About Laverne

Hi, I'm LaVerne, also known as the Baby Whisperer and I've been a doula for almost ten years. My work centers on creating a calm, nurturing environment where families can truly thrive during pregnancy, birth, and those busy early weeks. I support mothers through the full spectrum of their journey, from birth preparation and labor support to postpartum recovery, both mentally, emotionally, and physically. During birth, I serve as a steady presence, offering comfort measures, encouragement, and advocacy so you can have the empowering experience you envision. In the postpartum period, I'm deeply attuned to babies' cues, cries, and signals, and I provide hands-on care including household tasks, feeding, diapering, bathing, sleep coaching, & meal prep for mom. I also manage The Retreat at MILK Maternity in The Woodlands.

Birth & Postpartum Doula services

I offer daytime and overnight support for households with new babies. Care includes prioritizing mom‘s mental and physical healing (nutrient dense foods, teas, wound care, belly binding, rub downs, sitz baths, and holding space). I also help parents understand their newborns through newborn education, breast-feeding and latching support, and intuitive parenting. Total care includes changing diapers, feeding or bringing baby to mommy to nurse, pumping support and milk storage, baby laundry, nursing organization, and household tasks. I’d love to talk to you about how my team and I can support your individual needs.

LaVerne is a treasure! I call her the baby whisperer because she is so attuned to babies and good at meeting their needs. I half joke (and am half serious) that families should fight over the chance to work with her. We only worked with her for two weeks, a short amount of time, but in that period she was able to transform our baby’s quality of life - she flagged that he most likely had a dietary intolerance and that he seemed to be in pain while lying flat. I spoke to his doctor and after I cut dairy and soy from my diet and we started him on reflux medication, it was like having a whole different baby - he was so much happier and more comfortable. She was extremely attuned to him and his needs and very gentle with soothing. She was proactive and fit into our household routine, for example she would refill my water or organize the baby clothes without being asked. She went above and beyond in caring for our baby and helped to resolve a diaper rash that had been ongoing for weeks. She was very professional, prompt, supportive, and cared for my baby as if he were her own. I will forever be grateful for her attention to our baby’s needs and advocacy on his behalf that helped us make changes so he wouldn’t have to be constantly uncomfortable and in pain. Our entire extended family of parents and grandparents noticed how gifted LaVerne is with babies and how well my son did under her care. She has my highest recommendation without reservations for other families.

My wife and I really enjoyed working with Lavi. I reached out to her because my wife was very overwhelmed and I was about to return back to work. She came in our household and really helped my wife find peace. She helped our baby fall asleep on a schedule (which she is still on), she always made sure my wife had something to eat, every time I came home from work my wife was very relaxed and I learned a lot about how I can help. I think she made a huge difference in our lives and I’m very glad that she was able to support us.

Frequently asked questions

How long is a typical shift?

Most families like support anywhere from 4 - 10 or 12 hours. The perfect shift is what works for your family.

What area of town do you support?

I support moms all over Houston. I also work with a team of Doulas who travel a little bit farther out so we always have someone who can support you.

What is your rate?

I have a standard flat rate for birth/labor $2,000 which includes 4 prenatal visits, a session with a mental health therapist, prenatal massage, full labour & delivery support and 1 postpartum visit. Postpartum support can be billed by the hour or as a custom package.

What is The Retreat at MILK Maternity?

The retreat is a boutique postnatal wellness center designed to support mothers in the fourth trimester. You stay in a gorgeously appointed, private suite that includes around the clock doula care, scratch-made meals, therapy, massage, classes, and community. It’s opening in The Woodlands in the summer of 2026. And I cannot wait to support you there! Please visit the website for more information.
