Marissa Nelson

Hello, my name is Marissa and I'm honored to meet you. I am fascinated by the innate, primitive, and beautiful ability of our bodies to create new life. A hodgepodge of things led me to becoming a certified birth doula and yoga instructor. The two most influential being the births of my own babes. Those close to me would say I have a unique ability to calm a situation, hold a positive space, and intuitively allow things to be. These qualities made sense as a Doula. Additionally, yoga is a big part of my life (a lifestyle, I'd say...) and was immensely helpful through my pregnancies. That's why I offer a holistic approach with prenatal yoga to prepare your mind/body/spirit for an optimal birth. As an LGBTQIA+ doula, I understand that families can be built in many different ways. All that matters is that when a family is created, it happens on a foundation of love, support, trust, and safety. For birthing people, my intention is to support you tenaciously in having the most empowering, transformative, and safe birthing experience as possible. We are not meant to birth alone. As human beings bringing new human beings into the world, it is pivotal to feel affirmed and validated during our most vulnerable and authentic moments. I want you to look back on your birth experience and feel triumphant! No matter what you’ve been through in the past, or what you are envisioning currently, I am here to 100% support your goals and help them come to fruition. For those not birthing and creating a family in a different way, my intention is to support you through all aspects of your unique experience; Planning, transitioning, bringing baby home, etc. I can offer resources and referrals for all of your family's needs. More importantly I can provide Empathy, Compassion, and Presence.

We hired Marissa to be our birth doula and we couldn't be happier with that choice. She visited us couple of times before the due date and she was with us throughout labor and delivery and also saw us a couple of times after the birth of our son. Having her with us in the delivery room was very helpful as she coached me through the contractions consistently. She also supported and cheered us on during difficult times and helped us make the right choices for our labor and delivery. She is really sweet and we connected with her instantly since day 1. We highly recommend her.

Hey there, I’m Carly, the heart and hands behind Sol Shine Doula Services. My path to birth work started with my own first birth experience—long, unsupported, and ending in a home birth transfer. I didn’t even know doulas existed then, but I know now how transformative the right support can be. Named after my first child’s middle name, Sol Shine was born from a deep desire to provide families with the warmth, knowledge, and care I once wished for. Now, I dedicate my work to ensuring no birthing person feels alone in their journey.

We found Carly very last minute, and I was honestly on the fence about whether or not I wanted to hire a doula. But after meeting with her, we instantly felt comfortable and knew she was the right fit. She’s kind, knowledgeable, and incredibly thoughtful in her approach. Carly took the time to ask important questions and was sensitive to both past trauma and my neurodivergence, which made me feel seen and supported right from the start. Having her available throughout the tail end of my pregnancy to answer questions was invaluable. I wish we would have found her sooner so I could have benefited from her support and guidance for more of my pregnancy. When it came time for the birth of our first child, I can’t imagine having done it without her. She helped create the calm, peaceful environment I had hoped for and supported both my husband and me as we navigated the hospital experience. During labor, she was there for my husband as much as she was for me—gently guiding him on how best to support me and offering him reassurance, too. Carly made the entire experience feel grounded, warm, and empowering. We’re so grateful we had her by our side.

Stephanie brings it! She makes the entire pregnancy, birth & postpartum experience so special and sacred. She is a master ceremonialist and always, I mean always, has flowers and magical honey. You will be so doted upon: from your first visit together; to your mother blessing ceremony; all the birth waves; to mother roasting, belly wraps, and yummy nourishing broths; to an intuitive placental reading; to expert breastfeeding support; to the final bittersweet closing ceremony. She will make your birth space cavelike and sparkly with fairy lights, candles, affirmations, a wonderful fan, and flowers. She will guide you through the waves and challenges, keeping you grounded and cracking jokes for levity. She's also a mama so she deeply understands what her clients are going through. All I can say is Dou-la-la!

