing the sling, Baby K’tan, and Ergobaby I own which can be super confusing if you’ve never done it before. I can’t wait for my baby to be bigger so I can wear them in public instead of getting my stroller out at every store!
She has a mothering presence and was great at reminding me to take vitamins, naps, and eat. She brought me water and made meals for me and my family so we could have more one on one time.
I would recommend Chris to any of my pregnant friends and hope to use her again in the future.
