Dr. Gass felt she was unprepared for initiating breastfeeding, pumping while the baby was in the NICU, and maintaining a strong milk supply. These struggles propelled her to learn more about lactation and become a lactation care provider, as a certified lactation counselor through the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice.
