About me

My name is Polina Westcott. I am a birth doula serving New Haven, Middlesex, Hartford and Litchfield counties. I believe that women's bodies are built to birth, and I work with mamas to help them achieve the best possible outcomes in their birth experience. I believe that while medical interventions are sometimes necessary and can be life-saving, they are often overused. Since having my two boys (both home births) I have become obsessed with all things birth. I have a podcast about pregnancy, birth, postpartum and parenting. I love helping mamas in any way I can to have a great experience in their journey into and through motherhood.

I believe that a woman’s body is made for birth. For most women, interventions do more harm than good, yet the medical system is often incentivized to not support a natural, physiological birth. Too often, mamas are pressured to give birth on someone else’s imagined schedule instead of being trusted to let their bodies and their babies do what they are designed to do, in their own time, when they are ready. I support home births, birth center births, and hospital births. I also believe medical interventions absolutely have their place, and when they are truly necessary and selected by the mama with full informed consent, I am in full support of using them. But my goal (and the goal of the mamas I work with) is to experience birth naturally and without interventions unless they are actually, medically needed. There are other philosophies, and there are doulas who align beautifully with those. If you are a mama who wants to schedule a c-section for convenience, or who plans to ask for an epidural the moment you walk through the hospital doors, you absolutely have that right, but I am probably not the right doula for you. On the other hand, if your goal is an intervention-free birth, if you are willing to educate and prepare yourself, and if you want someone by your side who believes in your body’s ability to birth, then I may be exactly who you’re looking for. And if birth takes an unexpected turn and interventions become necessary, you can know with certainty that I will be there, supporting you wholeheartedly, every step of the way.
