I am planning for a hospital birth with an OBGYN at Tuomey hospital in Sumter, SC. I do not have experience looking for a doula but I see the necessity for one this time around. I have prior history of obstetric violence and nonconsensual procedures resulting in severe injuries and trauma during my first and only birth. I am looking for someone who is trauma informed. I am aiming for low intervention vaginal birth and have consulted an OBGYN whose initial assessment is that this is a possibility. I need someone to help me advocate for myself and make sure that I understand what is happening, so I can make decisions based on information, rather than fear and pressure. I will also need help with maintaining my boundaries around consent about procedures or interventions as I tend to freeze in high stress situations.

My approach to birth is being fully present and enjoying the moment with my husband, but also being in control of our birth. I know I can’t fully control what happens but I would like an advocate for my husband and I while it’s happening. I know things can go from 0 to 100 really quickly, and sometimes in a hospital setting people sort of forget your birth plan and decide to do their own. By having a doula, we would be able to enjoy this moment without the worry of our plan being dismissed. Hey ladies. I am expecting my 2nd child approx January 5th. My first birth I did have to be induced but once things were right, it went well with epidural, just a couple pushes, no need for stitches, resulting in a healthy baby girl. This time with my son, I am wanting to try and hoping for an unmedicated birth to the best of my ability. I want to labor down as much as possible if time allows, learn all things that can help relax my mind, body, and pelvic floor as I’ve already been determined to have tight muscles after my 2nd child and currently.
