Hello loves! I'm Ariel, a certified birth doula, herbal medic and birth photographer. I stumbled into the role of birth attendant in my early twenties by being the peace bringer and atmosphere regulator to all my girlfriends who were having babies. I gave birth to my first just a month after turning 17 and had the wonderful favor of a peaceful birth attendant who did more than rock my hips during labor, she strengthened my resolve and spoke to my body directly, encouraging through the rough parts and tuned my heart to find joy even in the pain. Ever since then I've found myself cultivating a knowledge set that would help women through the many trials of pregnancy, labor and post partum. This is more than a job for me, this is a calling. And every woman who has entered my care becomes a life long sister in birth.

I have been working in the perinatal support field since July 2020 as a breastfeeding peer counselor and then as a birth doula. My own experiences with birth and breastfeeding led me to birth work—I was inspired to support others the way I had been supported. Birth and parenthood has a way of helping us discover strengths we didn't know we had. Greetings, I’m Theodora! I’m a first generation Ghanaian-American postpartum doula serving families in Washington, DC and parts of Northern Virginia. I trained as a full-spectrum doula and started my doula practice in Brooklyn, NYC in 2018. Since then I have supported birthing and postpartum women, people, and their families on their journeys in Richmond, Virginia and now in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area. Anything from preparing yummy snacks or meals for you or helping fold laundry, to being someone to lean on when you’re lacking in confidence or need to off-load, to looking after your baby or older sibling while you have some time to rest. I am also a qualified breastfeeding counsellor and holistic sleep coach, skills which enhance my postnatal work greatly. I also speak fluent Spanish and have a high level of French and German. When I’m not working, I relish being with my husband and two children, indoors and out, exploring and discovering new places, camping, youth hostelling and having a merry time.

I'm a mother of four amazing daughters, and have been working as a full time birth and postpartum doula since 2016. As a doula I believe education and support, and love helping all parents meet their goals and gain the confidence they need for the journey ahead. I support all types of births and have a beautiful inter professional relationship with doctors, nurses and midwives. I have working in all major hospitals in the GTA, as well as the Toronto Birth Centre and the Alongside Midwifery Unit at Markham Stouffville Hospital. I am a Doula, Usui Holy Fire® II Reiki Practitioner, and a Certifying Reflexologist with a background as a Personal Support Worker, and Business Administrative Graduate from Loyalist College. I have a true passion for supporting others in any way I can with empathy, love, and care. 6 years ago, a little boy came into my life in a way I did not expect. I had very little support, nobody took the time to be there and educate me properly despite my efforts to ask questions about labour and birth. I really felt alone in the experience… When the time came to give birth the OBGYN I had was in the hospital long enough to break my water and then was “off for the night”. I ended up with some complete stranger, who was rude, yelled at me, and impatient. He didn’t listen to me, and made me feel very uncomfortable! My son ended up coming out very quickly due to receiving an unnecessary episiotomy (I found this out at my 6 week post birth checkup). This resulted in my son not having mucus squeezed out of his lungs and having issues breathing on his own, he had low APGAR scores and was rushed to the NICU with very little communication from the nurses or the doctor while they stitched me up. The pain I had been feeling escalated as I had no baby, no support and a doctor who had no regards for me as a human… He would get frustrated with me every time I flinched involuntarily and tell me to relax while he stitched me up- he did not believe I could feel it. My epidural had failed with my son. I felt everything. The next couple of days in the hospital were a blur.. I felt a little helpless as I dealt with being sore… nobody had the time to show me how to breastfeed (which failed in epic proportions)… nothing was going right. I had all these plans while pregnant… and none of them were working out, nothing I hoped for was happening. This was the start of postpartum depression With my youngest, I knew better and had learned so much along the way from my personal experience. I was wiser, I knew what to ask and how to advocate. I have an incredible drive to be there for others, this is such a crucial time in your life. Nobody should have to feel alone. This is why I have also become an Evidence Based Birth Professional Member. All I needed was support. This is my why. I want to support YOU, no matter the way you need.
