Selina Truax

Hi there! I’m the founder of Independent Sleepers and a proud mom of two. With over 10 years as an ICU RN and 2 years in the NICU, I bring both medical expertise and a mother’s heart to my work. As a certified pediatric sleep consultant and newborn care specialist, I’ve guided thousands of families to restful nights and consistent naps. Most babies I work with sleep through the night within just a few nights, and settle into proper nap routines within 2 weeks.

Recent review

Working with Selina was one of the best decisions we made for our family! Before we started, my 9 month old baby was waking multiple times a night and naps were unpredictable. They were anywhere from 15-30 minutes, which left everyone exhausted and overwhelmed. From the very beginning, she took the time to really understand our baby’s temperament, our routines, and our parenting style—nothing felt one-size-fits-all. Her plan was clear, gentle, and realistic. We never left my baby alone to cry, he was supported the entire time. Within just a few days, we started seeing improvements. It’s been a week since we started and the naps are already over an hour! He is also doing amazing long stretches at night. She was always available to answer questions, adjust the plan when needed, and reassure us during tougher moments. I can’t recommend her enough to any parent who’s struggling with sleep and looking for compassionate and effective guidance!

McKenna Weaver

My name is McKenna; I am a birth and postpartum doula. I became a doula in 2023 after the birth of my second child. As too many experience, my birth with my first was not what I had envisioned it to be. This lead me down the path of how disconnected birth has become. After my second child, I started my doula education and set on a path to help families feel supported and educated no matter the circumstance. As a doula, helping mom & baby of course is the main focus, but supporting the partner and/or the whole family unit is another major aspect of my practice as well. Partners are a vital role in the birth, and I focus on this connection between the two. I recognize that giving birth and the postpartum period is more than a medical experience, it is a key life experience and one that will be remembered all your life. This is something I take very seriously and feel very honored to be involved in such a sacred, special life event of yours. Discussing your birth and postpartum goals, concerns and questions help me to understand what is most important to you and allows me to customize your care. As your Doula, I will do my best to educate and support you in the way that you find most beneficial. Like I stated above, this is a major life experience, and I am honored to be a part of it! I look forward to meeting with you, discussing all your birth and postpartum goals and being a part of this transformative time in your life!

Kenna was apart of my birth dream team and I can't imagine doing it again without her! As a first time mom, having someone by my side who was calm and experienced during the entire labor and delivery process was so reassuring. Not only did she help me stay comfortable but more importantly she made a huge impact on my mind set. She answered my questions, coached me on breathing, and encouraged me when I needed it. I had a beautiful birthing experience and Kenna definitely helped to make it happen. ??

Hayden Brame

Hi everybody! My name is Hayden Brame and I am a doula here in the Twin Cities. I have been working with children and their families since I was a teenager (more than 10 years now!) and am so passionate about families and making sure that every family has the best start imaginable. I believe that giving birth should be empowering and focus on the choices that you are able to make and on giving you the information that you need to make those choices. I will advocate for your decisions, from everything from what music to be played to what pain management you would prefer, and I will also hold space in the moment for any changes that you need. Birth is sacred and should be treated as such- at the end of this experience, you'll have a new member of your family to start a life with and I want to make sure that you are set up for success every step of the way!

Recent review

Hayden was a wonderful doula to have at my first birth. Her experience with a TENS unit, acupressure points, and applying counter pressure during all my contractions was crucial to my smooth labor. She kept track of all my contractions and when they began to get farther apart she encouraged me to start walking. She also coached my husband and sister on counter pressure so they could help me as well. Hayden’s calm presence helped keep me stable and focused throughout the day and I’m so thankful that she could guide me through my first birth!

