What's the Cost of Hiring a Midwife in Dayton, OH?

The cost of a midwife in Dayton, OH, can vary depending on the type of care, location, and services provided. On average, midwifery services for prenatal care, delivery, and postpartum care may range from $2,000 to $6,000 for those paying out of pocket. Some midwives offer home birth services, which may be on the lower end of the spectrum, while services at a birthing center or hospital can cost more. Health insurance may cover part or all of the costs, so it’s important to check with your provider. For the most accurate information, contact local midwifery practices directly to inquire about their pricing and payment options.

The cost of a midwife in Dayton, OH can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Midwife

Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) who work in hospital settings may have different pricing than Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) who attend home births or birth center deliveries.

  • Birth Setting

Hospital births with a midwife typically cost less out-of-pocket when covered by insurance, while home births and birth center deliveries may have different fee structures.

  • Scope of Services

Many midwives offer comprehensive packages that include prenatal visits, labor and delivery support, and postpartum care, which can affect the overall cost.

  • Insurance Coverage

Whether insurance covers the cost of a midwife in Dayton, OH, depends on your specific insurance plan and the midwife's certifications. Many insurance plans, including Medicaid in Ohio, may cover midwifery services, particularly if the midwife is a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) and works within a hospital or birthing center. Some plans also cover home births with licensed midwives, but this varies. It's important to check directly with your insurance provider to confirm coverage, including in-network providers and any out-of-pocket costs. Additionally, the midwife's office may assist in verifying insurance benefits.

  • Experience and Specialization

Midwives with extensive experience, additional certifications, or specializations such as VBAC support or water birth may charge higher rates.

  • Geographic Location

Midwifery costs can vary based on the cost of living and demand for midwifery services in your specific area.

When considering hiring a midwife in Dayton, OH, it's advisable to research and interview several midwives to find one who aligns with your birth plan, preferences, and budget. During consultations, you can discuss their specific services, insurance acceptance, and pricing structure to ensure you have a clear understanding of what is included and the associated costs.

Lucy Perry

Hello there, I’m Lucy Weidig. I’m a certified birth doula, postpartum doula, and newborn care specialist, devoted to serving women physically, emotionally, and physically throughout their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experiences. I was born and raised in Michigan then relocated to Northern Kentucky in 2017. Besides being a doula, I love to learn about health, read fiction, go hiking, and do anything and everything with my amazing husband. Becoming a doula was never in my plans, but I have a passion for reproduction, babies, and all things women’s health which inspired me to take a doula training with ToLabor, an organization in Richmond, Virginia. My Christian Faith plays a huge role in who I am as a person as well as a doula, and I love incorporating this into the birth field. I can’t get enough of the amazing knowledge and potential around supporting and educating women in and around birth! I dream of experiencing birth for myself and raising my own family, hopefully within the next couple of years. Meanwhile I hope to support as many women as possible through this powerful, beautiful work!

Lucy did a fantastic job! She was able to press on some pressure points for me and helped me get through each contraction that way. It made a HUGE difference! She was also there for me in any little thing I needed and didn’t hesitate to meet me where I was at. She suggested different things for me to try and wasn’t too pushy or too laid back. I would 100% recommend her to anyone that is giving birth. Having a doula was so beneficial and Lucy was amazing at doing her work. 🥰

Payton Anderson

Payton Anderson

Hello!! My name is Payton Anderson. I’m a California native currently living in Ohio due to military life, and I’ve been married to my husband for three years after being together since our freshman year of high school. I’m 22 years old and have a deep passion for women’s health, birth, and lactation—work that truly feels like my calling. I am a trained birth doula who has completed my doula education and am currently working toward certification through DONA International. This certification requires attendance and documentation of three births from both myself and the families I support. Because of this, I am offering my birth doula services at a discounted rate while completing these requirements. While I may be early in my professional doula journey, I am confident, well-educated, and fully committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based, and continuous support throughout your labor and birth experience. In addition to birth support, I am also on the pathway to becoming an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant). This means I bring strong foundational and developing lactation knowledge into the birth space, allowing me to support early breastfeeding goals, comfort measures, and informed decision-making immediately after birth. I want to note that my services are specifically focused on birth doula support. At this time, I do not offer postpartum doula services, allowing me to dedicate my full attention to supporting you through pregnancy, labor, and birth. My goal is to create a calm, informed, and empowering birth experience where you feel supported, respected, and confident in your choices. It would be an honor to walk alongside you during such a meaningful moment in your life

