What's the Cost of Hiring a Midwife in Boise, ID?

The cost of a midwife in Boise, ID can vary depending on the services provided, the midwife's experience, and whether you are giving birth at home, a birthing center, or a hospital. On average, midwife services for prenatal care, delivery, and postpartum care range from $3,000 to $6,000. Some midwives offer payment plans or sliding scale fees, and costs may be partially covered by insurance depending on your plan. It's best to contact local midwives or birthing centers directly for specific pricing and details.

The cost of a midwife in Boise, ID can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Midwife

Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) who work in hospital settings may have different pricing than Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) who attend home births or birth center deliveries.

  • Birth Setting

Hospital births with a midwife typically cost less out-of-pocket when covered by insurance, while home births and birth center deliveries may have different fee structures.

  • Scope of Services

Many midwives offer comprehensive packages that include prenatal visits, labor and delivery support, and postpartum care, which can affect the overall cost.

  • Insurance Coverage

Whether insurance covers the cost of a midwife in Boise, ID, depends on your specific insurance plan and provider. Many insurance plans, including Medicaid in Idaho, may cover midwifery services, especially if the midwife is licensed and practicing in a hospital, birthing center, or as part of a network of approved providers. Coverage can vary based on whether the midwife provides care for home births, as some insurers may not include home birth services. It's essential to contact your insurance provider directly to confirm coverage details, including in-network midwives, co-pays, and any potential out-of-pocket expenses.

  • Experience and Specialization

Midwives with extensive experience, additional certifications, or specializations such as VBAC support or water birth may charge higher rates.

  • Geographic Location

Midwifery costs can vary based on the cost of living and demand for midwifery services in your specific area.

When considering hiring a midwife in Boise, ID, it's advisable to research and interview several midwives to find one who aligns with your birth plan, preferences, and budget. During consultations, you can discuss their specific services, insurance acceptance, and pricing structure to ensure you have a clear understanding of what is included and the associated costs.

Every family deserves a safe and satisfying birth experience, and I want to help you greet labor with knowledge, connection, and trust. I began my doula career in 2013, and have completed trainings through DONA International,ToLabor, ICEA, and Spinning Babies. When I am not supporting families I enjoy spending time with my own family, exploring trails, cooking, and photography.

Our gratitude for Jamie during the pregnancy and birth of first child does not fully express how fortunate we are to have her support and guidance during this new season of our lives. Jamie provided a wealth of information about the birthing process, supportive interventions and we always enjoyed her visits. She checked in with us frequently and was always a text or phone call away when needed. Jamie was willing to come early to support us through the unexpected journey of our birth and provided positivity throughout the changes that occurred. We are so thankful for her postpartum visit and will continue to sing our praises for her. Our family is so lucky to have her support through this time and know that she is a lifelong friend. I love that she is a fellow military spouse and hope that we will continue to stay in contact for years to come. We would whole heartedly recommend Jamie to any family that is considering a doula and loved our experience with her! You will not go wrong with Jamie by your side.

I am an experienced birth doula who has supported many mothers and families through pregnancy and birth. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, which shapes the way I support labor—especially through understanding how babies navigate the pelvis and how movement and positioning can make a real difference. I support both mothers and fathers as they prepare for and move through birth together. I’m also a mother of four, and I spent nine years living in Boise, where much of my experience and passion for birth work grew.

