Lacey Ortiz

Hey! I’m Lacey and if I’m not gardening, crafting, or homeschooling my children, I’m obsessing with all things birth and postpartum. It all started when I was pregnant with my first, but I quickly became overwhelmed and scared with all the thoughts of how I was handling pregnancy, constantly hearing daunting labor stories, and also being baffled with the notion of breastfeeding and caring for my new yet changing body. I graciously had my family and friends for an amazing support system (which included some mouth watering meals by the way), but if I had an expert in the field I know I would have experienced less pain and anxiety. By the time I was pregnant with my second, I had a few goals in mind. They were to have a natural unmediated birth, to have a more positive breastfeeding journey, give myself grace, and become a doula to help YOU, but only IF I could successfully complete the prior three goals. Well, they all happened! And shortly after my second child had his first birthday, I became a certified birth doula and a couple years later I completed my postpartum training to become what we call a full spectrum doula. I’v attended countless births in all places and have supported women through homebirth, natural, medicated, cesarean, and Christian faith-based births. So if your a super crunchy granola type of girl or a silky satin lady there’s no judgment and I support it all. Now, sit back and rest assured that I am here for you 24/7. For the 2am questions through the 5am water breaking. For all the breastfeeding troubles and to reassure you that YES all the hair you are loosing during postpartum will grow back! I would be honored to be a part of this incredible time in your life. Education and Qualifications Bachelor in Biology and Minors in Psychology and Philosophy from LeMoyne College. May 2012 Doula Certification through New Beginnings Doula Training. November 2021 Infant/Child CPR through National CPR Foundation February 2025 Currently pursuing Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) certification through Healthy Children Project,Inc Center for Breastfeeding. I am so grateful that we found Lacey! She was an integral part of my pregnancy journey. Lacey worked with us to create a custom package that made sense for our needs. I loved her calming and holistic approach; she is truly dedicated and knowledgeable in her field. My birth plan changed in the last few weeks of pregnancy due to my baby being breech and I ended up needing a c-section. Lacey was such a huge support in easing my anxiety as this plan threw me for a loop! During my c-section, Lacey was present in the OR and helped to keep me calm while my husband was with our baby at the warming station. Also, she took incredible birth photos of such intimate moments that I wouldn't have had without her. After my birth, she came to our home 2x to help with lactation and she really provided me with the confidence I needed as I began this journey of motherhood. She also provided me with 2 homemade essential oil rollers that I used daily! Even though our time is officially over, I know I could reach out to her with any questions if I needed support. I truly couldn't recommend Lacey more. I cannot imagine my birth story without her. Thank you, Lacey, for all you've done for us!

We hired Nadine as our doula after feeling that we needed more support through the pregnancy and birthing process. Nadine was amazing - supportive, experienced and knowledgeable. She provided us with lots of resources, answered all our questions and when it came to the birth, remained calm and provided reassurance when things didn’t go to plan. She also provided invaluable support post birth. I firmly believe that everyone should hire a doula and if you are very lucky, you will find one as great at Nadine.

Hello! My name is Lauren, the hands on and heart led birth and postpartum doula in Durham Region. I'm also a big homebody who loves to read, craft my own tea blends, make natural skincare products and candles, and spend time in nature as much as possible. Becoming a doula felt like stepping into a path that was already laid out for me. I have always felt a fierce protection for other women, and connected easily and deeply with the women in my life. Combined with my interest in herbal healing and natural remedies, my previous work with and love for children and babies, my need to feed everyone I love home cooked, nourishing meals, and my interest in birth & the medical system, I realized that I already was a doula, I just needed to take the leap onto the path.   Early in 2025, I completed a 10 day doula training retreat in Costa Rica, which was a beautiful way to begin my new career. In the past couple of years I have been amazed by the women I work with, the births I have experienced by their sides, and the cocoon of postpartum. I love this work! I believe that birth and postpartum are some of the most transformational and impactful moments of a woman’s life, and they deserve to be positive experiences. Feeling cared for, understood, nourished, and supported are essential in the journey from Maiden, to Mother (and from mother of one, to two, to three…).  If you’re looking for a doula you want to feel cared for by, someone you feel comfortable texting “is this my mucous plug?,” and someone who knows how important the little details are and takes care of them so you don’t have to (like LED candles at your birth and a warm cup of tea postpartum), then hello! Now, Id love to get to know you.

Lauren is an experienced birthing rockstar. She went above and beyond for myself and our family. During a winter storm, a last min VBAC and she was there within an hour, no questions asked. Lauren is the best doula I know and I look up to her as a human.

