What's the Cost of Hiring a Midwife in Hawthorne, CA?

The cost of a midwife in Hawthorne, CA, can vary depending on the services provided, experience, and whether the birth takes place at home, a birth center, or a hospital. On average, midwife services in California can range from $3,000 to $7,000 for prenatal, labor, and postpartum care for home or birth center births. Some insurance plans may cover part of the cost, so it's important to check with your provider. For hospital births, midwife services may be included in overall hospital fees, depending on the arrangement. It's best to contact local midwives or birthing centers in Hawthorne for accurate pricing.

The cost of a midwife in Hawthorne, CA can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Midwife

Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) who work in hospital settings may have different pricing than Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) who attend home births or birth center deliveries.

  • Birth Setting

Hospital births with a midwife typically cost less out-of-pocket when covered by insurance, while home births and birth center deliveries may have different fee structures.

  • Scope of Services

Many midwives offer comprehensive packages that include prenatal visits, labor and delivery support, and postpartum care, which can affect the overall cost.

  • Insurance Coverage

Whether insurance will cover the cost of a midwife in Hawthorne, CA, depends on your specific insurance plan and its maternity care benefits. Many health insurance plans, especially those compliant with the Affordable Care Act, cover midwifery services if the midwife is licensed and in-network. Coverage may also depend on whether the care is provided in a hospital, birthing center, or at home. To confirm, review your policy details or contact your insurance provider to check if midwifery services are covered and if prior authorization is required.

  • Experience and Specialization

Midwives with extensive experience, additional certifications, or specializations such as VBAC support or water birth may charge higher rates.

  • Geographic Location

Midwifery costs can vary based on the cost of living and demand for midwifery services in your specific area.

When considering hiring a midwife in Hawthorne, CA, it's advisable to research and interview several midwives to find one who aligns with your birth plan, preferences, and budget. During consultations, you can discuss their specific services, insurance acceptance, and pricing structure to ensure you have a clear understanding of what is included and the associated costs.

Birth & Postpartum Doula I have been supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum since long before I had the language for it formally serving as a doula since 2021, but showing up for birthing people in my community for years before that. Birth work found me through my own pregnancies (c-section) unmedicated V back and unmedicated water birth vbac mama my background in education. As a former preschool and kindergarten teacher, I’ve always been drawn to caring for the whole child and family. Each of my births deepened my commitment to this work, and I’m passionate about supporting women who look like me in spaces where we are often the only ones. I’m a super big supporter of Vbacs They are my favorite. I currently work with Kindred Space LA, Frontline Doulas, and the Irth App, supporting families through birth, postpartum, belly binding, and babywearing. An avid breastfeeder myself nursing each of my children for 3 years I bring lived experience and practical support to feeding journeys. Aysha SHOWED UP for me! I’m honestly not sure how my birth would have gone without her support! We laughed. We walked. We squatted. We twerked. I cried. She held me. Reminded me that i was capable. Postpartum was rough this go round and she was there, prepping meals, cleaning, teaching my toddler essential life skills, making sure she saw me drinking my water and taking my vitamins. She feels like a best friend I’ve known for many years. I’m so grateful and i can’t say it enough💗

Working with Curtrelle made my birthing experience so much better than I could’ve imagined. As a first time mom, I was overwhelmed with the amount of information I was receiving from doctors, relatives and my social media. Curtrelle was instrumental in keeping both my partner and I calm, informed, and hopeful throughout the entire birthing process. Her techniques, presence and overall explanation of the process beforehand during and after were incredibly helpful for two new parents who felt lost in a sea of information. We truly feel she was the reason we had such a great birthing experience and we loved her demeanor not just with us, but with the people we decided to include in the process as well. I highly recommend anyone looking for a doula that is informed, calming, reassuring, and overall great person to work with Curtrelle.

