Genicia Battle

My name is Genicia Battle, known in the Ifá community as Ifáfúnké Àṣọre. I am a Full Circle Doula and Birth Companion, trained through the SMC Full Circle Doula Birth Companion Training. A program rooted in the cultural, historical, and spiritual traditions of African American midwifery and birth work. I became a doula because every birthing person deserves to feel seen, supported, and spiritually connected throughout their journey. I know the difference it makes to birth in a space that feels warm, honoring, and sacred. My vision is to offer families not only emotional and spiritual support, but also culturally rooted healing tools that nurture the womb, body, and soul. Birth is not just a moment! It is a portal! My purpose is to ensure that every mother steps through it feeling whole, powerful, and profoundly connected to her divine nature.

I talked to Genicia and explained how I was feeling. The back story is...I had a really bad headache. One of those headaches that affects not just your head but every part of your face and the back of your neck. It would not go away, and it was very painful. Shortly then I remembered that Genicia gave me a tea bag of her Simmer Down nerve tea for days like this. When I had her tea, my headache started to calm down. I was no longer in pain. If you ever experience a headache like this, I suggest getting in a comfy spot and having a cup of her Simmer Down nerve tea and watch how it works.

I understand that birth and reproductive experiences can be beautiful, challenging, unpredictable, and deeply personal. I strive to meet each client where they are, offering compassionate care that centers their needs rather than my own expectations. My Future in Midwifery My journey in birth work is only the beginning. Since starting as a doula in 2022, I have continued to grow my passion for maternal and reproductive care. One of my long-term goals is to become a midwife so I can further expand my knowledge, skills, and ability to serve families throughout pregnancy, birth, and beyond. I am here to support your journey, honor your choices, and remind you that your voice matters. Whether you are planning your birth, preparing for postpartum, navigating a reproductive decision, or seeking support through loss, you deserve care rooted in compassion, dignity, and respect. Vanessa was our doula for all 5 of our children. My husband wasn’t convinced we needed a doula, but after our first was born, he said, “We could not have done that without her!” So she was considered a necessity for the subsequent births. Before birth day, she met with us to discuss our birth plan and goals and how she could help us with that. She taught us what to do for pain management. She involved my husband as much as he wanted/could handle, but she did a significant amount of the pain relief techniques for me. She made sure I was drinking water and always had my cup filled up. She fed me. She reminded me to breathe correctly. She reminded me to “push from your bottom”. She held my hand. She put a cold cloth on my forehead. She knew what I needed when I didn’t. Her presence is calm and kind. For my last birth, my only home birth, she asked in our initial meeting if I had considered catching the baby myself. I told her no, but we decided to discuss what that would look like anyway. The midwife missed that birth. Vanessa made it just in time. I didn’t even know I was pushing, but she knew! She said to my husband,“She’s pushing - we need to get her undressed and in the tub.” She helped me undress and get in the birthing tub and - who knew - I caught my own baby and she was right there with me guiding the process by telling me exactly what to do like we had practiced weeks before. She helped to handle discussing the birth and updates to my midwife on the phone, communicating to us what the midwife needed us to know. She was definitely a source of comfort for all my births, but especially that one! She also does a postpartum visit to check on us and comes full of ideas, contacts, and resources for any postpartum help we need. I cannot recommend her enough. She is such a blessing to our family.

Riley Bandstra

I’m Riley, the doula behind Root and Vine. This work is my calling — rooted in a deep respect for the strength and sacrifice of women, the transformation of birth, and the sacredness of new life. I’m a birth and postpartum doula, trained through DONA, and support families across the DFW metroplex with compassion, evidence-based knowledge, calm presence, and a deep trust in the process of labor. I am an English teacher of seven years and my husband and I have one son. My path to birth doula work began with my own birth experience; having a doula during my pregnancy was so helpful to me and made me feel much more knowledgeable and in control of my birth. Unfortunately, the birth of my son did not go as planned for many reasons: my doula could not attend my birth, I preeclampsia complications, and my son was in a breech position. Birth is a transformation, but it can also come with trauma. My experience compelled me to become a doula to hopefully help other women have better birth experiences than I did. I’m also passionate about postpartum care; in the time after giving birth, I felt vulnerable and, although I had endured a major physical and emotional event, I was not often the focus or concern. Even amidst so much joy and love for my son, people quickly begin asking about the baby and forget to ask about the new parent. I want to be the doula that I wish I could have had! The role of postpartum doula is to mother the mother, to educate and encourage new parents, and ensure the new family is thriving together. My love of caregiving and my passion of supporting other mothers is combined in the role of postpartum doula.

Julie Davidson

Hey there! My name is Julie Davidson and I am a professionally certified birth doula, chidlbirth educator, and virtual birth coach. I live in The Colony, TX with my son Elliot, my husband Dennis, and our giant dog Franklin. My love for birth was born during my pregnancy with Elliot. I was always totally scared of labor, but after hiring a doula and diving into my own education and research... my fear turned into faith. As I learned how beautiful pregnancy and birth can be + how different your experience can be if you are educated and informed + how much you really are in control of... it all became less scary. I knew pretty much immediately that I wanted to be a guide and support to other moms on this journey. I have worked dozens of families and seeing them welcome their baby into this world with strength and bravery NEVER gets old. I'd love to support you! Send me a DM, text or email and we'll hop on a free discovery call to see if we'd be a good fit :)

Julie stepped into our lives as an overnight postpartum doula during a stressful season of postpartum recovery. We had medical complications with the birth that required mom to be on modified bedrest and the timeline of healing was unknown. Julie handled the chaos of an unknown recovery and a newborn with grace and understanding. She ensured mom was able to get rest at night, all while keeping baby safe and assisting with light household chores. Julie was/is an essential part of postpartum recovery. We consider her like family.
