What's the Cost of Hiring a Midwife in Goldsboro, NC?

In Goldsboro, NC, a midwife typically costs about $2,000 to $6,000 for prenatal care, labor and delivery, and postpartum care for a home birth or birth center birth, while certified nurse-midwife services for a hospital birth may be billed similarly to obstetric care and can range from roughly $3,000 to $9,000 before insurance; actual out-of-pocket costs depend heavily on insurance coverage, whether the provider is in network, and whether you need additional hospital, lab, or anesthesia services.

The cost of a midwife in Goldsboro, NC can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Midwife

Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) who work in hospital settings may have different pricing than Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) who attend home births or birth center deliveries.

  • Birth Setting

Hospital births with a midwife typically cost less out-of-pocket when covered by insurance, while home births and birth center deliveries may have different fee structures.

  • Scope of Services

Many midwives offer comprehensive packages that include prenatal visits, labor and delivery support, and postpartum care, which can affect the overall cost.

  • Insurance Coverage

In Goldsboro, NC, insurance often covers some or all of the cost of a midwife, but coverage depends on your specific plan, whether the midwife is licensed and in network, and whether the birth is planned at a hospital, birth center, or at home. Most Medicaid plans and many private insurance plans cover certified nurse-midwives for prenatal care, labor and delivery, and postpartum care, while coverage for certified professional midwives or home birth midwives is less consistent and may be limited or excluded. If covered, your out-of-pocket cost may range from little to several thousand dollars depending on deductibles, copays, and coinsurance; without insurance, midwifery care commonly costs about $2,000 to $6,000 for prenatal, delivery, and postpartum services, with home birth and birth center packages often falling in that range and hospital-based care sometimes billed separately.

  • Experience and Specialization

Midwives with extensive experience, additional certifications, or specializations such as VBAC support or water birth may charge higher rates.

  • Geographic Location

Midwifery costs can vary based on the cost of living and demand for midwifery services in your specific area.

When considering hiring a midwife in Goldsboro, NC, it's advisable to research and interview several midwives to find one who aligns with your birth plan, preferences, and budget. During consultations, you can discuss their specific services, insurance acceptance, and pricing structure to ensure you have a clear understanding of what is included and the associated costs.

*I accept Medicaid* I'm a christian mom of 6. I have been very involved in doula work here in Eastern NC since 2022. I began working towards becoming a doula in 2020. I care about how moms are treated in labor and understand the importance of my role, to help improve birth outcomes and overall experiences. I love teaching and have an established method of preparing you for birth with my client portal for resources and handouts, slideshow classes, and in person partner involvement.

It is in highest regards that I recommend Rebecca. She helped us feel educated, well practiced, and prepared to have the most comfortable and natural hospital birth possible. She was there with us through every part of the labor. Her experience with breathing techniques, birthing positions, and putting pressure when needed helped me to feel cared for and my husband to feel empowered and a part. She made our birth process a team effort in the most beautiful ways. I appreciated her bringing tools I wouldn’t have thought of to the birth, my favorite being the birth comb. Her subtle reminders to change position or just to read my needs without me asking were such a blessing. Our birth ended differently & much longer than we had planned, but every moment was so worth it to meet our precious baby, grateful to have had Rebecca there through it all. She advocated for us and helped us make the best decisions each steps and we are forever grateful. A doula is a must; and a great doula, aka Rebecca, is the best choice you’ll make.

