I am a DONA trained birth and postpartum doula serving the greater Portland Maine region and beyond. I believe every birth and birthing parent is unique and deserves the support and encouragement of a doula that encourages their unique experiences. The birth and postpartum period can be full of a wide range of emotions and feelings and I truly honor and hold space during this sacred time. I offer on-call services from 38 weeks of gestation until birth with prenatal preparation appointments provided before this time. Continuous labor support is provided with emotional support, natural pain management techniques, encouragement as well as assistance in navigating communications with medical teams. I also provide postpartum support for families which includes care for both birth parent and infant, support with baby feeding, house hold duties, family support, emotional support and additional resource and references. Postpartum support really helps the new family transition into their new roles and life with compassionate support along the way.

My name is Julie Mitchell and I am a Certified Labor and Postpartum/Infant Care Doula, as well as a Certified Lactation Counselor and Integrative Health Coach. I live in Midcoast Maine and support families of all kinds before, during and after the birth of their baby. I support families in the weeks and months after baby arrives. In person, virtually, all across Hampton and the surrounding NH towns, southern Maine, and the North Shore of MA. Most nights I'm in your home while you sleep. I handle the feeds, the diaper changes, the 3am stuff, so you can actually rest instead of running on empty. Daytime shifts look different depending on what you need that day. Some families want a hand with the baby. Some want help around the house. Some just want someone there who knows what they're doing. I used to get tangled up in the idea that paid support wasn't as real as a village showing up for free, but I don't anymore. When I was in it myself, some of the people who showed up were paid and some weren't. In the moment, I didn't care which was which. I was just glad someone was there. What matters is whether the person in your house is actually present with you, not just going through the motions. That's what I try to be.

I am a mother of three. After experiencing postpartum struggles of my own, I decided to make a difference in the parenting community by joining the birth and postpartum world. I belive that all birthgivers and parents deserve to be educated, supported, and feel empowered in their journeys. When I am not working I can be found enjoying the Maine outdoors or tending our small farm.

I have been a labor/postpartum/newborn nurse for over 10 years. I am a breastfeeding specialist as well. I help run a local postpartum support group. I offer in home support to families who just brought home a baby to help navigate this huge transition!

I am a RN IBCLC Lactation Consultant and have been for over 40 years. I have worked all areas of obstetrical nursing, including home care I currently run my own business from my home. I do home visits and my goal is to assist mom baby and family to achieve the feeding goals that are important to them . I am also a Certified Happiest Baby on the Block educator .
