Chrissy Dougan

10 years of experience

Chrissy is the owner of Northwest PA Doulas, LLC, where she works as a Family Care Coordinator, Labor & Birth Doula, Postpartum Doula, and Certified Childbirth Educator. As a childbirth and newborn expert, Chrissy provides around-the-clock support to growing families. She begins during pregnancy, continues into the labor and delivery room, and then joins families in their home during the postpartum period. Chrissy began her career volunteering as an accredited La Leche League Leader, where she has been actively encouraging breastfeeding families in Erie since 2014. She previously served the community as Secretary of the Lake Erie Breastfeeding Coalition where she joined other lactation professionals to shine a positive light on breastfeeding. She offers her enthusiasm and passion for "all things birth and baby" to help families achieve their goals with confidence. Valuing mental health advocacy, she has co-coordinated Erie's annual Climb Out of the Darkness 5k event since 2018. This event raises funds and awareness for Maternal Mental Illnesses including postpartum depression and anxiety. Proceeds from this event have provided postpartum doula services to several local families: compassionate support so parents can heal and bond with their babies without neglecting their own needs. Chrissy enjoys attending conferences and workshops year round to keep up-to-date with the most current, evidence-based information available. She resides in Harborcreek with her loving husband and their two sons where she enjoys hiking, biking, attending concerts, and singing.

When I first met with my doula team, I felt an instant connection with Colleen. I felt so supported throughout my pregnancy and Colleen was always responsive, remembering my appointments and asking how they went. It always felt like she enjoyed chatting and keeping up, and she was also pregnant so we could relate! The morning I went into labor, Colleen was the doula on call, and she came around 6 am when my contractions were picking up. She set out some beautiful affirmations for me as I rocked on the ball, and she also suggested some snack ideas so I could get some food in. She remembered my birth plan and that I wanted to get to the hospital with a little bit more time than my last, and calmly used her expertise to notice cues that my labor was progressing and suggested that we head in. She supported me through contractions at the hospital with back pressure, affirmations, and encouragement. It was so helpful to just know someone else was there who knew my plan and desires and supported it all along the way so my husband could focus on my needs in the moment. When it was time for the baby to come, Colleen offered to take photos and let my mom step in and be right up front in the action. I’ll treasure the footage she got forever. I also appreciate that she supported after the birth for a few hours and helped refill my water, take photos, etc. Her follow up after was a bright spot in the postpartum period. Two years later I’ve moved away, and we still check in here and there and keep up with each other. I would absolutely recommend working with Colleen and the entire Northwest PA Doulas team.

I could write a navel about the wonderful care that I received from Danika but I will try to keep it short and sweet. I learned about her care through a client of mine and I knew right away that it was a perfect fit for me over traditional obstetric care. I can't even put into words how amazing it was to have my appointments in the comfort of my own home. Having a provider that listened to, supported, and respected my wants and wishes gave me so much confidence to trust my body. Although my son had his own plans for his delivery, Danika never left my side and continued to advocate for me which I will forever be grateful for!

Danika was the most amazing midwife I could have ever asked for. She’s is so attentive and respectful, taking the time at each appointment to answer all our questions and concerns (as first time parents), never making us feel rushed or dismissed, and respecting our beliefs and wishes while also giving us all the information to help us make well informed decisions. She made us feel so comfortable and safe going through with an at home birth and was the most amazing support throughout my 22 hour labor. She was with us from the start of labor to provide support, routine checkups, positioning and location recommendations and was extremely knowledgeable throughout it all. Not to mention how she stayed for a long time after the birth for baby checkups and make sure we were settled. Her aftercare visits and ongoing support and communication following the birth were invaluable. I would recommend her to anyone doing an at home birth or who wants additional support and advocacy at the hospital.
