What's the Cost of Hiring a Lactation Consultant in North Andover, MA?

In North Andover, MA, a lactation consultant typically costs about $100 to $250 for an initial visit and around $75 to $150 for a follow-up visit, with home visits often landing on the higher end of that range; some consultants charge hourly rates of roughly $100 to $200, and if the consultant is an IBCLC and accepts insurance, part or all of the cost may be covered depending on your plan.

The cost of a lactation consultant in North Andover, MA can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Certification

International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) typically charge more than Certified Lactation Counselors (CLCs) due to their advanced training and ability to handle complex breastfeeding issues.

  • Visit Type

In-home visits generally cost more than office visits or virtual consultations. Many consultants in North Andover offer telehealth options at reduced rates.

  • Insurance Coverage

Yes—many health insurance plans will cover lactation consultant services in North Andover, MA, especially under the Affordable Care Act, which requires most plans to provide breastfeeding support, counseling, and equipment without cost-sharing when using in-network providers; however, the amount covered depends on your specific plan, whether the consultant is in-network, and whether the service is billed through a hospital, doctor’s office, or private practice. Nationally, a private lactation consultation often costs about $100 to $300 per visit if paying out of pocket, with some initial visits costing more. Medicaid plans often provide some breastfeeding support as well, though access and provider participation can vary. To avoid surprise costs, check whether the lactation consultant is in-network and whether preauthorization or a referral is required.

  • Number of Sessions

Some consultants offer package deals for multiple sessions, which can be more cost-effective than paying per visit, especially for ongoing breastfeeding challenges.

  • HSA and FSA Eligibility

Lactation consulting is an IRS-eligible medical expense, meaning you can use HSA or FSA funds to cover the cost without paying taxes on those dollars.

  • Experience and Specialization

Consultants with specialized expertise in areas like tongue ties, premature infant feeding, or relactation may charge higher rates.

When looking for a lactation consultant in North Andover, MA, it's a good idea to check with your insurance provider first, as many plans cover lactation services. Interview several consultants to find one who fits your needs and budget, and ask about their specific credentials, experience, and what each session includes.

Aarani Montanari

3 years of experience

My name is Aarani Montanari and I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant with a passion for helping mamas, babies and families on their feeding journeys and the transition to new parenthood. My passion for helping moms began when I experienced my own difficult transition to motherhood in 2021. I struggled with breastfeeding my son and subsequently struggled with postpartum anxiety and depression. Finding an amazing IBCLC to help me reach my breastfeeding goals as well as finding a support system of new moms saved me and helped me discover the joy in motherhood. It is this experience that inspired me to become an IBCLC - I know how much of a difference it can make to have support in this vulnerable transition time to motherhood and I want you to know I am here for you every step of the way. I cannot wait to meet you and your sweet little one!

Breastfeeding can be quite the journey of highs and lows, and I probably would have given up if it wasn't for Aarani! She is a gem of a human being, a great and compassionate listener, and a very knowledgeable and talented lactation consultant. She has a unique ability to make you feel heard and respected, all while providing guidance and expert advice in a non-judgmental way. She helped immensely with my baby's latch difficulties, and you can tell she truly cares. I am still nursing today, in large part thanks to Aarani! I would highly recommend her to any breastfeeding mom.

It's said that breastfeeding a baby is the most natural thing in the world, but it doesn't always come naturally. Like many new parents, I experienced a few challenges while breastfeeding my own children. I want to help others avoid or overcome similar difficulties, if possible. The nursing dyad is such a special relationship and I want as many people as possible to get a chance to experience it. Here in America, lactation consultants are often the only health professional visiting a new family in their home, and sometimes we are the only health care worker seeing a new mom in the first six weeks postpartum. I feel really lucky to be one of the first people to meet the new baby! An IBCLC is a unique professional for your family's unique needs. We are small parts sister, friend, nurse, doula, nutritionist, therapist, parenting coach, biology teacher, and detective! We are an important part of your postpartum support system!

I wish I could give Sharla 10 stars!! Her communication is exceptional - from the first outreach for scheduling, in person, and after our appointments she was responsive and timely (even if I texted her at 9 PM on a Friday, sorry Sharla!). She is a perfect mix of professional and kind which made it so comfortable. She is extremely knowledgeable and the variety of suggestions and tools she explained and offered was so uplifting and really took the fear out of the experience we were having. Happy to also report her suggestions solved our bottle refusal after a few weeks!