Stephani is absolutely incredible. She has such a calming, grounding, peaceful presence and approaches birth in that same calm, peaceful, grounding way. She is knowledgeable, passionate, and empowering. I truly don’t think my birth experience would have been the same without her! I was having my 4th baby, but after 3 inductions and 3 epidurals with my other kids (all fine experiences), I wanted my last birth to be different. Stephani was the one who gave me the courage to look into going unmedicated. She told me her own birth stories, recommended providers, and constantly offered her support and expertise. When I was pregnant, she came to my house and taught me about what to expect in labor. I had never gone into labor on my own before, so it was really helpful to know what it might be like and how I could cope. She taught my husband counter pressure, taught me stretches and exercises I could do to make sure baby was in a good position, and gave countless helpful tips! When I went a week overdue and was feeling discouraged, I texted Stephani and she dropped everything to support me. She gave me a foot massage, a scalp massage, showed me different positions to help the baby settle into my pelvis. We talked about the need to just surrender and let go of any expectations or control. I went into labor that same night, just hours after being with Stephani. I truly think her helping me change my mindset was what relaxed me enough to go into labor! I texted her as soon as I went into labor, and she was right there with me every step of the way. She was SO incredibly helpful in every way—knowing if my water really had broken or if I had peed my pants, coaching me through contractions, knowing when it was time to go to the hospital, how to get through the car ride while in labor, how to cope with contractions, knowing my options about pushing positions, etc. I could go on and on! Her knowledge was SO HELPFUL. Honestly though, the best thing about Stephani is knowing that she’s got your back. She checked in on me frequently, during pregnancy, around my due date, of course when I was in labor, and postpartum. I felt carried by her through this incredible birth experience. I will recommend her to anyone and everyone I know! Everyone should feel loved and supported and carried through pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum like I did. I feel emotional writing this review—that’s how you know your doula changed your life! ❤️

As soon as I became pregnant, I started looking for the best ways for support. After all this was my first pregnancy and I’ve heard from my sister how amazing her doula made her experience. I found Carli, at meet and greet event for doulas. She was the first person I met with that day, and I instantly felt that Carli should be MY doula. She was amazing!! She exudes confidence!! I knew she’d be a great support for me during labor and delivery, I just never fully understood until it happened. She spoke kindly, and empowering words towards me. When I felt scared or too tired to keep going she reminded me how far I’ve come and how close we were to meeting our little girl. She really never left my side. She was the ultimate support, constantly sending me positive energy and encouragement. Reminding me that I can do this. She comforted me, and guided my husband to feel confident in his role during labor and delivery. from teaching him counter- pressure techniques when I was in early labor, to educating us on hospital procedures to prepare us for the ideal birth experience. My favorite thing she said was “it’s temporary the feeling of discomfort is temporary, you’re so close to meeting your baby girl.” She captured precious moments, and put together the absolute best birth video that my husband and I will cherish forevermore. I’m so happy Carli was my doula throughout this entire experience, I can’t express enough how comforting and empowering having her by my side was, as I went through such a life changing experience.

Sariah Smith

For all of history, up until the last century or two, birth was a uniquely feminine and sacred event supported by midwives, mothers, sisters, friends, and neighbors. Mothers were given the space, trust, and respect to intuitively birth their children, just as their bodies were designed to. In the 20th century, the modernization of birth care, intended to increase safety, unfortunately pushed labor support out the picture. Doctors became more concerned with outcomes alone than with the transformative experience of birth, itself. The emergence of doulas in the developed world was a desperate and necessary response to the all-too-common technocratic birthing model that has changed society’s entire view and practice of giving birth. The culture of non-medical labor support is thankfully not lost. Women deserve the same sanctity, respect, and space to do what their bodies know best now, as they did for all those centuries. I believe supporting the birth experience in its traditional light is my calling.

Sariah is the perfect mix of every trait you could want in a doula. Fun, lighthearted, sooo deeply compassionate and empathetic, exceptionally knowledgeable, excellent under pressure, and full of passion for and belief in birth. She has so many tricks up her sleeve to keep births moving along, help resolve positional issues, and increase your comfort during labor. She also has amazing herbal knowledge to support all stages of the process. Sariah was a godsend at both my homebirths. She perceived my needs before I ever expressed them. She kept me fed, watered, cool and comfortable. She provided counter pressure with an endless well of patience and strength. She took care of me during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum with such love and I am forever grateful! Also: she is a baby whisperer and is amazing with kids of all ages! You won’t find a more capable, knowledgeable or passionate doula. I highly recommend her to every pregnant momma 💗
