Here is a little background on me (the short version) - I started working at KinderCare during my summers in college. 2016-2018. August of 2018 I started nannying for a 15 month old while I was still finishing my Bachelors Degree. I stayed with that family until I graduated college in May of 2020. (I actually still have contact with this family and remain very close with them.) I graduated college from UMN Twin Cities with a BS in Child Developmental Psychology. After college I worked as an ABA therapist for Kiddos with Autism. Then I moved to a school district and worked in SPED with kiddos with EBD (emotional behavioral disorder). Finally that brings me to my current job 2020-now. I work as a Guardian ad Litem for the State of Minnesota. Essentially a cross between an attorney and a child advocate in the family court system. I am looking for some part time work for a couple of reasons, but the main reason is I recently lost my mom to chemotherapy complications in May of 2024. Since then I have been trying to find things that bring me joy in such dark times. Children are that joy for me. While I work with children in my regular career, I want to get back to my roots in providing direct one on one care for kiddos.

This is a quote that has stuck with me as I explore my career path. Becoming a doula is something I did not follow through with until the murder of George Floyd. Seeing the striking images of pregnant Black mothers protesting around the country ignited the fire in me to finally complete my training to become a certified perinatal educator - meaning I can provide childbirth education, prenatal support, labor and delivery support, lactation support, and newborn care support. But my calling to birth work started on the day I was born with my mother being hospitalized for 2 months postpartum from an avoidable mistake during an emergency c-section. I value empathy, collaboration, and being open minded. As a doula, I am intentional about serving my clients in a way that supports self-empowerment, so they feel they have all the information they feel they need to make the best decision for them and their baby/babies. I do not shy away from vulnerability, and I believe this allows me to have relationships with my clients built on trust.

I have been a full time mother for almost three years, exclusively breastfed for 2 years. My experience as a Nursing Assistant prepared me for the challenges of motherhood. I am very excited to transition into making someone else's home a comforting place. Including support for the new baby, older siblings, birthing parent, partner, and/or all family in the home. Jerriah Marie (She/Her)… is a wellness practitioner, birth worker, and medicine wombman located in the twin cities. When she is not serving families in the birth space you can find her writing poetry, whipping up herbal remedies in her kitchen, and sharing cuddles with her daughter Leilani. Her passion for birth work began at age 5. After witness her first birth, she knew that being a birthworker was her mission. As a young adult Jerriah was always deeply moved by birth and found her way supporting family members and friends during their labor. It wasn't until 2020, after the birth of her daughter, that this spark reignited back into her life and she dove deep into the meaningful work that she now does as a birth worker. As someone who suffered from postpartum depression I know what I wish I'd have had in my postpartum journey that I did not. I strive to make mothers feel supported and nurtured during their 4th trimester. I have always been drawn to newborns, infants, children of all ages, and their families. There is a richness in family life that always brings about such a great sense of wonder and awe. There is a way a baby or toddler looks back at you and you know they don’t care what color your hair is, how many wrinkles you have, if you are overweight, underweight, or have zero sense of style. They just know how to LOVE.
