Layla Ulam
About me
I attended my first birth more than 25 years ago and very soon after began actively pursuing birthwork, trading off between midwifery apprenticeships and serving independently as a doula. Given my background, I'm a strong believer in individual family autonomy, true informed consent, and holistic continuity of care that includes extensive postpartum attention. I'm also quite the baby whisperer, even while they're still in the belly. In my free time, I enjoy gardening, cooking, going on long walks, and taking even longer naps. I'm best known for my authenticity, tenacity, quick wit, and contagious laugh.

We had the pleasure of working with Layla for postpartum support after our first baby was born, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Layla is incredibly kind, patient, and reliable, and she cared for our newborn with genuine warmth and attentiveness. Her presence brought a sense of calm to our home during a time of huge transition. An added plus—Layla is registered through Carrot, which meant her services were fully covered through my partner’s employee benefits. This made accessing excellent care not only possible but easy. Thank you, Layla, for everything!

We worked with Layla for postpartum care and had an amazing experience. She’s kind, dependable, and gave our newborn the best care we could have hoped for. She also happens to be Carrot-registered, so her time with us was fully covered by our benefits. Highly recommend her to any new parents looking for a calm, capable, and caring doula!

Layla was such a lifesaver during our first few weeks with a newborn. She's warm, patient, and incredibly good with babies--and also with tired parents! She showed up consistently, helped in thoughtful ways, and brought so much calm into our home. Even better, she's registered through Carrot, which meant her care was 100% covered through my partner's benefits. If you're looking for postpartum support that truly makes a difference, Layla is the one to call.

We had a wonderful experience working with Layla for postpartum care after the birth of our first child. From the start, Layla was kind, patient, and incredibly supportive—exactly what we needed during those early weeks. She consistently provided excellent care for our little one and brought a calming presence into our home. Layla was also punctual, helpful, and thoughtful in all her interactions. An added bonus was that Layla is registered with Carrot, which made things even smoother for our family since her services were fully covered through my partner’s employer benefits. We’re so grateful for her care and support. Thank you, Layla!

Working with Layla after the birth of our first children (twins), was the best decision we ever made. Her kindness and patience with babies (and nervous first time mommies) helped maintain sanity in our home. Layla's positivity, non-judgement and willingness to step in wherever we needed her helped us keep our home, and ourselves, in order so we could really enjoy bonding with our new babies. Five years later, after our second birth, Layla was back to reconnect with our twins, bond with our new baby and help wherever she was needed. With her many years of experience and education, she's certainly a professional, and I respect her as such. But to me and my family, she has earned the title of badass baby whisperer!

How does one adequately sum up the care that Layla gave us throughout our birthing experience? In short, out of 5 stars, we’d have given her 10. Not only was Layla was an integral part of making our home~birth experience as beautiful, smooth, and transformative as it was, she also helped us connect & network within the home~birthing community and gave us phenomenal postpartum care afterward. She went above & beyond to make me placenta pills and was available for any & all questions we had pertaining to breastfeeding & healing afterward.

We worked with Layla at Love.Our.Mothers doula care twice. The first time was with our first pregnancy, TWINS! Things were quite crazy, but Layla swooped in with her kindness and patience with babies and helped keep things sane in our home. With her many years of experience and education I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for postpartum care in Eugene or the surrounding area.