Donna Moragne-Hanson

4 years of experience

Hello Everyone! My name is Donna Moragne-Hanson and I am a licensed midwife in Los Angeles, CA. I provide well-woman, pre-conception, prenatal/postpartum care, doula care, childbirth education and lactation support from the privacy of my in-home birthing studio where you & your family will be provided with everything you need for a safe, comfortable and peaceful birth. You will also receive 24 Golden Hours of maternal postpartum & newborn postpartum care as you receive 3 homemade meals created to restore, center and balance your body before journeying home with your new babe. In addition I offer Closing of the Bones ceremonial care, yoni steams, herbal baths, as well as Postpartum Ala-carte services. For me, establishing trust with my client is the most important and fundamental and important. My practice is built on nurturing trust and learning to let go of the things we allow to interfere with trust. I want to encourage trusting in yourself; trusting in your body (and the natural process of giving birth); trusting in your baby (and their own divinely written birth story); trusting in humanity (and the world your baby is born into) and trusting in our partnership; as client and midwife. I believe, when a woman is heard, she is seen; when she is seen, she has a voice; and as her midwife I am compelled to encourage her to honor that voice; her voice. In this way I believe I am blessed with an opportunity to fulfill my role as supporter, facilitator, educator and client advocate; the ultimate calling of a midwife. For me, describing the process of birth is like trying to describe a miracle; and walking with a woman as she becomes a mother is even more profound…I am beyond words. Donna, LM, CPM

Courtney Falcon

My journey as a labor doula began in 2021, driven by a deep passion for supporting families during one of life’s most transformative moments. With a strong foundation in newborn and infant care since 2015, I feel truly honored to walk alongside parents as they welcome their little ones into the world. My background includes working as a Floortime therapist for children with ASD, serving as an after-school program director, and capturing magical memories as a photographer at Disneyland. Yet, nothing compares to the profound joy of hearing a baby's heartbeat on a monitor and then witnessing their first cries as they enter the world. I am committed to continuous learning and aspire to expand my expertise as a postpartum doula and grief/death doula, ensuring I can provide compassionate care at every stage of the journey.

Courtney Falcon was our back up doula for our second child, but it ended up being a great experience and possibly even kismet. We were very lucky to have someone take charge in a warm and loving manner. We felt supported every step of the way. She even stayed many late hours after the birth to help make sure our son was stable and didn't have to go to the NICU. Without her diligence, our child wouldn't have been able to avoid the NICU- she was a godsend. She's extremely knowledgeable, and is always looking to expand her learning. She was always providing us with more resources than we even knew we needed, and not just about babies, but about child/toddler behavior as well. Courtney is also excellent with babies and children, and provided some child care to our family during our times of need. With her previous background working with kids, we felt our kids were in the best of hands. We cannot recommend Courtney Falcon enough to be your doula, please book her today!

Harriet Fraser

Harriet Fraser

I have always been fascinated and humbled by the birthing process since working at a Maternity Hospital in Nepal many years ago, when I was a medical student in the UK. It revealed to me how essential compassionate support is during this rite of passage. My passion for women's health and childbirth has never waned, and I come with a deep knowledge of the process from working as a family doctor in the UK, then birthing and bringing up my own three children here in the US. I am privileged to work as a birth doula, an advocate in this space, supporting with empathy and calm, helping women to trust their bodies and to achieve a positive birth experience. I help women to know their own body and its amazing capabilities, to trust it, and, in doing so, to own their birth.

We cannot recommend Harriet highly enough as a doula. From the very beginning, she went above and beyond — visiting our home multiple times before my due date to teach us contraction techniques and make sure we felt prepared.  When early labor began, Harriet was an incredible calming presence over the phone, talking me through my initial contractions and wisely advising us to stay home much longer than we would have on our own. At the hospital, Harriet created a soothing environment (complete with candles!), kept me focused and breathing through contractions before my epidural, and made sure my husband felt involved and useful every step of the way. When I hit a wall during pushing, Harriet kept me grounded and calm — I honestly don't know how I would have gotten through that stretch without her. Harriet visited us at home afterward to debrief the birth, process the experience together, and answer all the questions that come flooding in once you're home with a newborn. Harriet is knowledgeable, warm, intuitive, and dedicated to her clients. We are so grateful she was part of welcoming our baby into the world.