Hi! I’m Jill, owner of Birth Blessings Doula Services, LLC. My interest in becoming a doula started with my first pregnancy and birth journey. I was 29 years old when I became pregnant with my first child, and I quickly realized how much I LOVED everything relating to pregnancy and childbirth. My birth didn’t go as “planned” and my first baby was born via cesarean. As amazing and supportive as my husband was, looking back I realized how helpful it would have been, for both of us, to have non-hospital staff to guide us through our labor and delivery. Someone that would answer questions, help us know our choices in a non-biased manner, remind us of our plan when we needed reminding, and to offer emotional support when our plan took a detour. I knew that someday I wanted to work with pregnant women and families to help in that way. Fast-forward 16 years, four VBACs, and one miscarriage and here I am: fulfilling the calling the Lord placed on my life by becoming a certified doula supporting other mamas! Being a doula isn’t just my job, but my passion! I enjoy learning about all things pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. I am always on the lookout for new training and certifications to expand my knowledge and allow me to better help my clients. It is an honor to work with families in the most miraculous times in their lives. As a birth doula, my goal is to help you feel supported (physically, emotionally, and educationally) and empowered so you can make the best decisions for you and your baby. Having five children, I know firsthand the ups and downs of the postpartum period. As a postpartum doula, I will be there to “lighten your load” while your household adjusts to the wonderful addition of having a new baby. I truly enjoy providing warm, professional support for pregnant women and their families.

After finding out I was pregnant and wanting to be very intentional/confident for what the first 9 months were going to involve, I was fortunate to recieve information through the library about a doula who worked in my area. Elated to have found someone, I reached out to Jill. I met with both Jill and Elizabeth and got to learn more about what exactly a doula is and how they help a mother and her baby (while also honoring and educating the fathers walking this journey as well). First thing was that I saw was not only were these women so incredibly knowledgeable about pregnancy, labor, delivery, breastfeeding, postpartum, ect. they also deeply cared about their clients and look to find ways that ensure safety, trust, and joy throughout the mother's journey-always in the mother's corner. I appreciated all of the information they had and knew my husband would have more comfort moving forward with more education surrounding pregnancy and child birth. Through my pregnancy and labor, I went through really intense pain and had to pivot from what I originally wanted as my "labor and delivery wish". But both Jill and Elizabeth were there with us every step of the way and so encouraging and supportive through it all. Also stepping in at the hospital to ensure that I was as comfortable as I could be, making sure there were no students coming in, making sure I worked with women only, and that my care would be through someone who has done delivery before-things I would have never thought to have asked for in the midst of a very intense labor! But my son arrived after a very long labor, these women not leaving my side, and it was the best day of my life knowing how much work went into getting him here. I will forever be grateful for these two women and the care they gave us, alongside struggles with postpartum and being new (and exhausted) first time parents, to make sure that we felt supported as a new family through it all. I would HIGHLY recommend Birth Blessings Doula for any mama who is looking for sincere care and support in her decision for the birth that she wants.

Hi, I’m Tisa. I am a certified labour and Postpartum Doula and proud mom of six beautiful children. I consider myself to be a compassionate person who strives to help you and your family navigate this new exciting chapter of your lives. I strongly believe it is my mission to help you have not only a positive postpartum journey but to help better assist and equip you with all the right tools for success. My passion for birth work began 20 years ago after the birth of my eldest son. Due to a series of events that could have very well crippled me only made me stronger. I was very fortunate to find access to many great regional programs and I met someone who not only poured wisdom into me at a young age but believed I could do great things in this field of work. I will never let my birth trauma define me, rather it has shaped me into who I am today. I am dedicated to providing assistance, support and spreading the message that you are not alone. My role as your doula is to provide continuous emotional, physical, and informational support. I am committed to empowering you to make informed decisions. The Postpartum stage isn't a race, it's about picking up the little pieces we may lose along the way. When I am not attending a birth or working overnight postpartum shifts, you can most likely find me in the comfort of my home surrounded by my family. My house is filled with laughter, playful banter, persistent chirps from my Lovebirds and Conure, yapping can be heard from the family Pomeranian; Mochi. I enjoy worship nights held by my church, reading webtoons, soaking up k-dramas and building miniature wooden puzzles and book-nooks.

Being a doula isn’t a job, it’s a privilege! I am honored to be able to assist families in some of the most transformative times in their lives. My approach when working with women and their families is to offer education and encouragement, which in turn helps them to feel confident as they approach and experience their baby’s birth. I provide evidence-based information and listen to what matters to my clients, and then we work together toward achieving their goals. Throughout pregnancy and especially during labor, I provide consistent, calm reassurance and guidance. I began my doula career in 2012 through DONA International and I am a Birth Beautifully Certified Birth Doula, Birth Beautifully Certified Childbirth Educator, and Birth Beautifully Birth Doula Trainer. I am also a Certified VBAC Doula through the VBAC Link, and I am a Certified Postpartum Doula through the Midwifery Institute. With a wide variety of doula experience — including medicated and unmedicated labors, spontaneous and induced labors, hospital birth and homebirth — my knowledge and understanding is put to use to help reduce my clients’ anxiety and increase their confidence. I have a special place in my heart for women suffering with Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG) during their pregnancies, as I myself have dealt with it five times. I believe the best pregnancies, births, and postpartum experiences happen when women and their families feel supported, and I would be honored to do that for your family.
