I believe in sacredness of coming into parenthood and want to protect it, so that it can unfold in an undisturbed way, as much as possible, and this includes pregnancy, birth, and the ever-so- vulnerable postpartum period. I also believe that the birthing person is the only one who has the authority to make decisions about their body and their baby because I know that those decision will be the best ones for them at that given moment. This leaves no space for judgment; only support and respect.

I am a homebirth midwife located in East Los Angeles. My goal for my clients is for them to feel educated in the world of birth, empowered in their experience, and safe with me as their provider. I spent most of my young life in Guangzhou, China where my family cared for orphaned newborns. After high school I found a maternity clinic in the Philippines offering midwifery training and began my journey there. After completing an accelerated program, I moved to California and became licensed with the Medical Board of CA. My name is Sandra Luz Alvarado and I am a postpartum doula and a Newborn Care Specialist. I was born in El Salvador and came to California 35 years ago. I am a wife (I have been with my husband almost 30 years!) and a mother to 5 beautiful children, including my youngest, who is three years old. Before becoming a doula, I worked as a graphic designer, elder care provider, and nanny. Some years back I decided to become a postpartum doula.
