Hi there! My name is Kara Edwards, I am a Certified Birth and Postpartum Doula in Modesto, CA. I also hold the title of Certified Holistic Nutrition Consultant from Bauman College and incorporate these skills into my work as a doula. It is so important that women feel nourished, healthy, and are well fed before, during, and after their pregnancy! As a doula, I hope to help my clients feel safe and empowered through thorough prenatal education and relaxation practices that they can take with them into their birth experience and beyond. My truest passion is postpartum work. Witnessing and supporting a family become their newest version is such an honor. The postpartum right of passage deserves to be respected, held, and deeply nourished- and providing that as a postpartum doula is nothing short of magical.

Birth Doula Support

-Three prenatal appointments where we will go over your birth vision in detail, previous experiences and excitements, what to expect during labor, practice comfort measures for labor, explore relaxation techniques. -Our third meeting before your birth will be a pamper session of loving-care from my hands & heart to your body & soul. Centered in releasing fears, relaxation, and further preparing you for the portal you are about to walk through. -Since I am a certified nutritionist, you also have access to in-depth evidence based nutrition education for pregnancy and postpartum. If you would like to dive even deeper, my counselling services are offered at a significant discount for doula clients. -Check-in phone calls throughout your pregnancy to help you navigate your care & ensure you are feeling supported -24/7 phone/email support during pregnancy to answer questions and access to my labor, birth and postpartum preparation material On call for the birth starting at week 37 -In person (or virtual) support at your birth, offering hands on comfort techniques, massage, prioritizing and communicating your birth preferences and words of empowering encouragement. -Two postpartum visits within the first two weeks after birth with a special postpartum gift package Continuous phone/email support during the two weeks after birth -Most importantly, unbiased support for you and your birth vision.

Postpartum Support

This healing support after birth includes herbal remedies, gentle massage, and nourishing homecooked meals; education on newborn care, lactation and sleep; light housekeeping; infant care so the parent(s) can get much needed rest; sharing resources; and most of all supporting the birth of the new family constellation.

Placenta Encapsulation

-Pick-up of placenta and delivery of capsules within 20 miles of Modesto - Preparation of your placenta with love, care, and safety within 48hr after birth*. - 100-200 capsules (depending on placenta size) - An umbilical cord keepsake - A colorful, artistic print of your placenta to honor it's role in growing your baby, forever.

What to expect

As a birth and postpartum doula, my main goal is that you feel connected to yourself, your baby and your truth as you navigate this new chapter. Prenatally, we will meet multiple times for childbirth education, learning relaxation tools, and postpartum preparation. At your birth, I will be by your side and offering words of comfort, hands on support, and guidance to you and your birth team. Postpartum, nurturing you and your new family structure is my greatest honor! This looks like newborn education, feeding support, light household tasks, light meal prep, and lots of loving words of support and gentle bodywork to help you with this transition.
