My father was born in Venezuela and mother, on the Alabama Coushatta reservation near Livingston. I grew up in a large family amongst 6 siblings who taught me how important it is to take into account a plurality of perspectives and experiences. I am trained as a birth and postpartum doula through Doula Trainings International and have a wealth of information I acquired through research, education, and life experience. I believe in the popular education model, and see that education doesn't follow hierarchical pathways; it always flows in both directions. I’m also a research nerd. Now, I am following my calling to lend a helping hand to all families. For the last 10 years, I have been employed at Texas Children’s Hospital, where I worked hand in hand with new and experienced mothers to reach their lactation goals. The expertise and knowledge gained from working at the hospital as well as my personal and fulfilling experience as a loving tia, has defined my path: empowering each family on their own special journey.
