The cost of a midwife in La Crosse, WI can be influenced by several factors:

  • Type of Midwife

Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) who work in hospital settings may have different pricing than Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) who attend home births or birth center deliveries.

  • Birth Setting

Hospital births with a midwife typically cost less out-of-pocket when covered by insurance, while home births and birth center deliveries may have different fee structures.

  • Scope of Services

Many midwives offer comprehensive packages that include prenatal visits, labor and delivery support, and postpartum care, which can affect the overall cost.

  • Insurance Coverage

Wisconsin Medicaid covers certified nurse-midwife care for La Crosse residents. Federal Medicaid rules require this benefit nationwide, including CNM-led prenatal, birth, and postpartum services. Coverage for licensed or certified professional midwives at home or birth centers varies by Medicaid plan, and no midwives are listed within 60 miles of La Crosse. Private insurance coverage depends on the individual policy.

  • Experience and Specialization

Midwives with extensive experience, additional certifications, or specializations such as VBAC support or water birth may charge higher rates.

  • Geographic Location

Midwifery costs can vary based on the cost of living and demand for midwifery services in your specific area.

When considering hiring a midwife in La Crosse, WI, it's advisable to research and interview several midwives to find one who aligns with your birth plan, preferences, and budget. During consultations, you can discuss their specific services, insurance acceptance, and pricing structure to ensure you have a clear understanding of what is included and the associated costs.

Izabel Looney

5 years of experience
Packages from $1,150 · $40/hr

Moving to Wisconsin November 1, 2025. Izabel (she/her) is a birth doula trained through DONA International and a postpartum doula trained through CAPPA. She is in the final stages of completing her formal certifications for both. Izabel made her way into birth work in 2021 due to a strong desire to be with families at a monumental time and in 2024 added her transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) certifications to better support birthing parents who want more options around pain management. Supporting you and your family through something as special as birth makes her heart sing. She looks forward to supporting your family’s journey through pregnancy and throughout the postpartum period of time. In her free time she loves to hike and go white water kayaking and is an avid reader. Izabel expresses her creativity through crocheting, painting, and metalwork, and she loves cooking for others and sharing a love of food with those in her community.

If I could give more stars I would. She went above and beyond in all aspects. She gave me so much knowledge and power to have some control in my daughter’s birth, even when it felt like everything was out of control. I delivered my daughter early at 34 weeks, and our amazing doula drove back from out of state (over 10 hours) to make it to the birth. I went from panic to calm as she began giving more tools to aid in comfort and calming, she also was able to give my family support to better support me. I will recommend this doula again and again, I would’ve been a complete wreck without her and the empowerment she gave me. To this day, she’s sent Mother’s Day cards, checked in, and she’s really been such a blessing to us.

My overall experience with her was beyond amazing. From the very beginning, she made me feel truly heard, seen, and supported. She has such a calm and reassuring presence that gave me confidence through every step of my journey. On the rare occasions when she wasn’t able to answer right away, I’ll admit I felt a little defeated in the moment, but she never left me hanging she always made it a priority to call back or respond as soon as she could. Whenever I had questions, she took the time to answer them thoroughly, and if she didn’t have the exact answer, she made sure to guide me in the right direction so I felt secure and informed. What stood out the most was how intentional and caring she was. I never once felt like just another client she truly invested her time, energy, and heart into making sure I was supported. That kind of dedication is rare, and it meant so much to me during such an important chapter of my life. I’m deeply grateful for everything she did for me, and I would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone looking for a doula who goes above and beyond.

Nyamuoch Miak Birth & Postpartum Doula My name is Nyamuoch Miak, and I own Mama Seed Doula, LLC. I serve the Johnson County, Cedar Rapids, and William Burge area. I am married and blessed with four beautiful children. I have over ten years of experience working with children in school and childcare settings. I enjoy educating, supporting, connecting, and learning from parents and their newborns as they discover each other's needs and wants. I put birthing parents at the center of their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. I listen and provide the physical, emotional, and educational support parents need to navigate the transition into parenthood confidently. I aim to give birthing parents and their families my undivided attention and the knowledge they need to make informed decisions unique to them. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, teaching my native language to my children, crocheting, and volunteering at our local church. My husband and I share a happy, busy life with our family and friends, and I love sharing our Sudanese cuisine with everyone!

We were incredibly lucky to have Nyamuoch for six weeks of postpartum night visits, and I can confidently say we could not have gotten through that time without her. As a second-time parent, I knew how challenging the postpartum period could be, which made Nyamuoch’s ability to put me completely at ease from our very first conversation especially meaningful. While I initially wondered how it would feel having someone in our home at night, her calm, reassuring presence immediately made me feel safe and supported, and I trusted her completely with my son, which is something I do not say lightly. Because of her, I got the most restful and restorative sleep I had postpartum, knowing my son was being cared for with such attentiveness, gentleness, and skill. She has an extraordinary way with babies and seemed to instinctively know exactly what he needed. Beyond that, she is a true wealth of knowledge, always offering thoughtful guidance, reassurance, and practical tips. She was also consistently reliable, thoughtful, and deeply professional in every interaction. Her care didn’t just help at night. It allowed me to show up as a better, more present parent during the day for my toddler. The difference that made for our entire family truly cannot be overstated. What stood out most was how deeply she cared, not just for our baby but for me as well. Even during a vulnerable and emotional time, she brought so much warmth and lightness. We shared so many laughs, and I genuinely looked forward to every visit with her. Nyamuoch played a huge role in making our second postpartum experience beautiful. Our family is better for having had her during that time, and I am endlessly grateful for her. I could not recommend her more highly.

Jennifer was amazing and an essential part of my labor. I was becoming a new mom, and very nervous about what labor would bring. I was committed to an unmedicated labor and my goal was a water birth. With Jennifer by my side, I felt safe and secure despite the arduous task I was facing. My husband was there beside me, but he was as fearful as I was, if not more. Thankfully Jennifer knew how to keep me calm, but help me progress along. When my laboring slowed in the warm water, she had me exit the tub and got my husband involved with supporting my weight to sway back and forth in a squatting position and lower the baby into the birth canal. Jennifer knows how to manage various challenging circumstances that arise. My midwife was great, but I learned with a few labors that they are not very participatory throughout the labor. For this reason, having a doula in the process is extremely important, and Jennifer is well equipped to properly support a woman on her birthing journey.
