I am a newly licensed RN. I started in Labor and Delivery and have since chosen to pivot to pediatric nursing. I have two children of my own, ages 18 and 14. Before nursing, I was a birth doula in the Sacramento area where I served families out of the hospital as a privately hired doula and also in the capacity of hospital volunteer doula, at some points. We think it’s important not to push clients to do things but allow them to choose their own paths. I am a labor/postpartum support serving families in the DFW area. My pursuit to maternal health education began six years ago when I experienced a homebirth of my third child. The following year, I supported a community member birth at the hospital and witnessed the differences between midwife facilitating brith at home and a midwife facilitating birth at a hospital. My research to find answers led me to learning about the history and the foundation of obstetrics in the United States. It has been my mission since then to support women experience pregnancy and labor as educated beings no matter where they decide to have a baby. My passion for this work aligns with my Faith, Islam. Hello! My name is Tab’itha, better known as Tabby, and I’m a passionate certified professional midwife currently residing in Mesquite, Texas. I was born and raised in the Stop 6 area of Fort Worth, TX, and I am a proud mother of three teenage girls. From a young age, I always wanted to be a "baby doctor." My grandmother would often say, "You will be a doctor, and your sister will be a lawyer." Although I encountered quite a few roadblocks and detours along the way, I eventually found my way back to what my grandmother had always believed in, but in a way that resonates with me even more—becoming a midwife. I later discovered that midwifery was in my blood; my great-grandmother was a trusted midwife in her small community in Mississippi, which further inspired my journey. I graduated from Southwest Tech with an associate degree in Health Science and Midwifery in December 2024 and passed my NARM exam in April 2025, becoming fully licensed as a midwife in Texas. I am currently finishing up my Bachelor’s in Nursing at Arizona College, further enhancing my skills and knowledge in healthcare. My journey into birth work began in 2018 when I trained as a birth doula through DONA. As a doula, I have attended over 150 in-hospital and out-of-hospital births. When COVID peaked, I was fortunate enough to continue support in the hospital. It was during this time that I realized I needed to acquire the education and skills to become a community midwife sooner than I had originally planned. During my schooling, I attended an additional 95 births and worked with several well-respected midwives and OB-GYNs in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, gaining invaluable experience. I have also acquired skills and experience as a bereavement and cesarean/VBAC support specialist, allowing me to provide comprehensive care to families during significant moments in their lives. I believe in the power of compassionate care and informed choices, striving to create a safe and nurturing environment for my clients. My end goal is to become a certified nurse midwife and nurse practitioner, bringing holistic and woman-centered care to communities that lack representation, including the area where I grew up. As an avid homeschooler, I enjoy engaging with my daughters in their education while also finding joy in my hobbies such as sewing, crafts, hosting workshops for young girls, and assisting in the offices I hold in my church.
