Well Mama Birth Services was born from my deep desire to create a space where every woman feels seen, heard, and supported throughout her birthing journey. Rooted in a holistic approach to birth, I honor both the physical and emotional experiences, believing that when women are treated with care, respect, and compassion during pregnancy, they birth with strength and grace. Inspired by the legacy of the women in my family who taught me to trust myself, my body, and the sacred process of birth, their wisdom is at the heart of everything I do as a doula. Carina is a second generation Filipinx and El Salvadoran queer and revolutionary full-spectrum doula. In an effort to embrace both of Carina's ancestral lineages, Carina is committing to the re-knowing/re-learning of advocacy for families on their journeys of pregnancy, labor, postpartum, miscarriages, loss, and abortion. Through this work, Carina devotes themself to re-membering the innate wisdom and powers of birthing people’s abilities to birth life into this earthly realm. In re-membering this ancient wisdom, Carina rejects harmful patriarchal systems and resists colonial structures of all forms. Carina provides additional support by bridging birthwork and astrology through careful observation of one’s cosmic makeup to identify any aspects and/or analyze current transits in the sky as it relates to someone's placements. She provides insights into the energies of a chart to instill a sense of calm, understanding, and presence through the sacred journey. In addition to Carina's duty to ensure their clients feel seen, held, and supported, she recognizes that every birthing person's experience is unique and as a result of this, ensures the care they receive is catered to their individual experiences. In and out of this work, Carina of Tandaan Mo (remember) La Tierra (the land) aims to uplift, support, honor, and advocate for all sacred portals.

I am a Certified VBAC Doula, trained to serve as a birth and postpartum doula, and offer bereavement doula services for those experiencing pregnancy or infant loss. A successful VBA2C using Hypnobabies in 2011 ignited my enduring passion for supporting and achieving optimal birthing experiences and sharing information about pregnancy and birth to advocate for better perinatal and newborn health outcomes. I’m the owner of Atala Doula Services, serving the Sacramento region and surrounding counties of northern California. Having spent most of my adult working life as a technical writer, which involves gathering information from subject matter experts and creating written resources that even non-technical people can easily understand and follow, I realized the work was not as rewarding or fulfilling as I wish it would be. So, I embarked on some introspection to evaluate my personality, my strengths, what I enjoyed about my prior work, and what I most want to do in the future…be a source of support and empowerment for others.

I became a birth and postpartum doula after completing my training through Birthing Project USA in 2020. I began my doula business to address and help circumvent the racial disparities African American women and other women of color face in the medical industry.
