Hi, I'm Amanda Souza, a DONA-trained birth and postpartum doula based in Rochester, NY and the founder of Alma Sprout. Before becoming a doula I spent years as a professional nanny, so I bring real hands-on newborn experience into everything I do. I work with all kinds of families — I speak English and Portuguese, and I offer inclusive, affirming care for everyone. I offer birth support, daytime and overnight postpartum care, and newborn sleep guidance virtually across the US.

I am a trained birth + postpartum doula. I am also a lactation counselor and health educator originally from NJ, via NYC! I am new to the Rochester Area—I've been primarily a lactation counselor and postpartum doula since 2020, and first got trained with Ancient Song Doula Services in 2018. I attended my first birth in 2018 after 3+ years of health education. My family is from the Dominican Republic, I am fluent in Spanish, and conversational in French after 14 years of studying and understand Brazilian Portuguese a fair amount! I have dedicated my life to birth education and doula work, and hope to one day be a nurse midwife. I have a public health degree, a food handlers license and am about to renew my liability insurance which covers all but home births. I am LGBT competent and have assisted primarily single parents both by choice and by circumstance. I hope to end the birth parent mortality crisis in my lifetime and am so proud to be a doula! I am accepting postpartum and education clients only between now (May 2025) and October 1 2025!

I was drawn to becoming a birth doula because I saw firsthand the difference that informed, loving support can make. Having gone through my own birth trauma, I realized that a little help goes a long way during this tender phase. I also have a passion for breastfeeding and lactation education. I love to support families that are latching, pumping, bottle feeding, donating, etc.

It began in 2003 when I became certified with DONA International. Since then, I’ve had the immense privilege of witnessing countless births, each one a unique and awe-inspiring miracle. Whether at home or in the hospital, I’ve been by families’ sides, offering support and encouragement every step of the way. But my passion for all things birth goes even deeper. In 2004, I became a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator, and in 2008, a Certified Lactation Educator and Counselor. And in 2007, I experienced the profound joy of giving birth to my own beautiful daughter, supported by two incredible doulas who showed me the true meaning of strength and compassion. I believe with all my heart that every woman—every birthing person—holds an incredible power within. Pregnancy and birth are normal, natural processes, and when we understand our innate abilities, we can embrace these experiences with confidence and joy. Over the years, I’ve been honored to support families through first, second, and third births; natural and medicated births; and those tender early postpartum days when breastfeeding journeys begin. I’m here to offer evidence-based information, a listening ear, and a steady hand to hold. My goal is to help you make informed choices that feel right for you and your family.

Hello all, I am a birth doula (DONA certified), placenta preparation specialist (WCPS certified), and childbirth educator (trained by ProDoula) serving the Western New York area. I also have a background in Biological Anthropology. I am passionate about using my cumulative knowledge to support and educate the pregnant & birthing people of my community, improving birth outcomes, and changing the narrative around childbirth. I've always been drawn to the non-clinical role of a doula, providing education with evidence-based information, supporting parents through pregnancy, labor, birth and beyond, and normalizing birth and breastfeeding in our culture.
