My name is Krystal Brisette Vélez-Gómez-Edwards and I am of Indigenous-Mexicana and Nicaragüense descent. I am open to supporting all births of all beliefs and practices. I am passionate about my own cultural work and practicing as a traditional, Mexican doula, acknowledging birth as ceremony. My first career path was in nursing until I discovered my dismay with Western medicine and healthcare. Years later I experienced the birth of my son, Michael, who is now 16. I was 21 and had no support outside of my marriage, I had no clue what I was doing and I didn't know what I didn't know. I ate awfully and gained at least 70 pounds. When my water broke and I was admitted to the hospital, I was soon told I would need a cesarean due to my son going into "distress." I planned to have a natural birth, but here I was receiving an epidural (fentanyl!) and being cut open and tugged at from within. I was so detached from my own body. My baby was taken from the room and I didn't have the opportunity to enjoy the benefits and pleasure of skin-to-skin bonding, our 'golden hour' to breastfeed peacefully. I suffered from postpartum depression and learned to bury and forget the experience because I figured that's just how it was. It wasn't until years later that it came up for me and was a catalyst for many positive changes in my life. I was a few years into healing work with indigenous medicines and in one of my own ceremonies, I received a calling to bring ceremony back to birth, along with visions of burying a placenta at a sacred tree. I began researching traditional Mexican birth work to discover that this was in fact an indigenous tradition. I dedicated myself to the journey of birth work. I obtained training in many facets of holistic birth work and traditional, Mexican birth work, including herbalism to support birth and postpartum, womb healing, rebozo work, techniques for comfort and pain management as well as repositioning breech babies, lactation support, craniosacral therapy, cerrada de caderas (traditional closing ceremony), and the list continues to grow. I have been studying safe use of psychedelics during pregnancy and birth. As a traditional, certified holistic birth and postpartum doula, my primary role is to provide emotional, physical, and informational support to you during pregnancy, labor, childbirth, and beyond. I believe birth work is sacred and magical. Most importantly, I'm passionate about incorporating traditional practices into my work, which means I can also draw on indigenous knowledge and rituals to enhance and support your desired birthing experience. Together, we'll navigate this journey, ensuring you feel empowered and well-supported throughout.

Cristal was absolutely essential to my uncomplicated delivery of my child. Her warmth and knowledge gave me the confidence and peace to go within myself and have an unmedicated delivery in the hospital. Being able to text her with any questions during and before early labor was incredibly comforting and helpful. Cristal was also a tremendous support for my mom and husband in the hospital, making the whole experience more personalized and less stressful. She provided them with the confidence and reassurance they needed, creating a calm and supportive environment for all of us. At the end of my quarentena, Cristal performed my cerada de caderas ceremony, which was beautiful and just the pampering I needed. This ceremony helped me reconnect with my roots and heal from my previous two birthing experiences. Cristal's support, both during and after delivery, was invaluable, and I am deeply grateful for her presence during this important time in my life. Thank you, Cristal, for everything you've done for me and my family!

I'm a queer, Black birth worker offering sliding scale doula care in the East Bay. I was born and raised in Oakland and I only take on a handful of clients at a time so that I can give you as much individualized attention as possible. I trained as a full-spectrum doula in 2021 with Sumi's Touch and have been actively supporting clients in the transformative process of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum for over a year. Before that, I worked as an infant-toddler teacher for years and I incorporate education on newborn care in my work as a doula. I believe that education and information is critical to you being able to make choices that work best for you and go into birth with confidence and grounding in your abilities and understanding of your own body and baby. The goal of every birth is to create an environment and process that is uniquely comfortable and grounding for the person giving birth and so I provide a number of prenatal sessions to prepare parents with the knowledge and tools to make their own informed decisions while also being ready to step in and advocate on behalf of the parents' needs at any point. I am particularly interested in mindful birthing and finding the methods of pain reduction that work for each person, building a birth environment that feels as familiar and homey as possible (music, lighting, calming scents, etc), and being anything and everything you may need from home to the hospital, whether that be a coach, cook, massage therapist, fierce advocate, or photographer. I also have an affinity for postpartum care that encompasses lactation support, postpartum healing, herbal remedies, baby care, or just doing your dishes so you don’t have to worry about that too.

I was in labor for three days, and I can’t imagine how I would’ve managed without Leila. She is the support every person deserves during this process. She listened to my needs and helped me create a birth plan that reflected my personality. At the hospital, she advocated for me fiercely, pushing for alternatives that aligned with my wishes, even when the medical team repeatedly fear-mongered. Postpartum, she offered invaluable advice that helped me process my labor experience and navigate lactation. I am incredibly grateful that I had her by my side.

We hired Jeremy Anne to help care for our daughter back when she was 9 months. She was with us for about 5 months. She helped with feeding, play, naps, walking development, baby sign, minor housekeeping items and offered advice with caring for a baby. She has a wonderful holistic approach with her support. She cares about ALL family members - humans and pets alike! We loved that she wasn’t a “transactional” kind of person, she really took the time to get to know us, ask good questions and offer personal care support when needed. She also went out of her way for many things. I will always remember how she helped develop healthy boundaries with our dog as we were adjusting to our daughter’s needs. The boundaries helped build a healthy relationship with our baby and fur baby! Our daughter enjoyed being around Jeremy and she misses her I think sometimes. Jeremy was very helpful with helping our baby walk! We keep in touch and recently shared how our little one is walking all over the place now! I wish we could have had more time with Jeremy. She is a blessing, she is so peaceful and calm.

