Selah is a Biblical word which appears mostly in the Psalms and means, "to pause and reflect." In Scripture, this gives the reader a chance to contemplate what they just read. And in labor, this applies to the break in between contractions; a chance to pause, a chance to breathe, a chance to rest in the presence of the Lord.
