Hello, my name is Crystal Lopez and I am a PCD through DONA. I have been serving families in the community as a postpartum doula for the past 2 years. I am a mother to three beautiful children. I am also a lover of the arts and anything that has to do with self-expression. Fashion and Makeup are some of my favorites!! I love the theater and also indulge in live music of all genres. I love documentaries and learning about different cultures. I am a stargazer and nature lover and also grew up in the country on a ranch. As a new mother I found myself with so many questions about the birthing process. I took it upon myself to educate myself and attend birthing classes with the San Antonio birth doulas 21 years ago. It was then that I discovered my love for educating women about birthing and their choice to do so. I have since had two other children with the aid from doulas through SABD and 2 years ago was given the opportunity to help grow the postpartum program through that organization. I discovered the power and importance of mothering the mother after she returns home from the hospital. I learned that support during the postpartum period is very crucial and needed although speaking about it seemed taboo. I have served over 100 families both in and out of work, and each one was more enlightening and empowering on both of our ends.

Hi everyone! I’m Megan, and I lead Rooted Birth. I have been a doula and childbirth educator in the San Antonio area since 2017. I am also a Certified Breastfeeding Specialist and I’m studying for my board certification as a lactation consultant. I have a husband, 3 kids, one cat (who we named Albus Dumbledore because of his white beard), and an Aussiedoodle named Zoey. If I’m not working or hanging out with my family, you’ll find me listening to podcasts and audiobooks, practicing pottery, watching reality TV, or doing yoga. I also fancy myself one day winning Star Baker on The Great British Bake-Off. But I’m not British, so that’s one hurdle!

Hello! My name is Serena, and I am a labor doula, placenta encapsulator, and postpartum doula! I have 3 dogs and 2 cats, and if I’m not working I'm usually with them watching TV. My all time favorite shows are Doctor Who and New Girl, though I’m sure you’d have a hard time finding a show I haven’t seen! I also enjoy reading, hiking, playing games, and spending time with my family. My first step into the doula world was becoming a Postpartum doula. This felt very natural to me, as I have been working in childcare for what feels like my whole life! I started off babysitting for my siblings and my parent’s friends when I was younger, became a teacher in the infant room of a daycare at 18, and a postpartum doula at 21. I decided to step into this field because I love helping families adjust to having a new little one! Supporting labor and delivery was a natural transition as I began working as a doula and stepping more and more into the birthing world. Labor and delivery is truly one of the most beautiful and fascinating events I’ve had the honor of witnessing, and I knew instantly that this is exactly what I was meant to do. That’s such a hard question to answer! For postpartum work, I’d have to say it’s the moments when something finally clicks into place. There's always some trial and error with each baby since they each have their own preferences and personalities, but I love the moments when you figure out how they like to be burped, the quickest way to get them sleeping, which formula works for them, and everything in between! I know it's not possible for me to fix every problem that arises, but it always such a relief when I can help with one. Adjusting to this new chapter of your life can be such a chaotic time, and I truly believe it takes a village! For birth work, my favorite part is seeing birthing people reach deep inside themselves and finding strength they never knew they had. The absolute relief and joy I can see on their face as they hold their little one in their arms for the first time always brings tears to my eyes.

I'm a mom of 4 & Nana of 1, married to my soulmate for almost 24 years. Proud to be an Air Force veteran, I was Active duty when my first was born. Her birth was eye opening... and the reason I sought out different options for my second birth. My second was the first of 3 redeeming and beautiful home births, and that experience is what ignited my passion for birth. I wanted to be a midwife for several years but that wasn't in the cards. It was years later, shortly after making the move to pursue photography, that I found my passion in birth photography. From there, my desire to support and encourage birthing families only grew, and I sought out certification as a doula. Obviously I love being there when a sweet little soul makes its debut. It's more than that though! As a birth worker, I have the honor and privilege of witnessing transformations. That realization that they are able, that they are doing it, that they are about to meet their long awaited babies... that they CAN do hard things. That moment is worth the sleepless nights, sore muscles, and changed plans. That moment of empowerment and transformation brings a tear to my eyes. It never gets old. I specialize in documenting birth in photos and films as well as supporting through labor and birth. My passion is seeing each birthing family know their options, understand the pros & cons of each, and making informed choices that support the birth they want. I strive to document those stories (for those clients that desire documentation) to provide a record of that love story as it unfolds. Having had 3 home births personally, I have a deep love of midwifery and out-of-hospital births. I have experience with home and birth center births, hospital births (natural, inductions, epidurals, & cesareans), stillbirths & miscarriage, twins, VBAC, and breech birth.

Being a doula is incredibly fulfilling for me because I get to support moms during one of the most significant moments of their lives. I love being there to provide emotional and physical support, helping them feel empowered and confident throughout their pregnancy and childbirth. It's amazing to turn my passion into my job and see so much good come out of it getting to hold moms who need support it truly is so rewarding and special to get to work my dream job and make a difference in any woman’s life.
