Hey everyone, my name is Liyah Brown I am a certified Birth Doula, Postpartum Doula, and Lactation consultant located in Saginaw, Michigan. I am a first time mom so I am learning little by little as well with my potential clients. From the moment you find out you're pregnant to the moment you deliver are very vulnerable times and every woman deserves a beautiful birth to remember. As a doula all I want is to be there for you and treat you with the care you deserve. I became a doula because every woman deserves to be heard and treated with the upmost respect during laboring. Every mother should have a calm and peaceful experience.

My goal as your doula is to provide you physical, emotional, and informational support to the mother and support person at the time of birth or even during the postpartum period. Me being a first time mom myself I troubled with a lot of the unknown and anxiety that caused me to be terrified of birth! So I am here to advocate, care, and provide you with resources to get you through your pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum as beautifully as possible! During your postpartum experience I hope to make this transition for you whether you're a new mom or a current mom as easy as possible and to take most of the things that you feel has you overwhelmed off of your plate.

What is the difference between a midwife and a doula?
A midwife and doula have distinctly separate roles in their support of your birth.
Midwives are able to attend both home births, birthing center births, and hospital births, and are responsible for the health of you and your child prenatally and during childbirth.
How is a doula different from a labor and delivery nurse or partner and spouse?
The most important thing a woman needs during labor is continuous support. This means that you have someone by your side continuously from start to finish. A doula rarely leaves your side. Nurses have many other responsibilities other than you. Aside from helping care for you, the nurse is communicating with your care provider, taking care of other patients, documenting care, taking breaks, and taking care of other responsibilities. A nurse’s support ends when her shift does. The doula only has one obligation the whole time she is with you—and that is YOU! Partners and doulas can work together to make a support team for the mother. Sometimes people think that they don’t need a doula because their partner will be with them continuously throughout labor. Your partner is an essential support person for you to have by your side. However, your partner will need to eat, sleep, and use the bathroom at times. Also, most partners have limited knowledge about birth, medical procedures, or what goes on in birth. Doulas and partners can work together to make up a labor support team.