Rachel LaMachia Stephens

Hi, I'm Rachel (she/her)! I am a certified doula through Community Aware Birthworker, trained as a Full Spectrum Doula through Birthing Advocacy Doula Trainings, and a trained HypnoDoula through Hypnobabies®. It is important to me to continually learn and grow as I support families with evidence-based information so that they can make the best decisions for themselves and their families. As a Full Spectrum Doula, I strive to help pregnant people and their families feel respected, informed, heard, and held as they navigate life changes in the prenatal, birth, and postpartum experiences. I believe that all pregnant people have an innate power and inner knowing that is revealed through the birthing process. My role is to support birthing people (and their support person), whether that’s physically holding hips or emotionally holding space.

As a doula myself, I had a strong gut feeling when it came time for my own pregnancy and birth that I wanted Rachel on our team. Even already knowing that Rachel was an amazing birthworker, she blew us away with her wisdom, advocacy, and steadfast care. She took the time to know us well and work through our family's birth preferences, shared recommendations for local acupuncturists and body workers, responded to any and all queries so quickly, and made sure we were equipped to advocate for ourselves when it came time to birth. When the hospital we had planned to birth at was on divert last minute, Rachel was a grounding presence and a very welcome familiar face throughout some unexpected twists and turns. In reflecting on our birth, we tell everybody that Rachel was a critical player in our positive birth experience, as she led the way in guiding us through an intense labor and helping baby move into a better position to make his grand entrance - my husband and I both believe things would have gone very differently had we not had Rachel by our sides. After birth, we struggled with initiating breastfeeding and Rachel sprung into action to connect us with a local lactation counselor, donor milk, and generally provided such compassionate reassurances. She's become a friend and the kind of person every single birthing person and family should have in their corner as they navigate these transformative experiences. Cannot recommend Rachel enough!

What a gift to work with Better Beginnings! Hallie and her team were so prompt and helpful from start to finish, making sure we had what we need to choose the right offerings for our birth and were so gracious about all of our questions along the way. We loved working with our doula Cyrese - She went above and beyond to check in, encourage, and support us in all the weeks leading up to birth and through our delivery, sharing so much knowledge and cheering us along the whole way. We felt so loved and supported in our preparations for birth and welcoming our little one to our home - We would warmly recommend Better Beginnings to any mama and family welcoming a new baby!

Night nannies truly are angels on earth during one of the most wonderful, but also overwhelming, seasons of life—and Kelsey was absolutely that for our family. From the very beginning, Kelsey was warm, dependable, knowledgeable, and genuinely caring. We quickly felt completely comfortable trusting her with our baby overnight, which is about the highest compliment you can give someone. There is an incredible sense of relief in being able to close your eyes at night and know that your baby is safe, loved, and being cared for by someone you completely trust. Kelsey has such a calm and reassuring presence and was incredibly attentive to our baby’s needs. Having her with us gave us the invaluable gift of sleep, an investment in our health and made those early newborn months feel so much more manageable. We cannot recommend Kelsey highly enough. Entrusting someone with your newborn is an enormous decision, and we never once questioned that he was in wonderful hands with her. We are incredibly grateful she was part of such a special chapter in our lives, and any family would be truly fortunate to have Kelsey caring for their baby.

Leah was an integral part of our big day. She helped to add comfort and reassurance as we welcomed our little girl. There were intense parts and she was right by my side (mom) through the whole process. She is also creative and adaptive to the birthing environment. We are extremely grateful to have met Leah and we will be teaming with Hera for any future kiddos that we welcome

May 2026

As a fourth-time mom, I felt confident going in to my birth, I knew my body and my birth preferences, but baby #4 threw us some curveballs, and I’m so, so glad that Madi was there for us! I was too fried to think through and work out a lot of things before and after birth - she helped me work it all out. Madi was generous with her time and made sure to understand our needs and priorities, and as a result, she was able to provide us with exactly the support we needed. Her knowledge and research help was amazing, but who she is was the greatest gift to our fourth daughter’s birth day. Madi naturally has a soothing disposition, she remains calm, but connected. In a situation that was constantly changing, stressful, and high stakes, I’m glad we had her in our corner.
