During Hurricane Katrina, while at a family reunion, my family suffered complete devastation losing eight homes. Despite this tragedy, I felt compelled to help. I was deputized by the Red Cross And remain in Louisiana for three months where I developed and lead a disaster assessment team specializing in logistics, a system still in use today. Strangely enough this experience is what first led me into caregiving a career where it is I have never felt more alive or purposeful.
