Daytime shifts look different depending on what you need that day. Some families want a hand with the baby. Some want help around the house. Some just want someone there who knows what they're doing. I used to get tangled up in the idea that paid support wasn't as real as a village showing up for free, but I don't anymore. When I was in it myself, some of the people who showed up were paid and some weren't. In the moment, I didn't care which was which. I was just glad someone was there.
