The cost of a midwife in Greenville, SC can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Midwife

Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) who work in hospital settings may have different pricing than Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) who attend home births or birth center deliveries.

  • Birth Setting

Hospital births with a midwife typically cost less out-of-pocket when covered by insurance, while home births and birth center deliveries may have different fee structures.

  • Scope of Services

Many midwives offer comprehensive packages that include prenatal visits, labor and delivery support, and postpartum care, which can affect the overall cost.

  • Insurance Coverage

Whether insurance will cover the cost of a midwife in Greenville, SC, depends on your specific insurance plan and the midwife's credentials. Many insurance plans provide coverage for certified nurse-midwives (CNMs), as they are licensed healthcare providers, but coverage for certified professional midwives (CPMs) or lay midwives may vary. Additionally, some plans may cover midwifery services provided in hospitals, birth centers, or home births, while others may not. It's important to contact your insurance company directly to confirm what is covered under your plan, including any in-network requirements, copayments, or deductibles.

  • Experience and Specialization

Midwives with extensive experience, additional certifications, or specializations such as VBAC support or water birth may charge higher rates.

  • Geographic Location

Midwifery costs can vary based on the cost of living and demand for midwifery services in your specific area.

When considering hiring a midwife in Greenville, SC, it's advisable to research and interview several midwives to find one who aligns with your birth plan, preferences, and budget. During consultations, you can discuss their specific services, insurance acceptance, and pricing structure to ensure you have a clear understanding of what is included and the associated costs.

I'm Ava; a very passionate birth and postpartum doula devoted to supporting women who desire a calm, instinctive, and physiological birth experience. My love for birth began early in life when I witnessed my own mother bring two of my younger brothers into the world through 2 peaceful homebirths. Watching the strength, intuition, and beauty of those moments deeply shaped my belief that birth is not something to fear, but something to trust. My philosophy centers on honoring the body's natural design for birth- not the societally pushed or man-created model of birth that often leads women to doubt their own instinct. I believe that birth "works" best when it is protected, undisturbed, and guided by a mother's intuition. When women are supported with evidence-based information, true informed consent, and a peaceful environment, their bodies are capable of incredible things. my approach prioritizes physiologic birth, instinctive movement, and protecting the natural hormone flow that supports labor, bonding, and postpartum recovery. I especially love supporting families who are drawn to physiological birth, low- intervention options, and creating a birth environment that feels peaceful and intentional. Whether you're planning a homebirth or simply hoping for a more natural and supported experience, I am here to walk alongside you with steady support, evidence-based information, and wholehearted encouragement.

5/5 ⭐️ Ava was an amazing doula to have! She is so sweet and compassionate and responsive to both mother’s and father’s needs during labor and delivery! She helped us with learning and getting into different laboring positions, keeping track of minutes, various calming techniques (i.e. aroma therapy, hydrotherapy, etc.), use of different tools (i.e. birthing comb, peanut ball, etc.), and timing our departure for the birthing center just right! She was so encouraging during my labor and delivery and incredibly supportive postpartum too with a gift basket, foot massage, and demonstration of how to wrap a belly binder. I had the best experience with her and will definitely be reaching out again in the future! Highly recommend!

Hi, I'm Suzanne Nicklas! I'm a Registered Nurse, IBCLC, Doula and Health Coach based in Greenville, SC. As a nurse, my passion has been working with new parents and infants. I have worked with hundreds of families in my fifteen years as a lactation consultant and doula. I love educating families prior to the birth of their baby and particularly enjoy the postpartum period. As the mother of four, my own birth experiences led me to this work. I offer 24/7 on call Lactation "office hours" to assist families at any time of day or night. My passion for wellness started many years ago when I took the first of many health coach trainings, the first being through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. I began health coaching in 2010 and since then my practice has transformed and grown in many ways. As I have grown as a person, so has my work. Along the way I have picked up skills based on my own personal interests and broadened my education and am able to share those with both my lactation and doula clients as well as my coaching clients. Some of these training include yoga, aromatherapy and reiki. It is my love of combining conventional and alternative philosophies of care that led me to Ayurveda and Yoga. My trainings have enabled me to blend the wisdom of Eastern medicine into our Western way of living to create lifestyle transformations that work in our busy day to day lives. All of my services are offered both virtually and in person. Lastly but most importantly, as a partner and mother of four amazing humans, I bring both personal experience and professional care to the families I serve. I am honored that you have chosen to visit my site and I look forward to working together.

Karen is absolutely amazing - very knowledgeable, and so kind and compassionate. I highly recommend her! She gave me trust: trust in myself and also trust in her - I knew I was in good hands - which are both so important in the process of giving life. Her support was excellent, from start to finish, and also on all levels, whether physical, mental or emotional. She made sure I was at my best for the birth, as we were able to detect and fix imbalances during the pregnancy. I really appreciated how she blends modern medicine with alternative and natural remedies, and also all the recommendations of books and resources she provided to educate myself. All the postpartum support was perfect too, she actively followed up on my baby's and my own health and well-being. I feel like my words are not enough to describe how grateful I am that she was my midwife. Thank you for everything, Karen!

I cannot recommend Doula Lacey more highly! I met Lacey around the 15 week mark of my pregnancy with my sweet little girl. We clicked and after speaking with my husband we decided to move forward with her. And thank goodness we did, because just 10 weeks later my water broke preterm and my girl made her entrance into the world at 25 weeks 5 days. Lacey was quick to respond throughout the week as I was experiencing symptoms of early rupture, when I was admitted to the hospital, and when I very quickly and surprisingly gave birth. She provided excellent support and insight on what the hospital process would entail for my husband and I who had planned to have our daughter in a birth center and were now working with providers we did not know in a space we wouldn’t have chosen. She was quick to travel & get to the hospital the week I was admitted as things changed every hour. And she has continued to provide incredible support for us both postpartum as we have begun our journey into NICU parenthood. Having a doula was something I always prioritized, and having such an unpredictable and scary birth experience made that even more clear. And Lacey was right by my side either physically or verbally every step of the way. We are so thankful for her & she is such a special part of our daughter’s story.