Hi, I’m Sai, a birth and postpartum doula, infant care specialist, and mom of four. My journey into this work began through my own lived experience with postpartum depression and anxiety, which opened my eyes to how deeply parents need support during pregnancy, birth, and the transition into parenthood, and how often they’re expected to navigate it alone. For over five years, I’ve supported families through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period with compassionate, nonjudgmental, and evidence-based care. As a birth doula, I provide emotional support, education, advocacy, comfort measures, and a calming presence throughout labor and delivery, helping families feel informed, empowered, and supported every step of the way. My postpartum work focuses on newborn care, recovery support, feeding guidance, and helping parents adjust with confidence during those early weeks at home. Before becoming a doula, I spent more than 15 years working with children as a special education teacher assistant and childcare supervisor, which gave me a strong foundation in infant development, family-centered care, and supporting children with diverse needs. I’m especially passionate about maternal mental health, birth equity, and ensuring that every parent, regardless of background, has access to respectful, nurturing care throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Being part of BornBir feels like a natural extension of my mission, and I’m grateful to grow within a community that centers families, advocacy, and healing.

Bridgette was so incredible to have on my team during labor and delivery. She was responsive to calls and texts throughout the day, and when she showed up to my room at the hospital she brought such an incredible energy. My baby’s birth didn’t go according to plan, but Bridgette was with me when I had to make difficult decisions and I am so grateful. The hospital staff loved her as well! Bridgette was so helpful after L&D; she called and FaceTimed my husband and I multiple times to check in, answering lots of questions that we had. I highly recommend Bridgette to anyone that wants a genuinely positive and helpful teammate in their corner as they bring new life into this world.

As a Doula, my goal is to help my clients experience the birth of their dreams. My training is body-centric and focused on optimizing fetal positioning for a more comfortable pregnancy, smoother delivery, and better postpartum recovery. I am hands on and often provide comforting touch and release work. As a Fertility Educator I support clients who want to better understand their menstrual cycle to either avoid or achieve pregnancy through private, virtual classes.

We worked with Tara during my pregnancy and postpartum period, and she has been absolutely wonderful. Although I ultimately gave birth out of state, Tara provided invaluable support before and after the birth. She is incredibly knowledgeable about both the birth process and the postpartum period for mom and baby. Just as importantly, she brings a very warm, calm, and reassuring presence. During one of the most vulnerable and intense periods of life as a new family, Tara consistently showed up as a steady, thoughtful guide. She was generous with her time, answered our many questions patiently and with expertise, and helped us feel more confident navigating the early weeks with our newborn. Every visit left us feeling more supported and grounded. I would wholeheartedly recommend Tara to any family looking for a knowledgeable, compassionate, and dependable doula.

Hey there! My name is Naomi Carrington. I am a Certified Birth and Postpartum doula, Breastfeeding Counselor and Childbirth Educator in Louisburg, serving the greater Raleigh Triangle area. I'm passionate about childbirth, mamas, and babies, and I've dedicated my life to helping families experience a birth and postpartum beyond their expectations. Birth does not have to be seen as a fearful thing, but something women were designed for. Living overseas has helped to shape who I am today and the services I offer. Over the past few years I have mainly attended home births which is my 'happy place'. But no matter where you plan to deliver, I guide my clients in preparing both their minds and bodies for labor and offer full informed support of their choices. A few things that I impart to families are: education, the importance of body balancing, whole food diet and mental preparedness. Knowledge is power and a big part of what I do. Over the years, I have attended over 70 births and taught several classes. In my free time you can find me reading, working out, enjoying an iced coffee, working in the garden, with our many animals or cooking in the kitchen. I am from a big family and love making memories with them! I'd love to connect and discuss how we can meet your goals for your dream birth, postpartum or class experience!

Working with Naomi helped us achieve a birth experience we prayed and dreamed about. With something so uncertain and out of our control, Naomi helped us prepare mentally and physically as first time parents. We started by taking her child birth class and learned so much. By working with her as our doula from early on, we were able to utilize her many resources and knowledge to improve my pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience. We were really thankful to have her at our natural, unmedicated hospital birth. Her support helped us confidently advocate for our birth plan and achieve a pleasant birth experience. She was hands on and jumped right in, knowing exactly what I wanted and needed. Having her support postpartum was also beneficial at such a vulnerable time. Hiring Naomi was a great investment and we will hire her again for any future pregnancy.
