Denisse Mejia
About me
Hi, I’m Denisse Mejia, an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), mom of two girls, and founder of Texas Breastfeeding Center. My connection to lactation began long before it became my career—I grew up watching and learning from my mother, who was also a lactation consultant, and later experienced motherhood and breastfeeding for myself. Those experiences shaped the way I care for families today: with compassion, curiosity, and an understanding that feeding a baby is about so much more than simply getting a “good latch.” My philosophy is that families deserve evidence-based information without judgment or pressure. There is no one-size-fits-all version of breastfeeding, postpartum, or parenthood, so I meet parents where they are and help them make informed decisions that feel sustainable for their family. I’m especially passionate about creating a space where parents feel heard, respected, and confident asking questions—whether we’re working through breastfeeding, pumping, bottle feeding, oral function concerns, or simply figuring out what life with a new baby looks like. As a bilingual English- and Spanish-speaking IBCLC, I’m also deeply committed to making quality lactation care feel accessible and culturally responsive for the families I serve.

Denisse has been an incredible support throughout my breastfeeding journey with my baby girl. My baby was having a hard time latching, and she patiently helped us until she was feeding well. I also had a painful clogged milk duct, and she helped relieve it with massage and milk expression, which brought me immediate relief. Beyond breastfeeding, she was a huge source of emotional support during my postpartum period and always made me feel heard and encouraged. She helped me choose the correct flange size for my pump, explained how to use all the pump parts properly, and answered every question I had. She is extremely knowledgeable, caring, and always just a phone call away. Her home visits were so convenient, and she truly goes above and beyond for both mom and baby. I highly recommend her to every new mom looking for compassionate, expert lactation support.

I can’t say enough about the incredible support I received from my lactation nurse, Denise Mejia. When I was at my lowest, ready to give up on breastfeeding, Denise stood by me with compassion, encouragement, and unmatched knowledge. Her dedication gave me the strength to keep going, even when it felt impossible. She not only guided me through the challenges of nursing, but she also helped me navigate one of the most vulnerable times in my life — the postpartum stage. I truly don’t know how I would’ve gotten through it without her steady support. Denise is more than a nurse; she’s a lifeline for new moms, and I will forever be grateful to her. I’m now a walking Denise Mejia promoter — if you’re looking for someone who genuinely cares and will empower you with both heart and expertise, look no further. She’s a gift to any mom on this journey.

Denisse was such a blessing in a stressful time. I am a first time mom and was in a panic when I got home with my newborn and was having difficulty getting him to latch. She was able to see us very quickly at home. She had so much patience with me and my hungry screaming baby. She then helped me with my plan to return to work and my pumping schedule and provided education to myself and my MIL on bottle feeding and EBF baby. She helped me to get the correct flange size and I haven’t had any issues or discomfort since then. I could not recommend Texas Breastfeeding Center enough!

Denisse really took the time to explain everything I had concerns about and answer all of my questions. She even went the extra mile to provide me with a summary of what we discussed, noting important information, and created a care plan for success. I feel SO much more confident about my breastfeeding/pumping journey! Our consultation was the best thing I could’ve done and my only regret is not reaching out to her sooner.

Denisse was extremely knowledgeable and professional! I’m so glad I did a prenatal visit bc it really boosted my confidence and set a foundation that I was able to build on once my son was born. 10/10 recommend!!
