My experience started in 1997 as a Mother-Baby nurse where I began working with families who were also learning to feed their babies. I knew I wanted to become a lactation consultant after repeatedly watching parents in tears and feeling defeated as they struggled with feeding their infants regardless of their age, education level, or race. I pursued that education and became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) in 2005. I breastfed my four children, but not without my own hiccups! Even though I had some experience and knowledge, each baby was doing it for the first time, and we had to learn how to do it together!
