My love for birth started at a young age, but it wasn't until I birthed my daughter that I found my passion. I believe that everyone's pregnancy journey and birth story matters. I would describe myself as a dedicated and passionate birth and postpartum doula with a background in student midwifery and student nursing. With a calling in my heart from a young age, my journey began when I attended Washington Adventist University to study BS nursing in 2013. During my studies, I discovered a missionary school that offered a doula certificate program and Midwifery course, which sparked my interest and led me to pursue my true passion. Hi! I'm Jess. I've been a birth doula for over 2 years and have attended 30+ births. I came into this work having a doula myself and am lucky to call her my mentor. My approach is simple: I meet you where you are. I take the time to understand you and your family's priorities for your birth, and I offer as much (or as little!) education as you'd like. Sending along resources and recommendations tailored to what you need, when you need it. Getting ready together I offer a birth planning session where we walk through what to expect in early labor, once you arrive at your place of birth, and the options available to you during admission, pushing, newborn care, and the third stage. Depending on your desires, I can help advocate when something isn't standard practice, and I'll be right there watching for your preferences on the big day. I also offer an in-person prenatal session for you and your partner, where we go over comfort measures and gold-star labor positions (shoutout Spinning Babies!). As your due date gets closer, I help normalize and support those final weeks — encouraging rest, relaxation, and peace as you prepare to meet your baby. On the big day We're busy! I offer plenty of hands-on support — counter pressure, massage, and continued work on positions to help your baby descend. This is all with the support and collaboration of your care team which is important to create a calm, supportive envrionment. I deeply desire to care for your baby(ies), to help you and your mate, heal and rest, that you may gain strength and clarity of mind again! I can help the whole family nurture the new baby and deal with the new responsibilities. Parents may need more emotional care, as well, during this transition time. I am punctual, rarely ill, very alert and assisting your baby(ies) with feedings, diapers, temperature control, sleep conditioning - then sleep training, folding clothes and clothing changes as needed. As your Postpartum Doula, I will research and implement strategies, assist with shopping, laundry, dishes, etc. I will help you care for yourself and/or baby as well as let the mate and the siblings find their importance in the enlarged family! I use a daily journal, like Baby Connect, to journal food intake, bowel movements, growth, mood, and activities of baby and mom! I generally work overnights, but am willing to work days when possible. In my personal time, I like to read and proofread, go bowling, walking, swimming, and participate in Christian activities.