HI. I’m Abbey, the other half of Kindred, a doula partnership I share with my amazing sister-in-law! I am a wife to my long-time boyfriend, a mother to two wild & free girls, a sister, a friend, a nurse, a small business owner, a musician, &, most recently & excitingly, a doula. I live in the rural greater Dayton area on a piece of land back a long lane, nestled against a wood of trees. It’s becoming my oasis, my resting place, our haven to grow and make memories. I am a lover of adventure and the term “settling down” or “forever home” has always terrified me, but the past few years of some intense grief and loss have taught me that a quiet space to grow into your own, to rest, is a gift and a privilege. I am grateful. My mothering tendency is becoming. With the birth of my first came the birth of my mama heart and a wonder beyond wonder. I surprised myself with the way this season was becoming my absolute best one yet. A cumulation of immense loss and grief, another pregnancy, and the birth of my second baby girl, was followed by a season of despair, as I can now call it looking back. A miscarriage followed and left me bare bones and not thriving. Today I find myself growing into who I am as a mama. I find great joy in watching my girls grow and become, great anxiety in the “what ifs” of their little lives, and am overstimulated way easier than I ever imagined possible. You’ll find us playing in the woods, splashing in water of some kind, taking trips to the library & coffee shop, making so many random breakfasts/lunches, meeting with friends, playing dress-up or make-believe of one kind of another, & soaking up the sunshine. When I’m not mumming, I’ll be reading, playing guitar, walking, working as a homecare nurse, having deep conversations with my guy, waxing nostalgic, drinking black coffee or red wine, & eating fruit of some kind, or recently more than ever, sitting & staring to find some mental rest (anyone else?). It’s so good to meet you here. I am so honored to be entering this sacred space of pregnancy, birth, & womanhood, & am looking forward to getting to know you. We’re here for it all, and want more than anything for this to become a “soft space to land”. I pursued my birth doula and lactation support training with a DONA certified doula, and am now pursuing certification myself. I am also a RN-BSN. Although I am not operating from this title while in the birth doula space, I do bring this background and experience.

Alicia is an incredible Doula! At my first few OB appointments I was unhappy with my experiences, and I felt a great mistrust with my OB doctors. As a first-time expectant mother, I knew I needed an advocate who would bridge the gap between a traditional hospital birth and having an empowering spiritual birthing experience. After first meeting Alicia I felt so empowered! I knew birth does not always go according to plan, but I knew she was going to do everything to help me achieve the birthing experience I wanted. I was so impressed by how much she educated both me and my husband. When I was in labor all this education really helped. As I was laboring at home I hit a wall, and Alicia came over at 3am and helped to keep me mentally strong and progressing through labor. Even though it was the middle of the night she showed up with energy and encouragement. At the hospital she advocated for me to be on wireless monitoring and to use a squat bar and stability ball. When it came time to push, she supported me in remaining side-lying when the OB wanted me to flip to my back. Alicia used her knowledge throughout my labor to suggest laboring positions and provide pain easing techniques to help me have the unmedicated birth I wanted. Without her help, I know having this birthing experience would not have been possible. She kept the spiritual part in our birth and prayed with us throughout our labor. Because of Alicia, the birth of our daughter brought me and my husband closer, and I love the way he beams with pride when he tells people about our daughter’s birth. This is truly Alicia’s calling in life, and having her as a doula was truly a blessing. Brittany S