Birth Savvy

16 years of experience

Hi, we are Anna and Ashley, Registered Nurses specializing in High Risk Obstetrics and founders Of Birth Savvy LLC. Meet Ashley RN, BSN My career began in pediatric primary care and community health, but my true passion led me to Labor & Delivery in 2015. For several years, I worked at one of Boston’s top institutions, caring for high-risk and critically ill birthing patients. I was driven to expand my expertise beyond the delivery room—supporting families holistically throughout their entire pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience. In 2021, I transitioned into Maternal Fetal Medicine, deepening my knowledge of complex pregnancies and high-risk care. My mission is to provide a culturally competent, integrated approach that nurtures both physical and emotional well-being. Beyond my professional experience, I’ve personally navigated a high-risk pregnancy and birth—a journey that sparked my Aha! moment: knowledge, paired with unwavering support, is the true key to empowerment in the perinatal and postpartum experience. That realization led me to create Birth Savvy, because every birthing person deserves high-quality education, autonomy, and confidence. I mix humor, encouragement, and real talk to help parents connect mind and body, fuel inner strength, and embrace birth without fear. I’m a Spinning Babies® Aware Practitioner, Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC), CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor, and trained in perinatal mental health. When I’m not empowering families, you’ll find me traveling, watching action movies, enjoying great food, listening to music, and, of course, being a mom! Meet Anna RN, MSN I’m Anna, a dedicated OB nurse with over 13 years of experience in labor and delivery, postpartum, antepartum, abortion care, and Maternal Fetal Medicine. My passion for childbirth started early, inspired by my grandmother’s stories shared around the dinner table. From the moment I stepped into nursing, I knew supporting families through pregnancy and birth was my calling. Beyond hospital-based care, I earned a Master’s in Public Health and worked in community health, providing vital reproductive care and family planning services. As a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC), Spinning Babies® Aware Practitioner, and Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C) specialist, I bring a holistic and evidence-based approach to every birth experience. My goal is to help families feel calm, confident, and in control, no matter their journey. I founded Birth Savvy because the greatest joy in my career has been guiding parents toward empowered, informed choices—no matter how complex their situation may be. When I’m not working, you’ll find me cooking, traveling, re-learning piano, or tackling endless home improvement projects!

Recent review

Working with Tia was one of the best decisions we made for our pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey. From the very beginning, she brought such wisdom, warmth, and intentionality into every interaction. In our prenatal visits, she patiently walked us through what to expect, explained interventions in a way that felt clear and empowering, and gave my partner practical guidance on how to support me during labor. She also shared so much valuable lactation education that set us up for success once our baby arrived. When the time came for labor, Tia was absolutely incredible. She created such a safe and calming space, offering comfort and encouragement in every moment. She helped my partner feel confident in how to support me both physically and emotionally, and I will forever be grateful for how she helped us walk through that experience together. She was also the best advocate, ensuring that my wishes were honored and that we felt truly cared for and seen. Even after birth, Tia’s support didn’t stop. She has been a steady, compassionate presence—answering questions, easing worries, and guiding us as we step into this new season of parenthood. Her postpartum care has been just as meaningful as her presence at birth. Tia is a gift. She pours love and intentionality into her work in a way that is truly rare, and I can’t imagine having walked through this season without her.

Hi, I’m Melissa. I’m a Certified Birth and Postpartum Doula, Advanced VBAC Doula, Spinning Babies® trained birth professional, and Certified Lactation Counselor (ALPP). I am currently pursuing my IBCLC certification while gaining clinical experience at Anna Jaques and Exeter Hospitals. I have the privilege of supporting families through pregnancy, birth, feeding, and the postpartum transition alongside the wonderful team at Saltwater Doulas. My approach is calm, compassionate, and rooted in evidence-based care, while always honoring your unique goals, values, and intuition as a parent. I believe every family deserves to feel supported, informed, and deeply cared for during this life-changing season. Whether you are preparing for birth, working through feeding challenges, recovering postpartum, or adjusting to life with a new baby, I strive to create a safe space where you feel heard, encouraged, and empowered every step of the way. Before becoming a doula, I spent nearly 20 years as a dental hygienist, where I was known for helping people feel comfortable, cared for, and at ease. That same gentle presence and commitment to personalized support now guide my work with growing families. My care is inclusive, nonjudgmental, and accessible. I proudly support all birthing parents and families, including those seeking affordable care, because everyone deserves compassionate support during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. My hope is that when we work together, you'll feel like you have both a knowledgeable professional and a trusted friend by your side—someone who can offer guidance, reassurance, and unwavering support as you navigate this new chapter. When I'm not supporting families, you'll find me spending time outdoors, making memories with my husband and children, and enjoying the simple moments that keep me grounded and grateful. I would be honored to be part of your journey.

For my first pregnancy, I wanted a doula to help guide me through the experience and help me with understanding my options during labor. Saltwater Doulas are loved by Exeter Hospital, which made us even more excited to work with them. Melissa's style was exactly what I needed during my first pregnancy. She is so informative and easy to communicate with. I didn't know what to ask about sometimes, so her approach of offering lots of information and suggestions helped me to learn and feel confident in the process. Her Spinning Babies education helped me to prepare my body for labor and made it as smooth as possible. When I had to get induced, Melissa helped me to understand the process and pain management options. She provided hands on support as I went into active labor, and she was supportive of my decisions throughout. Thank you so much, Melissa!
