The cost of a midwife in Santee, CA can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Midwife

Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) who work in hospital settings may have different pricing than Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) who attend home births or birth center deliveries.

  • Birth Setting

Hospital births with a midwife typically cost less out-of-pocket when covered by insurance, while home births and birth center deliveries may have different fee structures.

  • Scope of Services

Many midwives offer comprehensive packages that include prenatal visits, labor and delivery support, and postpartum care, which can affect the overall cost.

  • Insurance Coverage

California Medicaid covers services provided by certified nurse-midwives, including prenatal care, birth attendance, and postpartum care. Benefits for licensed or certified professional midwives at home or birth-center deliveries depend on the individual Medicaid plan and are not assured for every member. Santee has a modest local market, with eight midwives listed within 60 miles. Private insurance coverage varies, so check your plan’s network and benefits.

  • Experience and Specialization

Midwives with extensive experience, additional certifications, or specializations such as VBAC support or water birth may charge higher rates.

  • Geographic Location

Midwifery costs can vary based on the cost of living and demand for midwifery services in your specific area.

When considering hiring a midwife in Santee, CA, it's advisable to research and interview several midwives to find one who aligns with your birth plan, preferences, and budget. Carissa Velasquez

6 years of experience
Packages from $150 · $45/hr

I am a trained birth and postpartum doula, and have worked with families in Los Angeles and San Diego over the last 6 years providing meal services, Bengkung belly binding, birth and postpartum services. As a trained health coach, I am passionate about holistic wellness, and incorporate this knowledge into my practice to support the best health for mother’s and babies during the perinatal period.

We were so lucky to work with Carissa for 6 months during our daughter’s infancy (Dec 2021 - May 2022). Carissa provided infant care for our daughter, including support with feeding, daytime sleep, diapering, and time outside. She also provided extensive support through healthy and nourishing meal preparation - both for myself and my partner during our extended postpartum period, as well as for our daughter when she transitioned to incorporating solid foods. In addition, Carissa kept our household calm, functioning, and well-managed by providing light housekeeping and support (e.g., dishes, infant laundry). Carissa is warm and kind in all that she does - we always welcomed and felt comfortable with her in our home. And our (challenging and very particular!) daughter loved her from day one - they shared a close and special bond until our move out of state. For folks preparing for or in the midst of a postpartum experience, do yourself a favor and hire Carissa! She made our transitional time into parents so much brighter and better cared for.

Hi! My name is Julianna, and I am a birth + postpartum doula and reproductive health educator based in San Diego, California. I am deeply passionate about supporting people through their fertility, pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and transition into parenthood with care that is informed, grounded, and non-judgmental. My approach blends evidence-based education with intuitive, hands-on support, honoring both the physiological process of birth and the emotional experience that comes with it. I believe that when parents feel informed, respected, and supported in their choices, birth and postpartum can feel more empowering and less overwhelming. I strive to create a calm, affirming space where clients feel safe to ask questions, explore options, and trust their bodies. In addition to doula care, my background in fertility awareness and reproductive health education shapes how I support clients holistically—from conception and pregnancy through postpartum recovery. In my free time, I love being outdoors, moving my body, and grounding myself in simple routines that nourish both body and mind.

From the very beginning, she was knowledgeable, kind, and deeply reassuring. Giving birth during COVID came with so much uncertainty, but her calm presence and steady guidance helped us navigate every step with confidence. When we had to pivot from our original birth plan, she kept us grounded and supported, ensuring we still felt empowered in the process. What truly sets her apart is that her care didn’t end at delivery. She has continued to check in with our family over the years, which speaks volumes about the level of care she provides. My husband and I highly recommend her to any family looking for a doula who is both skilled and genuinely invested in the families she serves.

Naomi Walker

13 years of experience
Packages from $2,000 · $55/hr

Hello! My name is Naomi. I am a newborn care specialist, doula, and aspiring Midwife. I have been working with infants for over 10 years, primarily focusing on the newborn stage. I have extensive experience working with multiples, all feeding support, even g-tube feeding. I am a community centered provider, which is why I am working towards being certified as a Full Spectrum Doula training and hopefully midwifery school. When it comes to providing post-partum support, my philosophies are gentle and feeding led. I want my clients to feel supported, and I want to help build their confidence caring for their children without overstepping.

Naomi is a wonderful doula and newborn care specialist. She listened and cares for all of her clients and their extended family members! She became a wonderful member of the family during her time with us. She provided prenatal care during pregnancy, including nursery and home walkthroughs and daily check-ins leading up to the birth of our twins. She was a wonderful partner at the hospital and supported all of our wishes during and after the birth. When we arrived home, she helped us tremendously, bringing home twins and adjusting to our new lives as parents. She helped us create a schedule, organize our home, breastfeeding and bottle feeding, and daily activities while we were at home. She is an invaluable resource, doing research and providing updates during overnights so we can address things in the morning. She also provided feedback for our doctors when one of the twins had some feeding issues and was supportive of our decisions, while also providing educated insight and feedback to help. She is the most wonderful person to have on your team, and I think she provides so much to every family she works with.
