My approach to birth is rooted in compassion, cultural traditions, education, and the belief that birth is sacred. I understand that every pregnancy, every birth, and every mother’s journey is beautifully different. I bring both personal experience and professional training to create a nurturing, judgment-free space where families feel heard, respected, informed, and empowered. I incorporate traditional comfort practices alongside evidence-based education, creating a beautiful balance of modern birth support and ancestral wisdom. My Services Prenatal Support: Personalized birth preparation, education, birth preferences, emotional support, comfort techniques, and guidance to help you approach labor with confidence. Labor & Birth Support: Continuous emotional and physical support during labor, including breathing techniques, movement, positioning, rebozo techniques, relaxation, and advocacy for your birth preferences. I also provide guidance and reassurance for partners. Postpartum Care: Compassionate support as you recover and adjust to life with your baby. Services include newborn care education, breastfeeding and combination-feeding guidance, emotional wellness check-ins, nourishing homemade meals, and practical assistance. Cesarean & NICU Support: Gentle, individualized care for families navigating cesarean recovery, unexpected birth experiences, or a baby’s stay in the NICU. Pregnancy & Infant Loss Support: A safe, compassionate space for families experiencing loss, honoring their grief and supporting their healing journey without judgment or expectations. Holistic & Cultural Comfort: Rebozo techniques, guided relaxation, aromatherapy when appropriate, soothing music, and traditional postpartum nurturing practices. My Philosophy I believe every mother deserves to feel safe, supported, and celebrated, regardless of how her baby enters the world. Whether you’re preparing for your first baby or welcoming another little blessing, my role is to walk beside you, offering knowledge, encouragement, comfort, and a steady hand when you need it most. I’m Carmen, a Birth-Agnostic doula living in Arlington, TX with my husband and two amazing kiddos. Bringing more compassion, humanity, respect and nurturing to birth work in the U.S. has been a passion of mine since I first began my motherhood journey over ten years ago. Birth is an experience unlike any other in a birth giver’s life, culminating not only in the birth of a brand new life, but also a new version of the birth giver. During the sacred window leading up to the birth and continuing on through the postpartum period, it is crucial that all birth givers have the physical, mental and spiritual support they need to navigate this journey wholly— with confidence and without fear. This is my goal with Mama Nurture.

Being a first time mom and living away from family it was very important to have some support my first few weeks of being home with my newborn. As soon as I met Carmen I immediately knew she would be a good fit for my postpartum doula! She was friendly, welcoming, and supportive. During the night I felt comfortable and at ease with her taking care of our newborn and my husband and I getting much needed rest and our little one as well. Thank you Carmen for your support the first few weeks, don’t know what we would’ve done!

Hi, I’m Melanie Powell—certified doula, childbirth educator, author of From Fear to First Cry, and the founder of both Little Flower Birth Services and the non-profit Under His Wings Collective. As a mother myself, I know firsthand that bringing a child into the world is one of the most profound, transformative journeys you will ever take. But I also know it can bring up deep questions, past fears, and medical anxieties. That is why my life’s work is dedicated to walking beside women and their partners, ensuring you never have to navigate the medical landscape alone. Through Little Flower Birth Services, my practice is rooted in three core pillars: Advocacy to help your partner step into their role as your protector, Sanctuary to guard your peace with a protective "Baby Bubble," and Autonomy to honor your God-given intuition through a trauma-informed framework. Whether I'm teaching evidence-based physiological birth classes, coaching partners in our signature advocacy workshops, or offering quiet, steadfast support in the delivery room, my goal is to transform your anxieties into your greatest strengths. Beyond my private practice, my heart for community led me to establish Under His Wings Collective—a non-profit initiative dedicated to expanding access to sliding-scale and free childbirth education, alongside trauma-informed virtual doula support (such as our Virtual Bloom Package) for Medicaid-eligible, low-income, and high-anxiety mothers who deserve dedicated care regardless of circumstance. When I’m not supporting families across the DFW Metroplex, leading virtual education cohorts, or advocating through the collective, you can usually find me baking something nourishing for loved ones or cherishing quiet moments with my daughter. You deserve to enter your birth room feeling strong, informed, and deeply supported. I would be honored to walk this sacred journey with you.

What made us choose Melanie as our birth doula for our first birth experience was the fact that she was Catholic and she offered a lot in her birth package. She was extremely helpful all throughout my pregnancy, especially on the day of my delivery. She helped us map out a birth plan and she did a great job educating us. During my labor, Melanie coached me through exercises she prepped us with to deal with the contractions. After I got my epidural, I was still experiencing pain on my right side. Melanie spent hours lightly shaking the area to get my daughter to move. It really helped me deal with the pain. She also helped the nurse with getting my daughter to turn face down to prepare for birth. Melanie offered me the comfort and support I needed in the last hours of my labor. Because of her support, my husband was able to get some extra sleep so he could be present with me and available post-birth. I would strongly recommend Melanie as a doula.

Jordan Towns

My name is Jordan Towns and I have served the role as an Emotional Support Coach/Companion for over two decades to women and men encountering a full range of life encounters. It was in Spring 2023 that my journey to become a Doula was initiated and what a journey indeed it has been. Marked by my strong ancestral roots and divine gifting coupled with an experience that allowed me to grow deeper in tune with my body as a woman and what it means to be empowered and supported in my connection to it, I moved to become a Birth Doula and completed my formal training with Doulas of North America International in the “Art of Labor Support.” Now I have the honor of providing continuous, culturally appropriate support, non-medical advice, and physical comfort coaching to women and their partners during pregnancy, the birth ceremony, and the adjustment period after. It is this support that is critical to counter systemic medical racism and socioeconomic barriers that families face. I am currently offering to women who would like to birth at home donation-based services.

Jordan was an absolute amazing support person. She listened to what my wants and needs were. Jordan was open and understanding of my wants and through conversations she recalled details I mentioned. She reassured me as I was going through the labor process and even made me feel extremely comfortable and confident. I honestly can’t say enough about her to describe how amazing she was and how smooth she made the process. Very professional and at the same time humble. I highly recommend her! 100/10

Riley Bandstra

I’m Riley, the doula behind Root and Vine. This work is my calling — rooted in a deep respect for the strength and sacrifice of women, the transformation of birth, and the sacredness of new life. I’m a birth and postpartum doula, trained through DONA, and support families across the DFW metroplex with compassion, evidence-based knowledge, calm presence, and a deep trust in the process of labor. I am an English teacher of seven years and my husband and I have one son. My path to birth doula work began with my own birth experience; having a doula during my pregnancy was so helpful to me and made me feel much more knowledgeable and in control of my birth. Unfortunately, the birth of my son did not go as planned for many reasons: my doula could not attend my birth, I preeclampsia complications, and my son was in a breech position. Birth is a transformation, but it can also come with trauma. My experience compelled me to become a doula to hopefully help other women have better birth experiences than I did. I’m also passionate about postpartum care; in the time after giving birth, I felt vulnerable and, although I had endured a major physical and emotional event, I was not often the focus or concern. Even amidst so much joy and love for my son, people quickly begin asking about the baby and forget to ask about the new parent. I want to be the doula that I wish I could have had! The role of postpartum doula is to mother the mother, to educate and encourage new parents, and ensure the new family is thriving together. My love of caregiving and my passion of supporting other mothers is combined in the role of postpartum doula.
