When I first reached out to Meka about being our doula, she instantly responded with enthusiasm, tons of information and a motherly feeling of genuine care and support. I had read a few books, but didn’t really know what to expect and wanted a doula that was helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and great with communication. Meka exceeded all of my expectations, and I consider her an essential component of my successful birth experience. Meka is always in touch, whether it is sharing articles, resources, videos, answering my thousands of questions, getting to know my birth preferences and helping to calm my anxiety with suggestions and offering an ear to listen. She not only supported me, but my husband, as well, by making him feel more confident as a support partner, and more prepared for what the hospital might entail. We practiced breathing routines, experimented with the peanut ball, and learned so much about pregnancy, labor and delivery. Meka was nonjudgmental, extremely patient and understanding, calm and sensitive to my fears. Meka is flexible with her communication, whether it be virtual or in person, e-mail, texting, etc. She was the first person I called when I went into labor, and was immediately on the way at 4 am when my water broke, with her adorable doula shirt, of course! Meka was a warm and comforting presence throughout my labor. After coming home from the hospital, Meka constantly stayed in touch with my husband and I, and helped me during the postpartum visit, both physically and emotionally. It was so nice to see her afterwards and I know that we will stay in touch. I absolutely recommend Meka and know she will be an amazing advocate and support for your birth experience!

Hey there! My name is Marissa, I’m a DONA Certified Birth Doula and Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator based in Morris County, NJ! Just just minutes away from Our Birthing Center, Morristown Medical Center, and Overlook Medical. I’m a mom of two amazing children, and after my experiences trying-to-conceive and giving birth to my first child, I felt an incredible pull to birth work. Helping people learn about all their options in birth and how to feel empowered in their decisions are some of my greatest passions! I work with parents throughout their journeys, from trying-to-conceive all the way to postpartum! I also work with many parents pregnant after loss - a different and nuanced experience in many ways (one I have experienced myself). I am so so thrilled to meet local parents building their families, and the babies you’ll be welcoming into your lives!

As I sit here 2 months postpartum. The reality of being a first time mom is starting to set in. As I think back, the whole experience from being pregnant to giving birth is so crazy! Luckily, I found Marissa and had her support, fact checking knowledge, and companionship through it all. She helped me so much through my pregnancy, the highs and lows. She made me feel confident in myself and I would highly recommend considering having her as a doula. Her knowledge of everything about pregnancy and support was exceptional. Having her as part of my support team was exactly what I needed to make my birth experience the best possible. I'm so grateful we connected not just on my pregnancy but also as a new friendship. Marissa is awesome and if you are looking for someone to be a part of your birthing experience that is knowledgeable and also genuine, she's it!

Antasia Mccray

4 years of experience

I am a mother to a 5 year old and have loved children since I was a child myself. I have always been someone who enjoys helping people. I started on the path towards nursing, earning my Associate’s degree in Fall of 2022. After mostly completing my degree in summer of 2022, I realized my personality wouldn't shine in nursing. I am more empathetic and personable, which lead me to becoming a doula. I started with birth doula in August and it opened my eyes to my passion for birthwork. Shortly after, I took the postpartum doula workshop. That led me to also taking infant CPR, and earning a certified lactation support counselor as well. I am looking forward to sitting for the Lamaze CBE exam Fall of 2023. I have worked with families both prior to these certifications and currently and I can’t wait to explore and learn more

Antasia was an incredible support for my husband and I when we needed overnight care for our newborn. After interviewing many people, we had been turned off by those who were strict about their approach and seemed to want to impose their practices on our family. As new parents, we needed tenderness and flexibility—someone who would care for our son at night and allow us to sleep peacefully knowing our son was safe and being tended to the way we choose to raise him. Antasia was a calm and responsive presence, working with us to adapt to changes as our newborn developed and we grew as parents. She was always on time and communicated proactively in the rare instance there was a scheduling issue. At the start of every visit she asked us what changed and what was new, which was helpful as newborns change on a weekly basis and so did our approach. We were always at peace knowing Antasia was coming. I also was able to recover from insomnia due to Antasia’s presence and my confidence in her to look after our child while we slept. Our only regret was not meeting her sooner so we could have had her with our family on day 1 coming home from the hospital.

Tykarah Pitt

8 years of experience

My name is Tykarah, and I am a traditional birth attendant and a devoted student of indigenous midwifery. With Jamaican (paternal) and American (maternal) roots, I embody a rich heritage that includes Irish immigrants, Creek, Maroons, and Syria. As a BLACK Afro-Indigenous woman, my spiritual and professional journey is deeply intertwined with my membership in the Divine Sisterhood Circle, a BIPOC women-led community dedicated to creating sacred, inclusive spaces where families feel safe, seen, heard, and supported. I am also a proud member of the Traditional Community Birth Workers (TBCW), focusing on preserving ancestral wisdom and traditional birth practices without the use of legend drugs or ultrasound. My offerings include a comprehensive range of services such as emotional, physical, and spiritual support throughout the birthing process. I provide energy work, massage therapy, traditional womb care, yoni steaming, belly wrapping, herbal teas and salves, placenta rituals, hip closing ceremonies, and meal preparation. Having completed extensive training in lactation consulting, birth assistance, holistic midwifery skills, and full spectrum doula work with a concentration on reproductive justice, I am committed to empowering and healing families through culturally affirming modalities. My philosophy centers on the sacredness of birth as a transformative ritual, where each family’s unique experience is honored and supported. By following the path of my ancestors and integrating the teachings of the Psalms, I strive to guide families through a journey of personal and collective growth, while fighting against systemic oppression and fostering holistic well-being.

After struggling with severe pain during breastfeeding and hearing that discomfort was normal and to keep pushing through, I was beyond grateful when Stephanie came to my rescue. First off, Stephanie knows her stuff! She is so knowledge and passionate about sharing all she can to help with lactation. Stephanie was able to tweak my techniques, give me pointers, and boom, no more pain! With no judgement, and a kind attitude, Stephanie made it easy for me to relax and trust the process. Breastfeeding is NOT suppose to hurt! Who knew! If you're having any sort of issues with feeding or lactation, call Stephanie! Your welcome!