Ellen’s background in psychology, behavioral therapy, and nannying led her to the world of birthwork. While she worked closely with several families navigating the postpartum period, she developed a passion for learning all about birth and felt inspired to find ways to better support people during this time. She completed her training through Peaceful Birth Company. Ellen has a soft-spoken, intuitive nature and can be a strong advocate when needed. She shows up with authenticity to support her clients. Ellen has a deep appreciation for the practice of yoga. She teaches Prenatal, Postnatal and Baby-and-Me yoga classes at Peaceful Birth Company and absolutely loves it! She finds so much fulfillment from seeing parents bond with their babies, nurturing birthing people by supporting their healing (physical, mental and emotional), and creating a safe space in her classes for people to find community and bond over shared experiences. Ellen enjoys helping clients connect more deeply with their intuition by exploring meditation and breathwork. In her birthwork and yoga classes, she strives to center trauma-informed care. Ellen is committed to providing unbiased support for her clients and empowering them in their own decisions for their births. Navigating birth and all of its complexities takes a village and everyone has the right to feel supported, safe and empowered through these experiences. She strongly believes working towards birth justice is of utmost importance, and is honored by every person who invites her into their birthing space. She is beyond grateful to be a part of this work. Ellen can often be found playing soccer, hiking or crocheting. She’s worked as a wildland firefighter and lifeguard, and is happiest when she’s outside or in water. She loves to sit somewhere cozy with a cup of coffee and a good book and she takes so much pleasure in decorating spaces, making them feel inviting and homey.

Having Ellen by our side throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum was such a gift. The time we spent preparing for birth with Ellen was incredibly helpful and supportive, leaving us feeling more grounded, informed, and empowered. During the birth itself, her calm, compassionate presence and unwavering advocacy allowed us to feel deeply cared for and supported, while also allowing my partner to be more present in the experience. It is an experience I will forever hold with so much reverence and gratitude. Ellen continued to be such a gift in the postpartum period, offering care and support during a tender and transformative time. We are so grateful for Ellen and the role she played in welcoming our son into the world and supporting our family as we began this new transformative life chapter.

Making the investment to have supported Postpartum care, especially from an Ayurvedic perspective was not just exactly what I had wished for, but I cannot FATHOM a greater gift for the health of our newborn child. I felt like a peaceful, supported, and loved Momma through the whole process which truly allowed me to be the most present with our newborn. Emily is an actual angel on earth. I only wish that every single birthing person had this type of postpartum support. Our little one is now 5 months old and I believe WHOLE-HEARTEDLY that his gentle, calm, and happy disposition is a result of the care and safety that I felt postpartum which allowed me to be fully present with him. Emily worked diligently and silently doing all of the big and little things that afforded us as a new family the maximum amount of time together to just marinate in our little love bubble. I didn't have to think (EVER) about what I was going to eat, or if I had hydrated enough, about eating the right things etc. Not only was my belly nourished, but she helped with postpartum massage, belly wrapping, provided a listening ear, and left me with so many helpful herbs, tinctures, and magical Ayurvedic potions. I am forever grateful for my time spent with Emily who I am sure will now be a lifelong friend. Thank you Emily! Infinitely! Your gift is something undeniable. We are FOREVER grateful. Kendall was an absolute god-send during our pregnancy and birth journey. As first time parents, we felt SO lost starting our pregnancy journey. The lack of dedicated support in the system was so apparent right away, and we began our search to find the compassion , emotional support and care we needed , esp for me as a first time mom! Our first discussion with Kendall made us feel so comfortable and like there was such a personal connection , Kendall was so knowledgeable and so committed to ensuring that I would have the support I needed thru every step of my pregnancy and post-partum. She was someone that I immediately knew I could trust and be comfortable around and want her there with me every step of the way, including during my delivery. Kendall provided support and assistance throughout my pregnancy beyond what I could have ever imagined. As someone who had an extremely difficult pregnancy with several hospitalizations, Kendall was there for our family every step of the way, helping us find new care when things with our existing provider weren’t going well, being by our side with several hospital stays and going out on a limb to be a vocal advocate for what was always best for me and our baby. Kendall went above and beyond after so many unexpected turns in our birth story, spent dedicated time visiting our baby in the NiCU at a moments notice when we delivered prematurely in an emergency situation, and was constantly there as a sounding board, resource , and 24-7 support system for our entire family. We have never felt so comfortable being open and honest with someone as we were with Kendall!! She is so passionate about her work, her families and the moms in her care, and it shows!! Whether we had a perfect pregnancy or one filled with the challenges and scares our family faced, We can’t imagine doing it or going through the journey without Kendall. You never know what resources you may need until you need them, and Kendall was there with us every step of the way. She will forever be a part of our family and our story, and we will be forever grateful for her. -The Schafferer’s: Lindsey , Marco and Marcel (our 35 week angel babe!)
