About Jocelyn

Since I can remember, I have always found deep love and interest in the perinatal period. My first encounter with pregnancy and birth occurred when I was very young; my mum showed me the 1995 film Nine Months, directed by Chris Columbus, starring Julianne Moore and Hugh Grant, and I was hooked! Essentially, I watched any movie or TV show (that I was aware of) that featured the perinatal period. Some of the shows that I have watched countless times are One Born Every Minute (Channel 4) and Call The Midwife (BBC One). I bring the film and shows up because it is an integral part of the story that led me to become a doula; it kept the spark alive long enough for me to find a way forward into working within the birth and postpartum world. Then, when I went to Mount Royal University to get my Bachelor of Arts degree, it only felt natural to accompany it with a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies, so I see myself as a certified feminist (lol). I have always believed that people are entitled to feel empowered during their birth, and with that comes support, which is where I come in. As your doula, it is my job to support you and your birthing team throughout the duration of your birth. I will never make decisions on your behalf or try to influence your choices, but I will support you in making those decisions, and yes, that includes postpartum care. I will hold space for you and your support team, and I will do my best to help you advocate for your wishes. I understand that the perinatal period is a very vulnerable time, and I feel honoured and blessed to be able to accompany you on your journey.

Birth & Postpartum Doula packages and pricing

Birth

Birth support includes prenatal preparation, continuous on-call labour and birth support– starting at 38 weeks, comfort measures, advocacy and guidance, support for your partner, help understanding your options, and ongoing phone, text and email support throughout pregnancy and leading up to birth.

$1,000 CAD · Flat rate

Post Partum

Postpartum support includes recovery support, newborn care guidance, feeding support, light housekeeping and tidying, overnight care, local resource recommendations, and ongoing phone, text and email support as you adjust to life with your new baby.

$40 CAD · Per hour

Birth & postpartum support combines prenatal preparation, on-call labour and birth support– starting at 38 weeks, comfort measures, advocacy and guidance, partner support, postpartum recovery support, newborn care and feeding guidance, light housekeeping and tidying, local resource recommendations, and ongoing phone, text and email support.

What to expect

Starlight Doula Services offers birth, postpartum, combined birth & postpartum, day-of-birth, and in-hospital support.
