I have 33 years experience in the maternal child field. My background includes Nursery RN (1988-1995), lactation consultant (IBCLC) (1995- present), childbirth educator (1988- present), birth doula (DONA)(2011 - present) and I have captured numerous birth stories through photography. Hi! I’m Pam. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Nicholls State University. I am also currently certified through the National Certification Corporation (NCC) in Maternal Newborn Nursing, and as an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant through the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE). I have also held certifications as a Childbirth Educator, first through Best Educators Special Training (BEST) and then through the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association (CAPPA). I have had the privilege of educating expectant families in the tri-parish area for over 30 years. My passion to help expectant couples navigate the journey of birth led me to become a certified Birth Doula through Doulas of North America (DONA), and to become a TOTS trained professional. Since becoming a Board Certified Lactation Consultant in 1997, I have worked throughout the region in both inpatient & outpatient settings. My compassion, drive, and enthusiasm have helped the new families I work with establish and achieve their feeding goals. As a mother of three grown boys, I can still remember my own doubt and need for support during each of my breastfeeding experiences. Now as a grandmother, my desire to help new moms build their confidence in feeding is even stronger. Hi, I’m Brittany Peralta, BSN, RN, IBCLC, an infant feeding specialist and the owner of Britt Feeds Babies. I provide in-home lactation and bottle-feeding support for families navigating breastfeeding, pumping, bottle-feeding, oral tension, reflux, gassiness, slow weight gain, tongue/lip ties, and feeding challenges that feel stressful or confusing. My approach is calm, individualized, and whole-baby focused. I look beyond intake alone to consider comfort, function, oral motor skills, body tension, parent goals, and what feeding actually feels like day to day. Whether your baby is breastfed, bottle-fed, combo-fed, or formula-fed, my goal is to help feeding feel more manageable, connected, and sustainable for your family.

Current statistics show that breastfeeding in lousina is the 2nd to lowest in the country and black women are have the lowest success rates. Subsequent to breastfeeding disparities are the lack of resources of breastfeeding support and education. Diversity in education and cultural sensitivities play a huge role in the success of breastfeeding. To be transparent there’s a need for more women of color within the network of breastfeeding support, this will have a positive impact and break a lot of the barriers that exist in the trust and care amongst black women. In a recent study data showed that along with a desire for support and education on breastfeeding African American women also wanted to see and felt that they’d benefit from having a woman of color as a breastfeeding specialist. As a African American Women myself I want to bridge the gap in care to the community and increase breastfeeding rates and education. As an African American mother of 4 that has had my own breastfeeding journey riddled with its own difficulties and lack of professional support, I set out to not only become educated in lactation specialist but to be the support to the community that so deeply is in need. I’m the 1st and ONLY Black IBCLC In my area , after doing very intense research into Diversity within Lactation Education and Support ; I am working closely with non black providers to help break the barriers that exist. It’s an honor to serve , and share my expertise. I will use my Masters of Arts in Health and Wellness with a focus in Human Lactation to continue to change the biases and lactation social injustices that impair so many Black families. I work with all families and specialize in the Black Family Barriers.
