The cost of a night nanny in Mechanicsville, VA can be influenced by several factors:

  • Experience and Qualifications

Nannies with extensive experience, certifications (e.g., newborn care specialist), or specific training often charge higher rates.

  • Number of Babies

Caring for twins or multiples typically costs more than caring for a single baby due to the increased workload.

  • Hours and Duration

Rates may vary depending on the number of hours per night, the total number of nights required, and whether the arrangement is short-term or long-term.

  • Duties and Responsibilities

Additional responsibilities, such as bottle preparation, light housekeeping, or sleep training, can increase the cost.

  • Time of Year

Demand during peak times, like the holiday season, may drive prices higher.

  • Agency Fees

Hiring through an agency often includes placement fees or additional charges for their services, adding to the overall cost.

  • Overnight Rates vs. Hourly Rates

Some nannies charge a flat overnight rate, while others charge hourly, which can influence costs depending on the length of the shift.

When considering hiring a night nanny in Mechanicsville, VA, it's advisable to research and interview several night nannies to find one who aligns with your preferences, needs, and budget. During consultations, you can discuss their specific services and pricing structure to ensure you have a clear understanding of what is included and the associated costs. I am a postpartum doula certified through DONA International, a lactation consultant trained through The Healthy Children Project, and a Ayurvedic masseur certified through The California College or Ayurveda. I’m a personal chef that specializes in postpartum nutrition and have a catalogue of frozen stews, broths and soups to choose from if you need inspiration for your meal planning. I meet prenatally to help organize the home, nursery and any other members of the support team. (Outlining responsibilities and expectations is work that is best done in advance.) I provide a newborn care class and a lactation class as well as meal prep for soups, stews and broths to be frozen. I always encourage my clients to try to book me for a visit right after the birth while in the hospital for lactation support and a modified version of my Ayurvedic massage. Once the family is home I cook nourishing foods rich in iron, protein, collagen, micro and macro nutrients to aid in recovery from depletion and help speed healing. (I also have a Postpartum Soup Bundle that can be purchased ahead of time.) I do dishes, laundry and of course provide even more lactation support. I can also simply care for the newborn while parents sleep. After the first few weeks the focus tends to shift into finding a daily rhythm, newborn care techniques and education on developmentally appropriate sleep habits for the baby. I also help parents with planning childcare help. I can be a sleep consultant one day and provide a massage the next. Maybe I play with the older children while mama naps with the newborn. Sometimes the work is just to sit and talk about all the things that the parents are struggling with. My job and my life’s joy is to simply be an extra set of hands or a sympathetic ear to new parents.

As a full spectrum doula, integrative lactation and feeding specialist, and licensed massage therapist, I have a passion for supporting all genders, bodies, and family structures through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. My personal birthing experiences include a planned home birth, turned hospital induction, turned cesarean, followed by a home birth VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean.) I have supported births ranging from unmedicated to planned cesareans, and would love to help you achieve the birth that is best for you. I especially value the opportunity to work with queer and trans people, neurodivergent families, and people preparing for births after cesareans. I stay up to date on recommended vaccines to maintain the safety of the populations I work with.

Recent review

I was so thankful to have Jesse as our postpartum doula. They always showed kind, loving care when taking care of our baby; I knew he was in safe, expert hands whenever she was with him. I deeply appreciated their knowledge and guidance, especially the way they pointed out key development markers that gave us much-needed confidence. What makes Jesse truly special is the way she cares for the whole family. While my birth didn’t go as planned, they served as a vital sounding board—commiserating and encouraging me exactly when I needed it most. She has a rare ability to intuit what needs to be done without being asked, whether they were bringing incredible baked goods or jumping in with meal prep and cooking. Jesse is a professional who brings both evidence-based expertise and a warm, grounding presence. I will always treasure the time we had with them, and if we have more children, she will be the first person we invite back into our home.
