I am passionate about empowering birthing families to actively prepare for childbirth. Through my own experiences, I felt that there was a gap in labor support between healthcare professionals and labor partners. Many birthing people I have interacted with describe fear and apprehension as they approached their labor. Even more tragically, many birthing families have expressed disappointment or even trauma from a birth experience that felt poorly communicated, emergent, and out of their control. Part of my mandate is to know the limitations of the healthcare system and to educate families to advocate for their own birth using current and evidence-based information. Not knowing what you do not know can lead to overwhelming decisions and out-of-control situations.
