The cost of a midwife in Layton, UT can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Midwife

Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) who work in hospital settings may have different pricing than Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) who attend home births or birth center deliveries.

  • Birth Setting

Hospital births with a midwife typically cost less out-of-pocket when covered by insurance, while home births and birth center deliveries may have different fee structures.

  • Scope of Services

Many midwives offer comprehensive packages that include prenatal visits, labor and delivery support, and postpartum care, which can affect the overall cost.

  • Insurance Coverage

Utah Medicaid covers certified nurse-midwife care because federal rules require every state Medicaid program to include these services. This coverage applies to CNM-led prenatal care, delivery, and postpartum visits. Coverage for licensed or certified professional midwives at home or birth centers depends on the Medicaid plan and does not extend to every member; around Layton, eight midwives are listed within 60 miles, reflecting a modest local market. Private insurance benefits also vary by policy, so review your plan’s network and maternity coverage.

  • Experience and Specialization

Midwives with extensive experience, additional certifications, or specializations such as VBAC support or water birth may charge higher rates.

  • Geographic Location

Midwifery costs can vary based on the cost of living and demand for midwifery services in your specific area.

Lindsay Dougal

10 years of experience
Packages from $1,250

Hello! My name is Lindsay. I'm a certified birth and traditional postpartum doula in Utah County and have been supporting families since 2017. I believe pregnancy, birth, and new parenthood are physical events, and also deeply emotional and spiritual ones—a great becoming. Because of this, my work is mother-centered, and blanketed in ritual and ceremony. You deserve to be held and witnessed. When I'm not working with postpartum families, you'll find me spending time with my three children, dreaming about traveling the world, and singing and knitting with my community.

We’ve been lucky to have Lindsay as our birth doula for all three of our kids, and most recently as a postpartum doula. I had a hard time understanding why I’d want a postpartum doula with my first two births, but I’m SO glad I went for it this time around! Having Lindsay come over was a highlight of those first few weeks. She came with her arms full of food, teas, cozy cushions, sound bath instruments, etc. Each week she’d bring food that I picked from the menu (all of it was so delicious and nourishing), and would guide me thru whatever session I had chosen (sound bath, gentle movement/stretching, guided meditation, closing of the bones ceremony). She has a very calming energy about her and I just feel at peace when she’s around. She helped around the house while she was here like washing the dishes, sorting and folding laundry, things that pile up in the busy-ness of having a newborn. She is truly a delight to work with and I’m forever grateful that she was here for us during the most important events of our lives.

Elizabeth Borghetti

6 years of experience

Hello, my name is Bizza and I am a birth and postpartum doula located in Salt Lake City, Utah. I am so passionate about birth and empowering birthing people with support and knowledge so they are fully equipped for whatever childbirth brings their way. My background is all things babies, from being a professional nanny to doula work, to being an Auntie to so many children. Knowledge is power and there are so many unknowns in childbirth. It is my joy and desire to equip birthing people with enough knowledge and support that when the unknowns come up, and they will, you are not blindsided. Rather, you are able to make educate, informed decisions. In my free time I enjoy reading, tending to my plants, baking, and gaming with my friends.

Elizabeth was an incredible support during both my birth and postpartum experience with my third baby. During labor, she was constantly by my side—rubbing my back, helping me stay comfortable, and bringing such a calm, reassuring presence. After birth, she even made sure I had a clean, dry bra, which felt like such a small but deeply thoughtful act of care in that moment. Postpartum, Elizabeth was truly invaluable. I was healing from a sprained pelvis and could barely walk after birth, and she stepped in seamlessly to support our entire family. She took wonderful care of my two older children—getting them snacks, playing with them, and making sure they felt safe and loved. I always knew they were in great hands. She also made sure I was fed and hydrated, snuggled my newborn when I needed time to connect with my older kids, and supported me with so much kindness and attentiveness. Elizabeth went above and beyond, and I am so grateful for her care. I couldn’t recommend her more highly to any family looking for a compassionate, dependable birth and postpartum doula.