Our 10-month-old baby boy has never been a good sleeper, waking up 2 to 4 times a night and needing to fall back asleep in our arms. Nap time was a constant struggle, and he would barely sleep for 30 minutes at a time. Frustrated and sleep-deprived, my husband and I decided to seek help from a sleep trainer, and luckily, a friend recommended Caroline at Sleep4Littles. After speaking with Caroline on the phone, she immediately put me at ease. She is professional, confident, and compassionate. Caroline knows her stuff! She arrived at our home for Night Nannying and helped us implement a customized plan for our little guy. We began to witness a remarkable transformation in our baby. Today, he sleeps soundly from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.! We diligently follow the routine that was recommended, and it's been a game-changer for us. Caroline's expertise goes beyond simply fixing sleep schedules. She provided valuable advice on our baby's feeding and activities as well. Her extensive experience with little ones shines through in her thoughtful recommendations. We wholeheartedly recommend her services to any parents facing sleep challenges with their little ones. Caroline has truly been a lifesaver for our family!!

Childbirth has always been very intertwined with my life. I owe some of that to my mother, who planned home births for all of her children. I am the oldest of us four, and my labor was long and hard. I grew up hearing the story of the four day marathon of labor, hospital transfer, and, ultimately, the beautiful birth that brought me into the world. My brother was born when I was almost three, on a hot July day. I have some memories of this day, but nothing very clear. My mom remembers me bringing her a cool glass of water between contractions. Some might say I became a doula that day. When I was 6, my mom became pregnant again. I was absolutely thrilled to be having a baby sister. I remember going to midwife appointments at the midwife’s home in Sebastopol, listening to my sister’s heartbeat, and enjoying every moment of it. Her labor started some time during the night. This time, it was Winter. My mom spent most of her labor in front of the woodburning stove in our living room with my dad applying counter pressure to her back. I remember she had thigh high socks to wear specifically for labor, because she didn’t want to wear pants, but knew her legs would be cold. In the early afternoon, she began pushing on our couch. The midwives were always close by, creating a sense of safety and calm, one of them singing as my sister was born. I stood at the end of the couch, and saw my sister’s head slowly emerge, and then the rest of her body slip out. She immediately went to my mom’s chest and crawled to the breast herself. I was entranced by birth at this moment. In the weeks after, I told my mom I wanted to become a midwife. The last baby was born when I was 10 years old. I was again elated to be around pregnancy and looking forward to the birth. My mom labored all through the night, and when the sun rose, her intuition told her she needed to go to the hospital and get some rest. No one thinks that a fourth baby will take 17 hours to be born, but sometimes they do! After my mom got a few hours of rest, my grandparents took us to the hospital to join her. She felt that birth was a family affair, and believed that children should be a part of birth. I also would have been furious with her if I didn’t get to be there. My sister entered the world, and I got to cut the umbilical cord and be the first to hold her after my mom. I took my first doula training with Connie Sultana in 2024 and since then have attended almost 50 births. I am in constant pursuit of knowledge, each birth teaching me something different. I am now a Cornerstone Certified Birth and Postpartum Doula and Evidence Based Birth® instructor. I am always striving to be able to provide the best support I can for my clients. I am currently pursuing becoming a Certified Nurse Midwife. As of 2026, I have completed nursing prerequisite courses, including biology, chemistry anatomy, physiology, and microbiology and look forward to beginning an RN program in Fall of 2026. I use the knowledge I have gained of the human body through my formal education to help inform the support I provide so that my clients can understand what is happening with their body and their baby. For most people, childbirth is the time in their lives where they will be asked to be the most medically literate, which is intimidating for most working outside of healthcare. The education I have has given me the language and tools to communicate and learn from nurses, midwives, and doctors during births, so that I can understand and interpret information for my clients. After becoming a registered nurse, I plan to attend graduate school to obtain my degree and certification as a Certified Nurse Midwife and practice in a hospital based setting.

Maggie is a remarkable human being and Doula! With my planned C-section, I wasn’t sure how a doula would be able to support my experience. Before my son’s birth she provided a whole binder full of helpful resources and an easy template for creating a birthing plan. At the hospital before my surgery she was a wonderful advocate and made sure all my providers were on the same page. Her calming presence, along with the grounding exercises she lead, helped me go into my birth in the right headspace. In the post-op room she was there to help my baby boy get a good latch right away. Breastfeeding has been such a positive experience and I have Maggie to thank for that! I always looked forward to her visits as she is a true baby whisperer. Maggie was super supportive with tasks like nail trimming, pumping, bottle feeding, bathing, and holding the baby so I could tend to myself. I can’t recommend her highly enough!

Amy is absolutely amazing! We had her for 2 weeks of last-minute night support when nights were getting really tough for us in the newborn days, and wish we could have had her for longer. Our twins were going through an uncomfortable gassy phase and she made sure they were soothed throughout the nights. Amy is super knowledgeable and willing to answer questions and share her expertise. She would always take the time to debrief at the end of each night, even if that meant staying a little longer to make sure all our questions were answered. She also brought books and bottles/wraps/shusher for us to try. We're really grateful for her support and would highly recommend her to any family in need of postpartum support!
