Dr. Heather (Chana) Gass holds a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology and has been involved in research and education for over a decade. When she was expecting her first child she knew she wanted to strictly breastfeed. After a traumatic birth her baby was taken to the NICU, and a challenging nursing journey began. Dr. Gass felt she was unprepared for initiating breastfeeding, pumping while the baby was in the NICU, and maintaining a strong milk supply. These struggles propelled her to learn more about lactation and become a lactation care provider, as a certified lactation counselor through the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice.
