What's the Cost of Hiring a Midwife in Bremerton, WA?

The cost of a midwife in Bremerton, WA, can vary based on the services provided, experience of the midwife, and whether you're planning a home birth, birth center delivery, or seeking prenatal and postpartum care. On average, midwifery care can range from $3,000 to $6,000 for comprehensive services, including prenatal appointments, labor and delivery, and postpartum care. Some insurance plans may cover part or all of the costs, so it's a good idea to check with your provider. Additionally, many midwives offer payment plans or sliding scale fees to make services more accessible.

The cost of a midwife in Bremerton, WA can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Midwife

Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) who work in hospital settings may have different pricing than Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) who attend home births or birth center deliveries.

  • Birth Setting

Hospital births with a midwife typically cost less out-of-pocket when covered by insurance, while home births and birth center deliveries may have different fee structures.

  • Scope of Services

Many midwives offer comprehensive packages that include prenatal visits, labor and delivery support, and postpartum care, which can affect the overall cost.

  • Insurance Coverage

Whether insurance covers the cost of a midwife in Bremerton, WA, depends on your specific insurance plan and the midwife's credentials. Many insurance plans, including Medicaid in Washington State, cover midwifery services if the midwife is licensed and in-network. However, coverage can vary based on factors such as the type of care (home birth, birthing center, or hospital-based), the midwife's licensing (such as Certified Nurse Midwife or Licensed Midwife), and your insurance provider's policies. It's essential to contact your insurance company directly to confirm coverage details, including co-pays, deductibles, and any pre-authorization requirements.

  • Experience and Specialization

Midwives with extensive experience, additional certifications, or specializations such as VBAC support or water birth may charge higher rates.

  • Geographic Location

Midwifery costs can vary based on the cost of living and demand for midwifery services in your specific area.

When considering hiring a midwife in Bremerton, WA, it's advisable to research and interview several midwives to find one who aligns with your birth plan, preferences, and budget. During consultations, you can discuss their specific services, insurance acceptance, and pricing structure to ensure you have a clear understanding of what is included and the associated costs.

I am certified as a birth doula through DONA and serve women in the Pacific Northwest, specifically Kitsap County and surrounding areas. I do cross the Narrows bridge to hospitals in Tacoma as well. I do take Medicaid clients as well as tricare. Homebirth is near and dear to me and I experienced it for my births as well. It has also been a privilege to support those wanting to VBAC or birth in a hospital space. It’s exciting to learn about and practice Spinning Babies and other support measures to better serve birthing women.

Carol has been my birth doula twice, and her support was invaluable each time. From the prenatal stage—helping me with birth planning, stretching, and essential oils—to the labor itself, she guided with practical knowledge and grace. Her hip squeezes provided significant relief during intense labor, and she was a steadfast advocate for my wishes, helping me achieve lower-intervention births in a hospital setting. Carol is remarkably calm in high-stress moments. After discovering my baby was breech, her specialized knowledge of breech delivery helped inform my decisions, gave me confidence to do what I felt was right for my baby and I, and supported me through to a successful vaginal breech delivery. Compared to my first birth, having Carol as my doula made a huge difference in helping me feel secure, contributing to all-around more positive birth experiences.

A dedicated, capable, and broadly skilled Full Spectrum Doula. My skillset has flourished in the years I’ve spent in professional birth and postpartum care. Having supported over 300 families through pregnancy, labor and birth, and even hundreds more in postpartum, as well as a foundation of 20+ years of NCS experience, I am a seasoned Doula based here in metro Seattle / Tacoma. My competencies are built on the foundation of full-spectrum experience of pregnancy, birth and postpartum. I walk hand in hand with families through first, second, and third births as well as the many in-between variations of the experience of growing family. It is important to me to practice with a calm and clear mind, helping to build your confidence and awareness early on, helping you assert your autonomy confidently to be in charge of your experience. At the heart of my work as your doula are the values of trust, honesty, reliability and non-judgmental support. There is no one right way to become a family. My role is to help you feel sure of what is right for you.

Nori was the whole reason my birth experience went as smoothly as it did. Not only did she prepare me and my husband for what would likely occur, but she prepped us beforehand with research behind the decisions that are made during these moments. This was so unbelievably smart and helpful to discuss beforehand, so we didn’t have to make any hard decisions during labor. Nori also provided such a comfort, not only physically, but emotionally and mentally. She helped my husband learn ways to help me manage labor pains, paid attention to what sort of environment I preferred, and even took photos of us with our newborn. I can’t imagine not choosing Nori!

Ayden My Birth Doula was an absolute lifesaver throughout my entire birth journey. From our prenatal visit to postnatal support, she was incredibly informative, knowledgeable, and always on time. She helped me understand what to expect, even knowing that birth can be an unexpected process at times, which gave me confidence and peace of mind going into labor. As a single mom by choice, Ayden was especially respectful and empathetic to my unique needs and how they differ from those of a couple. She was deeply supportive, caring, and thoughtful, never dismissive, and always made me feel seen, understood, and honored in my experience. During birth, Ayden was kind, nurturing, and remarkably calm. Her lovely positive affirmations and strong, grounding words helped me stay focused and empowered. Her intuitive guidance, especially with birth positioning for pushing was invaluable, and she attentively nurtured all of my needs, from snacks and water to maintaining dim lighting and a peaceful space. Giving birth to a Christmas baby unfortunately for me turned into travel nurses, and midwives and nothing going as planned. Yet, Ayden created calm within the chaos. She helped keep me grounded and feeling safe, and knowing she was by my side brought immense comfort. Her postnatal visit was just as supportive and reassuring, helping me process the experience and feel cared for beyond the birth itself. I truly cannot imagine my birth experience without Ayden’s support. Truly a Doula Angel Sent to help bring my baby girl into this world safely and as calm as possible in the unknown.

Hi! I’m a birth doula, childbirth educator, and lactation counselor with a background in osteopathic medicine and a deep passion for perinatal support. During medical school, I saw how the way we approach and nurture pregnancy and birth can shape early family experience, creating lasting ripple effects. In addition to birth work, I lead parent support groups through PEPS and am a mom of two teens. I understand how unpredictable and transformative the journey into parenthood can be, and my role is to help you feel grounded in the moment and ready for what comes next. Every parent brings their own values and lived experiences—sometimes joyful, always complex—and I offer steady support and advocacy tailored to your unique path.

Working with Jen was one of the best decisions I made for my birth. From the start, she brought a calm, confident, and grounding presence that felt so reassuring. She took the time to understand not just what my birth plan was, but why it mattered to me (which I think made all the difference when things didn’t go exactly as I originally hoped). Throughout pregnancy, she stayed in close contact and was always available when I felt worried or confused. Her guidance through the confusing days of pre/early labor and her arrival as soon as we needed more support made me feel really cared for. During labor, Jen really helped me cope with contractions and stay calm in between. She helped me get into a good flow and pulled many helpful things out of her toolbox (both metaphorically and literally) without disrupting my rhythm. Hospitals make me uneasy, but she helped me stay focused no matter what was going on around me. She kept me grounded when things got intense and I doubted myself. Jen interacted effortlessly with the medical team and brought up helpful questions I wouldn’t have known to ask (monitoring, IV placement, positioning especially during pushing). Between preparation during prenatal meetings and Jen’s encouragement and advocacy during my birth, I was able to stay confident and really be in the moment when my baby arrived. I can’t imagine going through pregnancy and birth without her.
