What's the Cost of Hiring a Lactation Consultant in Centennial, CO?

The cost of a lactation consultant in Centennial, CO, can vary depending on the provider, the length of the session, and the type of service (in-person, virtual, hospital-based, or private practice). Typically, private lactation consultants charge between $100 and $250 per session, with initial consultations often being more expensive than follow-ups. Some insurance plans may cover part or all of the cost, so it's worth checking with your provider. Additionally, local hospitals or community organizations may offer free or low-cost lactation support services.

The cost of a lactation consultant in Centennial, CO can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Certification

International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) typically charge more than Certified Lactation Counselors (CLCs) due to their advanced training and ability to handle complex breastfeeding issues.

  • Visit Type

In-home visits generally cost more than office visits or virtual consultations. Many consultants in Centennial offer telehealth options at reduced rates.

  • Insurance Coverage

Whether insurance covers the cost of a lactation consultant in Centennial, CO, depends on your specific insurance plan. Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), many insurance plans are required to cover breastfeeding support, including lactation consultants, without cost-sharing. However, coverage can vary based on the provider you use, whether they are in-network, and the type of plan you have. It's important to contact your insurance provider directly to confirm coverage details, including any limitations or requirements, such as needing a referral.

  • Number of Sessions

Some consultants offer package deals for multiple sessions, which can be more cost-effective than paying per visit, especially for ongoing breastfeeding challenges.

  • HSA and FSA Eligibility

Lactation consulting is an IRS-eligible medical expense, meaning you can use HSA or FSA funds to cover the cost without paying taxes on those dollars.

  • Experience and Specialization

Consultants with specialized expertise in areas like tongue ties, premature infant feeding, or relactation may charge higher rates.

When looking for a lactation consultant in Centennial, CO, it's a good idea to check with your insurance provider first, as many plans cover lactation services. Interview several consultants to find one who fits your needs and budget, and ask about their specific credentials, experience, and what each session includes.

Our daughter was a NICU baby with a complicated history who came home on a feeding tube. I had always planned on breastfeeding her, but once we were home, it felt like the problems kept piling up (oral aversion, thrush, tongue tie, severe reflux, and more), and that goal began to seem out of reach. Despite my own training as an IBCLC, I was anxious and overwhelmed, and my main objective shifted to getting her off the feeding tube by whatever means necessary. We were incredibly fortunate to find Sarah in the thick of it all. She has extensive experience with medically complex infants and with both breast and bottle feeding. She was confident she could help us, and her support never wavered. Step by step, we peeled back the layers of why feeding our baby was so complicated, and we slowly began to make progress. One day, our daughter woke up and began taking full bottles, almost out of the blue. We were overjoyed and in disbelief. What followed felt truly miraculous. About 12 hours after her first full bottle in two months, she breastfed like she had been doing it all her life. From that moment on, she was exclusively breastfed, and we never looked back. When I returned to work a few months later, she had no trouble taking a bottle, and she continues to breastfeed at 16 months old. I truly believe that without Sarah’s expertise, our daughter would have required a long-term feeding tube and breastfeeding would never have been attainable. We will always be grateful for her support during one of the hardest times of our lives.

Hiring Kristen as our doula was the best thing I did for my pregnancy and birth. She made herself available throughout the final few months of my pregnancy via countless texts and phone calls prepared to answer all the wild questions I had about any symptoms or feelings. When I finally went into labor, none of us knew I’d be in it for a whopping 60 hours before my son was in my arms. I could go on and on about all the things she did to help get my son in an optimal position (there were many) but at the end of the day, she was just there for me. There for me when I thought I’d be having an unmedicated birth center birth. There for me when we had to have a c-section instead. And there for me after while I processed it all. She is amazing and I’d hire her again and again and again.

Ana is a blessing! We really needed help after our newborn was released from the NICU and we couldn’t have asked for a better lactation consultant. She is very warm and inviting, she helps you think and process all the different aspects of breastfeeding in a way that is digestible. I emailed her in between appointments when we were having some issues and she responded quickly and is a great brainstorming partner. She also answers all the random questions that we have as our little one gets into different phases. 100% would recommend she really does help you find your peace!

Courtney Moore Rodriguez

Courtney Moore Rodriguez

13 years of experience

My name is Courtney Moore Rodriguez. I am a certified lactation educator (CLE), certified postpartum doula (CPD), and certified infant and family sleep specialist (IFSS). I am here to support your family in person (within the Denver metro area) and/or virtually…from the time you find out you’re expecting, through your baby’s first birthday. In those first few weeks and months, it can be hard to ask for help. I am a strong believer in helping families to help themselves (with a good amount of time for rest and self care thrown in too). Rather than taking care of your baby for you, I make sure that you have the skills, knowledge, and rest to do it on your own. I assist families in a non-judgmental fashion and always strive to meet you where you are. I am up to date on the latest research regarding infant feeding, sleep, and newborn care, and can give you non-biased information so that you can make informed choices that work for your family.

Courtney is so wonderful!! We worked with her as a postpartum doula as first time parents. Before baby came, thought we’d work with her for a few weeks…..nine months later I still rely on Courtney as an extremely trusted resource and for support when we need it. She shaped our parenting experience in those first few weeks and months so much for the better that I have so much gratitude for her patience, knowledge, emotional support and calming presence. Courtney provided amazing, loving care to our baby and taught my husband and I really everything at the beginning as we had no experience with babies! It was such peace of mind knowing I could ask Courtney anything and not rely on the rabbit hole of google or social media. She helped us through so many challenges during such an emotional time and helped with all kinds of things to make our lives easier. Months later we still turned to Courtney for help on baby sleep, eating and also for my breastfeeding journey. I would never have even started my breastfeeding journey, never mind made it to ten months, without her. I am beyond grateful we found Courtney to work with and recommend anyone to work with her!
