Hello! My name is Sarah, and I am an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant with a master's degree in public health and Certificate in Maternal and Child Health. I have over 15 years of experienced working in the field of lactation, and currently work in the hospital, NICU and a birthing center setting. As a mom of two breastfed children, I am well acquainted with the many struggles and challenges that can occur when trying to meet breastfeeding goals, such as lip ties, low milk supply, latch issues, food allergies, sleep deprivation and postpartum anxiety. Despite all these challenges, I fought to meet my breastfeeding goals and would love to support you as you work to meet yours! As evidence proves, the more support a woman has in her breastfeeding journey, the easier the journey becomes. So, Whole Family Lactation encourages just that, WHOLE family consulting. If desired, partners, grandparents, aunts, and children are all welcome to attend consults, as their knowledge and daily support will help guide and encourage the breastfeeding parent through the ups and downs of infant feeding and care.

I am passionate about helping moms when they are at one of the most vulnerable points in their lives. Struggling to feed a tiny new human can feel overwhelming at times and I so enjoy meeting moms right where they are at and working with them to meet their breastfeeding goals. It is my joy to be part of their journey and witness their successes.

After the birth of my first daughter in 2011, I became passionate about breastfeeding and its advocacy. I had no idea how hard and isolating it would be and desperately wanted help and advice. We moved back to the Capital Region and I found La Leche League! This community of supportive, non-judgmental nursing families inspired me and I became an accredited Leader in 2017. Since then, I’ve been fervently learning about breastfeeding and human lactation. I earned the title of IBCLC in December 2022. I live in Averill Park, NY with my husband, two daughters, our two rescue cats, and a handful of chickens. I love gardening, cooking, cycling, running, pole vaulting, learning new things, and empowering families to overcome challenges and achieve their goals.

As a Registered Nurse with extensive birthing center, neonatal ICU (NICU), and postpartum experience- I understand that breastfeeding doesn’t always come naturally-and that’s okay. Having worked in hospitals for over 15 years-I can help you navigate your breastfeeding journey from pregnancy to postpartum and up to the 1st year of life. I have worked at Vassar Medical Center and Northern Dutchess most recently but also have experience working in other cities and countries where breastfeeding was highly valued. I am also a Yoga Alliance Certified Yoga Teacher, and love animals. I am a L&D and mother/baby nurse (LDRP) with 10+ years experience who wanted care for clients outside of the hospital after seeing the need in my local area. I have been doing postpartum doula work since January 2024, and have started taking on childbirth ed and labor clients as well. I also have a team of other birth center nurses who assist with postpartum care as well. I believe in a healthy relationship with the medical providers, while also advocating for your specific wants and needs. For labor, my experience has been as an RN for 10+ years with both high risk pregnancies, low risk, every intervention known to man, and as natural as Mother Nature made it. I’m certified in inpatient obstetrics and fetal monitoring (RNC-OB, C-EFM).

Breastfeeding Savvy (BFS) is a breastfeeding clinic, emulating a homelike setting, located at 58 Clifton Country Road, Clifton Park, NY, 12065, Suite 106. Our breastfeeding clinic was created to support the postpartum period and optimize the breastfeeding/ pumping dyads journey. Hi, I’m Christine Hernandez — a doula, childbirth educator, and lactation counselor based in the Capital District. Alongside my work with parents, I also run Broadway Coffee Co. in Saratoga Springs, a community space created to caffeinate and connect new moms. My journey into birth work began after the birth of my first child . I often refer to this experience as the best and hardest time. I was astounded by the disparity of education, preparation, and namely support provided around birth and even more so postpartum. I became a passionate student and advocate of birth, and postpartum experiences in my corner of the world and the larger diaspora. My mission as your doula is to walk alongside you, providing information, comfort measures, resources, emotional support, advocacy and space.
