Natalie Downey

Hi! I'm Natalie Downey, Birth and Postpartum doula serving in the Columbus, GA area. From hiking to foraging, I love to spend time in nature. As a local herbalist, I lead herbal workshops, foraging walks, and create herbal remedies to support healthy pregnancy, birth, and postpartum recovery. Working with nature's gifts to create easy to use remedies is one of my biggest passions. In the birth space, I honor your own personal story and walk beside you into the transition to parenting your new little one. My approach is calm, centered, and compassionately empowering.

What would I have done without Natalie? I don’t want to know! I was growing increasingly anxious throughout my pregnancy, as I was going for a VBA2C, and I frankly feared pushback from OB’s, and/or my birth not going how I was hoping by potentially being fearmongered into unnecessary interventions. So, I decided to hire a doula, for the first time ever, and as soon as I did, I instantly felt relief, knowing I had someone experienced on my side to guide, support, encourage, provide factual information, and help advocate for me as needed. Natalie was recommended to me by another doula in the area, and as I had previously seen her presence in various local mom groups, I was happy to go with her. From our very first messages and FaceTime meeting, I was happy with my choice as I instantly felt comfortable with her. The fact that she has many children and has experienced different birth scenarios herself, made me feel even more secure in my choice. All throughout the remainder of my pregnancy, she was always there whenever I had questions or doubts, always giving such great information, providing evidence for both sides, as well as sharing her own experiences. She would even send things that she came across on her own time, thinking it would be beneficial for me, and it always was! When my pregnancy came to a hard decision at the end, (things that were out of our control), Natalie accompanied me to an OB visit, and I’m so grateful that she did. She kept me calm and grounded, reminded me of all of the facts and risks, and she was so helpful in asking questions that I wasn’t able to muster up in the moment! That was huge for me. Overall, I have no doubts or regrets about how my birth went, and I credit that largely to Natalie. If I didn’t have her support and advocacy, I might be questioning if I really made the right choice(s) in the end, and then would likely be feeling unsettled. But I am happy and feel complete peace of mind, and that is so important! It felt like I had an experienced big sister throughout the whole process, looking out for me, and that’s exactly what I wanted and needed. She is precisely the kind of person needed for such important and I’d even say sacred work; considerate, warm, informed, fair, experienced, etc, and she’s also so generous! Bonus points to her for being natural-minded and proficient in herbalism too! If I have another pregnancy, I am absolutely going with Natalie again!

Recent review

Donnita Parker has worked with me as my full spectrum doula through a few of my pregnancies and has always been such a great help. I am labeled as high risk and had to have C-Sections. She worked with me while I was pregnant, providing emotional support and helping me prepare mentally and physically for birth. She was present with me during the births as my doula, using comfort measures to ease anxiety and advocate for my needs. In the postpartum period after bringing my children (now ages 3 and 4) home from the hospital, Donnita was invaluable. She assisted me with newborn care, breastfeeding support, meal prep, light housework, and self-care. I suffered from postpartum mood issues, but she helped lift my spirits with counseling, compassion, and practical baby care advice tailored to my situation. Even now, years later, I still call on Donnita from time to time in her role as my motherhood coach. As questions and struggles arise, she helps guide me on my parenting journey with sage wisdom and personalized tips. I am so grateful to have had Donnita's continuous care and support through all stages of pregnancy, birth, and motherhood. She has truly made this journey easier.

— Rachel A., review of Natalie Downey May 2026

As a doula who needed a doula, Natalie was the PERFECT person for the job! She was compassionate, caring, and vocal. Natalie's knowledge of herbalism and alternative pain managment techniques combined with her experience as a mom allowed her to show up for me without hesitation or fear and help me have the 100% medication-free birth I wanted, even when I thought I couldn't do it. When faced with the decision to have a medical intervention, Natalie was quick to employ the BRAIN method to help me make an informed decision that was un-influenced by my medical team. While maintaining her role as my support person, she ensured a nurse got photos & videos for me during labor AND delivery; something that was VERY important to me but quickly left the forefront of my & my husband's minds. If I were to ever have another baby, I would 100% hire Natalie at Mama Moon Birth Services!!

— Destiny S.J., review of Natalie Downey March 2026

"Mama Moon" was my birth doula and is currently supporting me through my 4th trimester (postpartum). She was absolutely perfect in my labor & delivery and I will shout that from the mountain top 100 times over! Natalie showed up with care, advocacy, and an extensive knowledge on alternative pain relief techniques that helped me have a completely natural labor with no interventions; like I dreamed of. Natalie's herbalism knowledge & kind spirit and heart will make her the BEST addition to your birthing team!
